SHELLEY, BLAKE, AND COLERIDGE WALK INTO A CHURCH: ALTERNATIVE VISIONS OF DIVINITY IN THE ROMANTIC SUBLIME
Preface and Acknowledgements
There is a particular sensation that occurs in my brain when I study Romantic literature. It’s not the only thing that induces the sensation, but it is one of the most reliable. I was thirteen years old the first time I read Samuel Taylor Coleridge’s “Kubla Khan” and felt like someone had poured a carbonated, caffeinated soda directly into my mind. It is a sensation of vitality and presence, and awake-ness that both grounds me and encourages me to fly. So I suppose I must begin my acknowledgements with gratitude for Lyrical Ballads, for the engineers of the British Romantic Movement, and for the poetry of Percy Bysshe Shelley, William Blake, and Samuel Taylor Coleridge for making my brain effervescent and shaping my worldview, spirituality, and scholarship.
I would additionally like to thank my friends and family for listening to my endless screaming, whining, obsessing, and enthusing, and for their endless patience and support of my work and wellbeing. Writing this thesis during COVID-19 has been one of the most challenging experiences of my life, but thanks to my loved ones’ encouragement and solidarity, it has also been among the most rewarding.
Finally, thank you to Drs. Bruhn and McGill, my amazing advisor and reader, for their invaluable insight, guidance, and expertise, for their poignant questions and thoughtful engagement, and for their patience for sleep-deprived emails at six o’clock in the morning.
My deepest gratitude and regards to everyone who has been with me on this

Improving Self-Efficacy and Nursing Knowledge in Cardiac Step-Down Unit Nurses
Improving Self-Efficacy and Nursing Knowledge in Cardiac Step-Down Unit Nurses
Abstract
The Cardiac Step-Down Unit (CSDU) is a fast-paced, high-acuity patient unit that consists of patients with a variety of complex medical issues. Many nurses working on this CSDU have worked as a nurse for three years or less, many being new graduates. Each CSDU patient has multiple nursing needs, some of which the nurses have not received additional education or training. This can lead to stress and frustration on the part of the nurse, and less than optimal care for the patient. The purpose of this quality improvement (QI) initiative was to explore the effect of an evidence-based cardiac education program on the nurses’ level of self-efficacy and cardiac nursing knowledge. A one-group, pre- and post-test design with a convenience sample was performed using the General Self-Efficacy Scale (GSE) and test questions based on the American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN) progressive care certification exam. The independent variable was the evidence-based cardiac education program presented, and the dependent variable was the CSDU nurses’ level of self-efficacy and nursing knowledge. The data was analyzed to determine if a correlation existed between the intervention and the dependent variables. In the paired samples t-test for self-efficacy, the pre- and post-test results were statistically significant (t= -11.640, p=.000), and for nursing knowledge (t= -15.285, p=.000), also significant, showing an increase in both self-efficacy and nursing knowledge after the education program. As patient care continues to increase in complexity, nurses need to meet the ongoing challenges that go along with it. While this project demonstrated an increase in self-efficacy and nursing knowledge in these nurses, additional research is needed to determine the most effective educational interventions for nurses in various clinical settings.

TeamSTEPPS In A Pediatric Operating Room
Despite numerous patient safety and quality programs available and in use in the healthcare environment, adverse events in operating rooms continue to occur. The operating room is a complex and chaotic environment where teamwork is necessary for safe patient care. Team training is a strategy that improves teamwork. TeamSTEPPS is an evidence-based team training program designed to integrate teamwork into clinical practice. This project aims to determine if TeamSTEPPS communication tools and strategies improve the perception of teamwork and efficiency in a pediatric operating room. The outcome objectives for this project are to increase the perception of teamwork and improve efficiencies in a pediatric operating room by using the TeamSTEPPS program. The project design is a quality improvement project using convenience sampling from a voluntary group of multidisciplinary team members. Pre and post-intervention data were obtained using the TeamSTEPPS, T-TPQ tool. Efficiency data were obtained from electronic medical records. Statistically significant results were demonstrated in two teamwork domains; Leadership and Situation Monitoring. The mean difference in efficiencies demonstrated that there was no improvement in efficiency metrics after the implementation of TeamSTEPPS. Implications for practice include the need for continued team training, a plan for sustainability of TeamSTEPPS concepts, and a plan to address team dynamics when unexpected stress or change is introduced into the work environment
Care for Our Common Home in Jesuit Higher Education: A Study of the School of Environmental Sustainability at Loyola University Chicago
Environmental sustainability has become a critical issue for Catholic commitment to the common good in the twenty-first century. Both the Vatican and the Society of Jesus have spoken with urgency concerning the great educational challenges of forming new convictions and lifestyles in this regard. This paper chronicles the development of environmental sustainability initiatives at Loyola University Chicago within the context of institutional reforms from 2001 to the present. A consideration of these initiatives and environmental sustainability as both a set of operational and academic practices is undertaken with respect to social ethics in Catholic Jesuit higher education from the perspective of the relationality-responsibility model of Catholic moral theologian Charles E. Curran

