Impact of public transit accessibility on real estate valuation on the example of Salzburg and its metropolitan area

    No full text
The accessibility of public transport is a crucial factor that influences the valuation of realestate properties. In particular, a well-connected transport system can increase thedesirability and convenience of a location, leading to higher property values. Conversely, alack of reliable transport options can deter potential buyers and renters, leading to lowerproperty values. Especially in urbanised areas, a lack of public transport is regarded asdetrimental to the overall quality of the location. Factors such as frequency, operating times, the mode of transport (bus, tram, metro, train), and distance to the nearest station can havea severe influence on the accessibility of real estate properties, such as residential housing aswell as commercial buildings. A measure for reachability using data from open public transportdata is created in order to feed the public transport reachability model. The model investigatesthe connection of primary and secondary centres with other more peripheral inhabited areasweighted by the significance of the centre. The impact of the public transport reachabilitymodel is estimated by regression models, specifically Automated Valuation Models (AVM), incombination with actual market values from real purchase contracts for the metropolitan areaof Salzburg.submitted by Stefan MirkovicLiteraturverzeichnis: Seite 39-42Masterarbeit Paris-Lodron-University of Salzburg 202

Crosscultural Studies of Religion and Theology / "Mother Earth's Breasts": Eco-feminist Theology and environmental Conservation

    No full text
Women have a vital role to play in environmental conservation. They naturally have the capacity and ability to preserve life as demonstrated by a breastfeeding mother who sustains the life of a child. In many cultures, the female breast is a potent symbol of beauty, motherhood and vitality. From a Christian perspective, God is likened to a caring and loving mother who protects her children even beyond the care of a nursing mother. The metaphor of ‘breasts’ will be used to refer to the nurturing role of Mother Earth to all Earth communities. The imagery is derived from the concept of femininity of the Earth as ‘Mother Earth’ symbolizing a woman’s efforts to protect all the Earth communities. Her efforts to preserve the Earth have been hindered by climate change caused by human beings through pollution, burning of fossil fuels, and deforestation among others. This has in turn resulted in extremely high temperatures, prolonged droughts, floods, food shortages, and mass extinction of animal and plant species. These impacts have negatively affected Mother Earth’s productivity and capability to sustain life. ‘Breasts’ must therefore be redeemed to ensure that they are not disfigured and that their fecundity is not impaired for purposes of sustaining future generations. The paper will utilize Ecofeminist Theology using content analysis methodology. The main thrust of this paper is that women’s participation and empowerment could be an inspiration to environmental conservation in Africa

STAR Protocols / "Protocol for the recombinant expression and purification of the LSAM Protocol for the recombinant expression and purification of the LSAM domain of human legumain in E. coli"

    No full text
Expressing disulfide-rich proteins in E. coli is challenging due to incorrect bondformation. Here, we present a protocol for expressing the PC1pro-LSAM fusionprotein in E. coli using the PC1 prodomain as a fusion tag and the legumain sta-bilization and activity modulation (LSAM) domain as a proof-of-concept targetthat was purified. We describe steps for characterizing the protein’s structuralintegrity through multiple biochemical and biophysical parameters like molecu-lar weight, melting temperature, and secondary structure content. This protocolenables efficient expression of disulfide-containing proteins previously incom-patible with bacterial systems

Spermidine, lipid droplets, and ageing : investigating organelle dynamics and proteostasis

    No full text
Spermidine is a caloric restriction mimetic which has a life-prolonging effect in yeast. Spermidine acts by activating autophagy. To find out whether lipid droplets also play a role in this process, replicative and chronological lifespans were performed. Therefore, the BY4741 and QM strain (without lipid droplets) were treated with spermidine to see if a life-prolonging effect occurs even without LDs. In addition, Rnq1 aggregates and lipid droplets were also stained to analyse whether they would change in number or size after adding spermidine. The chronological lifespan was also analysed in the BY4741 and the QM strain after adding resveratrol. In addition, the differences between different aggregates (Rnq1, Btn2 and Cmr1) in young and old cells were analysed in the BY4741 and QM. Here, too, the aim was to find out whether LDs are involved in the aggregation of proteins in older cells.Spermidine showed a prolonged chronological lifespan in the BY4741 with spermidine. In the QM strain, this life extension effect was absent. There was no difference in the replicative lifespan after spermidine addition, neither in the BY4741 nor in the QM strain. A higher number of lipid droplets could be detected 72h after addition of spermidine. Rnq1 aggregates did not increase in size or number. Resveratrol shows no prolonged chronological lifespan in the BY4741 and not in the QM. The protein aggregates (Rnq1 and Btn2) in the wild type showed more and larger protein aggregates in older cells. This did not occur in the QM strain. Spermidine's life-prolonging effect is lipid droplet dependent. Spermidine stimulates LD biosynthesis and leads to more LDs after 72h. Lipid droplets play a central role in the mode of action of spermidine. Likewise, protein aggregates in ageing are influenced by lipid droplets.submitted by Isabelle GuirschLiteraturverzeichnis: Seite 63-72Masterarbeit Paris-Lodron-University of Salzburg 202

tripleC - communication, capitalism & critique / Towards the Liberation from Capitalist Business Models: The De-capitalisation of Journalism and Communication Studies

    No full text
This paper introduces a perspective on media companies, journalism, and Communication Studies beyond capitalism. It starts from a critique of German Communication Studies that has neglected the critical, Marxian-inspired analysis of the relationship of the media and capitalism. The article introduces elements of a Critique of the Political Economy of the Media. It discusses foundations of the liberation of the media from capitalist business models. The author in this context introduces the notion of the decapitalisation of the media, the rollback and abolition of the logic of capital in the media economy and society. He shows what role decapitalisation could play in journalism, communication studies, and academic publishing

Ignoranz ade! : mit Selbstaffirmationen zu mehr Wissen

    No full text
