2/6/2019: Course Change Form MECH 330
MECH 330 is currently a four (4) credit hour course with five (5) contact hours: three (3) lecture and two (2) lab. Currently, the grading for the lab is integrated in the overall course grade. The course will be separated into one, three (3) credit hour lecture course (3 contact hours), MECH 330, and one, one (1) credit hour lab course (two contact hours), MECH331. This arrangement falls in line with the model set in other programs such as Physics (i.e. PHYS 114 and 115). If workload is assessed by credit hour, this change will need to occur to better define the workload associated with this course
1/16/2019: Course Change Form MGMT 310
Designates this course as a Management course and renumbers for revised course sequencing. This change brings enhanced project management skills earlier in the curriculum, which should support capstone and thesis projects
Effective degradation of sulfide ions and organic sulfides in cavitation-based Advanced Oxidation Processes (AOPs)
The paper presents the results of investigations on the effectiveness and reaction rate constants of the oxidation of sulfide ions and organic sulfides in real industrial effluents from the production of bitumens (2000 mg S2− L−1) using hydrodynamic and acoustic cavitation. The content of the effluents was analysed in terms carbon disulfide, dimethyl sulfide, and di-tert-butyl disulfide concentration. A possibility of complete oxidation of sulfides by cavitation alone as well as by its combination with external oxidants such as hydrogen peroxide, ozone or peroxone was demonstrated. The oxidation time for the most effective processes is as little as 15 min. Due to the presence of sulfide ions, the effluents from the production of bitumens were oxidized at a strongly alkaline pH. The results of this study reveal the advantage of performing advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) at a basic pH. The effective degradation of sulfide ions enables performance of further degradation of organic contaminants at an acidic pH, ensuring high efficiency of treatment based, for example, on the Fenton reaction without the risk of release of hydrogen sulfide to the atmosphere. The results of this research are applicable to all kinds of caustic effluents for which the lack of possibility of pH adjustment limits their efficient treatment
Dynamic Analysis of Vehicle Performance for Changes to Rear Axle Housing
This paper explores the performance improvements of a 2013 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 resulting from changes to the rear axle housing. In previous work, described in [1, 2], the rear axle housing was optimized in order to minimize its weight. It was expected that the decrease in weight would lead to improved fuel economy; in this work, the vehicle was simulated for the EPA highway drive cycle (HWFET) both before and after the optimization of the housing, in order to quantify the changes in fuel economy. It was found that the optimization of the housing did produce a modest improvement in the chassis energy demand and in the fuel energy demand
8/28/2019: Course Change Form MECH 544
Kettering University is eliminating 500 course numbers due to HLC concerns about our 500 level courses. Since our 500 level courses are defined as mezzanine they are not considered to be graduate courses by HLC. This puts a limit on how many 500 level courses a graduate student can take in the graduate program. According to HLC they cannot take more than five 500 courses. The Course Number is being changed to MECH-444
2/13/2019: Program Change Form EE Minor
Revisions to the required courses for the Electrical Engineering Minor.
Add ECE-101 or CS-101 and EE-336, remove EE-240. Change to “Select two additional courses that have an EE prefix or a CE prefix (except for EE-212)
12/11/2019: Course Change Form IME 672
This course addition supports MSE programs and fits into the 4xx/6xx paradigm used across the university. In addition to the coursework undergraduates must complete, graduate students are expected to complete a detailed analysis & report writing of of a model dealing with reliability & maintainability
