Application of zinc oxide nanoflowersin environmental and biomedical science
Zinc oxide (ZnO) nanostructures can be synthesized in nanoforms of spheres, rods, flowers,disks, walls, etc., among which nanoflowershave gained special attention due to their versatile biomedical and pollutant remedial applications in waste water and air. ZnO nanoflowershave an ultrasmall size with a huge surface area to volume ratio due to their hexagonal petal structures which render them superior compared to the nanoparticles of other shapes. The ZnO nanoflowershave bandgap energy equivalent to a semiconductor that makes them have unique photophysical properties. We have used the appropriate keywords in Google Scholar and PubMed to obtain the recent publications related to our topic. We have selected the relevant papers and utilized them to write this review. The different methods of synthesis of ZnO nanoflowersare chemical vapor deposition, facile hydro- thermal, thermal evaporation, chemical reduction, bio route of synthesis, and solvothermal method, etc. which are mentioned in this review. ZnO nanoparticles are used in paints, cosmetics, and other products due to their high photocatalytic activity. The different applications of ZnO nanoflowersin the diagnosis of disease bio- markers, biosensors, catalysts, and the therapeutic process along with wastewater remediation and gas sensing applications will be discussed in this review
qPCR screening for Yersinia ruckeri clonal complex 1 against a background of putatively avirulent strains in Norwegian aquaculture
Although a number of genetically diverse Yersinia ruckeri strains are present in
Norwegian aquaculture environments, most if not all outbreaks of yersiniosis in
Atlantic salmon in Norway are associated with a single specific genetic lineage of serotype
O1, termed clonal complex 1. To investigate the presence and spread of virulent
and putatively avirulent strains in Norwegian salmon farms, PCR assays specific
for Y. ruckeri (species level) and Y. ruckeri clonal complex 1 were developed. Following
extensive screening of water and biofilm, the widespread prevalence of putatively
avirulent Y. ruckeri strains was confirmed in freshwater salmon hatcheries, while Y.
ruckeri clonal complex 1 was found in fewer farms. The formalin-killed
bacterin yersiniosis
vaccine was detected in environmental samples by both PCR assays for several
weeks post-vaccination.
It is thus important to interpret results from recently vaccinated
fish with great care. Moreover, field studies and laboratory trials confirmed that
stressful management procedures may result in increased shedding of Y. ruckeri by
sub-clinically
infected fish. Analysis of sea water sampled throughout thermal delousing
procedures proved effective for detection of Y. ruckeri in sub-clinically
infected
populations
After the collapse: Evaluating undone science in the wake of a global environmental crisis
This study deepens our understanding of environmental knowledge production under varying political-economic regimes. While the extant scholarship on undone science, that is the systemic non-production of knowledge, is largely based in liberal democracies in the US and Europe, it elides important differences in the making and unmaking of science elsewhere. Using the case of Peru?s left-leaning military dictatorship (1968?1980), I show how undone science contributed to the 1973 collapse of the world?s largest fisheryand one of the most studied fisherieson the planet: the anchoveta (Engraulis ringens). In an effort to reconstruct the fisheryand resolve un- done science, I also demonstrate how the state collapsed established boundaries by brokering research between previously antagonistic scientificfieldsand enabling South-South coalitions across Latin America. The evidence presented here illustrates how, during times of crisis, states can nationalize fisheriesscience, meaning they promote novel scholarship from domestic data sources, among local scientists, and between endemic research institutions. Thus, the main drivers of epistemic change, in this case, are state actors exercising ?conventional? practices, undermining the assumption that only bottom-up and ?contentious? pressure can do so. This research offers important lessons for future research on state-science relations in the Global South
