The Relationship Between Social Media Use, Internet Use, and Frequency of Pornography Habits
The purpose of this correlational study is to determine whether or not there is a relationship between the amount of time spent on the internet or social media sites and the frequency of pornography habits, and if gender has an effect on frequency of pornography habits. Participants were a convenience sample of 105 men and women between ages 18-24 among two universities in the Southeastern United States. Each participant completed a survey to determine time spent on internet sites, time spent on social media, and the frequency of pornography habits. An analysis of our results showed that there is not a significant relationship between internet use and frequency of pornography habits. Our results indicated no significant relationship between social media use and frequency of pornography habits. Our results did suggest, however, that gender does have a significant effect on frequency of pornography habits
Elucidating the Interactions between Melatonin, Indole-3-Acetic Acid, and Gibberellin in _Arabidopsis thaliana_ Development through Gene Expression Analysis
Several phytohormones regulate Arabidopsis germination, including abscisic acid (ABA), gibberellin (GA), indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) and melatonin (MT). These phytohormones contribute to efficient, timely germination, which allows for optimal crop yield. To examine the effect of MT on Arabidopsis germination, a germination assay was conducted with wild-type and auxin-deficient seeds. Percent germination was decreased in wild-type and increased in auxin-deficient seeds with MT treatment. To examine genetic interactions between IAA, GA, and MT during germination, RNA was isolated from wild-type and auxin-deficient seeds that were treated with IAA or MT. Transcriptional analysis was conducted with quantitative PCR to observe how treatment with different hormones affected MT, ABA, and GA biosynthesis and regulatory gene expression in both wild-type and auxin-deficient seeds. MT biosynthesis gene expression was higher in auxin-deficient seedlings compared to wild type, but was decreased in both groups when treated with IAA. GA biosynthesis and ABA regulatory gene expression was decreased in wild-type and auxin-deficient seeds treated with MT. This work demonstrates diverse roles for MT in Arabidopsis germination, including a possible compensatory role for MT in the auxin-deficient mutant. Future transcriptional analyses may provide further insight about the interactions between ABA, GA, IAA, and MT and how these hormones coordinately function during plant development. Knowledge of these interactions will be useful in general plant research as well as agricultural research
The Mitre and Crown: The Relationship Between the Church and Crown in Norman-Angevin England, 1066-1215
From the Norman invasion in 1066 to Magna Carta in 1215, the balance of power between the Mitre and the Crown in Norman- Angevin England shifted from being defined through personal relationships to being defined by charters. This shift occurred due to a cycle of conflict and cooperation between Church and Crown, and during the periods of peace, kings, archbishops, and popes created models that delineated boundaries of power between the Church and the Crown. Over a century and a half, four functioning models emerged: the Crown-led Personal model created by William the Conqueror and Archbishop Lanfranc from 1066-1089, the Cooperation model created by Henry I, Archbishop Anselm, and Pope Paschal II from 1107 to 1135, the Revised Clarendon model created by Henry II and Pope Alexander II in the wake of Archbishop Thomas Becket’s assassination, and the Constitutional model created by Archbishop Lanfranc and imposed upon John in 1215. Each successive model moved away from personal relationships and toward defining the delineation of power through charters
