1/16/2019: Transfer Credit in Minors
A minor is an area of concentrated study outside of the major area of study. A minor requires a minimum of four classes (16 credits) in a directed area of study. Minors may require coursework beyond the minimum 161 credits required for completion of the major. Coursework taken outside of Kettering University is not transferable towards a minor. Minors are not required for graduation though a student may elect to pursue a minor in an area of additional interest. Minors appear on a student’s transcript at student declaration, and requirements must be completed at the time of graduation. Refer to the “Minors” section of this catalog for a complete list of minors and their requirements
How Faculty Advisers and Counselors View their Role in the SWE Organization
Faculty advisors and counselors play an important role in establishing and sustaining a successful Society of Women Engineers (SWE) student section. Currently, most SWE collegiate sections have both faculty advisors and counselors. A faculty advisor, who is required for student organizations in most universities, serves as the liaison between the SWE section and the university and is responsible for knowing the university’s policies. A faculty advisor helps the student section access university resources and ensures the section is meeting all university requirements. A counselor is required by SWE for a collegiate section to remain in “good standing” and serves as the liaison between the SWE section and other SWE professional members and the industry [1]. The relationship between collegiate sections and their faculty advisors and counselors is different at every university. This paper examines the role of faculty advisors and counselors in SWE collegiate sections. The objective of this study is to determine how faculty advisors and counselors act as liaisons between the SWE sections and their respective universities and local industries to better serve female students. A survey about how SWE faculty advisors and counselors for collegiate sections view their role in the organization was conducted. A total of 76 faculty advisors and counselors responded to the survey. The data were analyzed and our findings show faculty advisors and counselors play an important role in providing continuity to the section, participation in and understanding of the larger organization, and in mentoring students on both general leadership and SWE leadership. The data also show that there is a correlation between the size of the section and the level of involvement of the faculty advisor/counselors. Larger sections have more involvement from both faculty advisors and counselors. Some respondents, who identified themselves as advisors for multiple student organizations, feel that their advising roles are similar. Therefore, the findings represented in this study can be generalized to other student organizations as well
2/13/2019: Course Change Form MECH 430
MECH 430 is currently a four (4) credit hour course with five (5) contact hours: three (3) lecture and two (2) lab. Currently, the grading for the lab is integrated in the overall course grade. The course will be separated into one, three (3) credit hour lecture course (3 contact hours), MECH 430, and one, one (1) credit hour lab course (two contact hours), MECH431. This arrangement falls in line with the model set in other programs such as Physics (i.e. PHYS 114 and 115). If workload is assessed by credit hour, this change will need to occur to better define the workload associated with this course
8/21/2019: Course Change Form - General MBA Concentration
Alter the courses available for the General MBA Concentration to enable MS Lean students to add MBA as second degree. Due to recent UCC and Senate approvals two (2) courses are now shared between MSLM and MBA; however, some certificates currently available share the same courses with the core courses of the MBA. Therefore, it was necessary to create a general MBA to allow these students to get the second degree with five (5) courses.

12/11/2019: Course Change Form IME 663
This course addition supports the MSE program and fits into the 4xx/6xx paradigm used across the university. In addition to the coursework undergraduates must complete, graduate students will be required to research, investigate, analyze and present to the class the current safety strategy and policy trends in the general area of a new technology disruption. This can include how new mobility systems will impact users and how engineers and policy makers will approach safety for these systems in the future
1/23/2019: Course Change Form MGMT 313
The change in this course brings a Marketing Research focus to the degree program. This focus represents a good addition to the design thinking focus in other programs, and will provide Management majors with greater analytical skills in a Marketing context