Understanding the Role of Art Programming in Mitigating Social Exclusion as Experienced by People Experiencing Poverty
Inspired by her own work in the art programs in Denver’s own The Gathering Place, the author explores the role that art programs play in the lives of people experiencing poverty. This interdisciplinary thesis challenges our traditional notions of poverty-alleviation services that would construe art programming as a misappropriation of limited resources. The author explores social isolation and social exclusion in the lives of people experiencing poverty through the broad framework of intersectionality. Art programming is offered as one potential way we could navigate intersectional concerns of exclusion, and this programming is explored through the framework of Relational-Cultural Theory. Art Programming offers to people experiencing poverty social connection, which enables financial independence, close bonds with other participants, individual rehabilitation, and the chance to be integrated and make an impact on the broader community. For these reasons, Art programs can be a powerful tool in changing the lives of people experiencing poverty
The ‘entourage effect’ or ‘hodge-podge hashish’: the questionable rebranding, marketing, and expectations of cannabis polypharmacy
Introduction: The concept of a cannabis ‘entourage effect’ was first coined as a hypothetical afterthought in 1998. Since then, multiple scientific reviews, lay articles, and marketing campaigns have promoted the effect as a wholly beneficial manifestation of polypharmacy expected to modulate the therapeutic effects of cannabis and its derivatives. There is reason to wonder at the authenticity of such claims. Areas covered: A broad definition of the entourage effect is presented, followed by brief summaries of the nature of cannabis polypharmacy and the commonly cited contributing phytochemicals, with special attention to their attendant adverse effects. A critical analysis is then offered of the primary literature that is often portrayed as suggestive of the effect in existing reviews, with further studies being drawn from PubMed and Google Scholar searches. A final discussion questions the therapeutic value of the entourage effect and offers alternate perspectives on how it might be better interpreted. Expert opinion: Claims of a cannabis entourage effect invoke ill-defined and unsubstantiated pharmacological activities which are commonly leveraged toward the popularization and sale of ostensible therapeutic products. Overestimation of such claims in the scientific and lay literature has fostered their misrepresentation and abuse by a poorly regulated industry
A study on the effect of ethical leadership on teachers’ moral motivation at schools in Pakistan
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the influence of ethical leadership on moral motivation of teachers in the schools of Pakistan. Design/methodology/approach: Scenario-based experimental design was used to collect data (N = 174 teachers) from 25 schools in the city of Islamabad. Participants included 156 females and 18 males aged 23–37 years. Ethical leadership was measured at both construct and component levels (moral person and moral manager). Findings: The results found that the moral person component of ethical leadership style heightens the moral identity (internalization)-based moral motivation, while the moral manager component and ethical leadership at construct level style increases moral identity (symbolization)-based moral motivation. Interestingly, in the absence of reward, only the moral person component of ethical leadership style maintained participants’ moral motivation. Originality/value: The originality of this study lies in highlighting the divergence in ethical leadership style at component level that explains the differences in moral motivation of the teachers
Loading rates in unilateral transfemoral amputees with running-specific prostheses across a range of speeds
Background: Understanding the potential risks of running-related injuries in unilateral transfemoral amputees contributes to the development and implementation of the injury prevention programme in running gait rehabilitation. We investigated the vertical ground reaction force loading in unilateral transfemoral amputees who used running-specific prostheses across a range of running speeds. Methods: Ten unilateral transfemoral amputees and ten non-amputees performed running trials on an instrumented treadmill at the incremental speeds of 30, 40, 50, and 60% of their maximum acquired speeds. Per-step and cumulative vertical instantaneous loading rates were calculated from the vertical ground reaction force in the affected, unaffected, and non-amputated control limbs. Findings: Both the per-step and cumulative vertical instantaneous loading rates of the unaffected limbs in runners with unilateral transfemoral amputation were significantly greater than the affected and non-amputated control limbs at all speeds. Interpretation: The results of the present study suggest that runners with unilateral transfemoral amputation may be exposed to a greater risk of running-related injuries in their unaffected limbs compared to the affected and non-amputated control limbs
