RAYMOND L. MUNCY SCHOLARSHIP 
 
An Academic Scholarship for Undergraduate Students of History 
 
The Raymond L. Muncy Scholarship is a one-time financial award for those 
undergraduate students at Harding University majoring in History who 
demonstrate exceptional scholarship, research, and Christian character.  The 
scholarship was created to honor the late Raymond L. Muncy, Chairman of the 
Department of History and Social Sciences from 1965-1993.  His teaching, 
mentoring, and scholarship modeled the best in Christian education.  Applied 
toward tuition, the award is granted over the span of a single academic year.  
The award is presented annually at the Department of History and Political 
Science Banquet. 
 
 
 
 
For the 2025-2026 year, the recipients of the Muncy scholarship are Brantley 
Anderson & David Granberg.

FACULTY SPOTLIGHT: DR. SHAWN FISHER

 Dr. Shawn Fisher grew up in Searcy, Arkansas. He graduated 
from Searcy High School in 1990 and joined the 39th Infantry Brigade of 
the Arkansas Army National Guard at age 17, serving from 1989-1992. 
He received his undergraduate degree in 1997, and his master’s degree in 
Secondary Education and History in 2006, both from Harding 
University. Dr. Fisher obtained his Ph.D. in History from the University 
of Memphis in 2013, and for his dissertation he received the James L. 
Foster and Billy W. Beason Award for best dissertation in Arkansas. Dr. 
Fisher has taught high school history and English, served as faculty at 
Arkansas State University-Heber Springs, and worked in user education 
and technical writing for the Acxiom Corporation. He has taught every 
age from fourth grade to graduate school. Dr. Fisher has published 
several non- academic books detailing technology and military history. 
He has contributed to the Arkansas Historical Quarterly and the 
Encyclopedia of Modern Middle East Wars: A Social, Political, and 
Military History. Recently, Dr. Fisher wrote a chapter in the book The 
War Home: Perspectives on the Arkansas Experience during World War

I, University of Arkansas Press, 2020. Dr. Fisher has several academic 
books detailing military history and operations awaiting publication, 
including The Battle of Little Rock from the University of Arkansas 
Press.   
Dr. Fisher worked as a Lieutenant for Harding Public Safety 
from 2001-2004. He was an instructor for Harding’s upward Bound 
program from 2000-2008. In 2010, he became an Associate Professor of 
History. From 2021-2024, Dr. Fisher served as Chair of the Department 
of History and Political Science. Dr. Fisher accepted a position in the 
U.S Secret Service in late 2024. He now works as the chief historian for 
the U.S Army Military Police Corps at Ft. Leonard Wood in Missouri. 
He also serves on the Arkansas History Commission.  
Dr. Fisher enjoys military wargaming and blacksmithing. The 
first history book he ever read was Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo. He grew 
up riding and breaking horses with his father Ronnie Fisher, a nationally 
renowned horseman. Dr. Fisher has many fond memories from his time 
at Harding. As a student, he was baptized at Harding, noting that “While 
Harding was a place that broadened my mind and sharpened my skills as 
a researcher and historian, it was also the place I found God.” Dr. Fisher 
met his wife while attending Harding, Dr. Jennifer Fisher, who now 
teaches in the Universities’ speech pathology department. Their two 
daughters both attend Harding. As faculty, Dr. Fisher helped develop and 
lead Harding’s ROTC program. In 2017, he taught at HUF with his wife 
and children. Other memoires include the time he took his students to 
Normandy, France to visit WWII battlefield sites in the spring of 2023. 
Dr. Fisher provided valuable insight and mentorship to thousands of 
students while at Harding, and he continues to be an excellent example 
of Christian character.
