    The aim of this essay is to illustrate the use of electrical and electromagnetic geophysical methods for glaciological purposes; electrical resistivity tomography (ERT) and electromagnetic method in frequency domain (FDEM) have been used to characterize the active layer of permafrost on three different rock glaciers sites in the Eastern Alps. Measures were carried out on the rock glaciers sites of Hintergrat and Murfreit, both in Alto Adige, belonging to the Ortles-Cevedale Group and the Sella Group, and on the Piz Boé rock glacier, which is also located on the Sella Group (Veneto side). The geoelectric data collected in the field have been first processed and then reversed through the ProfileR software. The use of the graphical interpolation program Surfer has finally made possible the creation of images representing sections of resistivity to which apply a geological interpretation. Data obtained from electro-magnetic measurements were not reversed, filtering the signal was enough to remove the values without any physical significance and, successively, interpret the images related to sections of apparent conductivity, once again obtained with the Surfer software. Moreover, the images obtained by the two methods have been compared each other with the aim of identifying common points and assessing if the two techniques can actually provide similar results. What emerged at the end of this study is the fact that the two geophysical methods, although presenting a different resolution, were sufficiently comparable. Geoelectric measurements show the advantage of better resolution and depth of investigation but their logistics limitation makes it difficult to perform numerous measurements in a short time. The FDEM method, on the other hand, allows to acquire many lines in a short time, while maintaining the disadvantage of the lower depth of investigation and the lower resolution, but the latter is still sufficient to identify the active layer of permafrost or identify points of particular interest on which further detailed research can subsequently be carried out, and can therefore be used either alone or in support of ERT

    Cross-correlation of the Astrophysical Stochastic Gravitational Wave Background with the Cosmic Microwave Background.

    : The detection of a Stochastic Gravitational-Wave Background (SGWB) is one of the main goals of present and future GW observatories (e.g. LISA, Einstein Telescope). The GW background presents two contributions, one of cosmological origin and another of astrophysical origin. The former (CGWB) is generated by many different sources in the primordial universe, among which it is worth to mention the quantum vacuum fluctuations during inflation or post inflation mechanisms. The latter (AGWB), that is at the basis of this work, results from the superposition of a large number of unresolved sources among which there are short emission events, e.g. merging binary sources and SNe explosions, and continuous events, e.g. inspiralling binary sources. These events result to be too faint to be individually detected and trace the largescale structure of our Universe. This astrophysical background contains valuable information on the astrophysical objects and on the cosmological evolution of the Universe and it can be used to constrain cosmological models, but also has a crucial role in the search for a gravitational waves background of cosmological origin that, as known, will give important information on the primordial universe. This background is typically described by the GW energy density GW that beyond its isotropic part, which contains important information on the astrophysical source, exhibits also a directional dependence connected both to the production mechanism and to the propagation through the inhomogeneities of the matter distribution in the Universe. Aim of this thesis is to develop tools necessary to characterise the AGWB and to understand to which extent it can be used in correlation with other cosmological probes to extract information about our inhomogeneous Universe. In previous works they have been analysed the crosscorrelations of this background with lensing and galaxy distribution that are important both to test General Relativity and estimate cosmological parameters but also to have a more profound understanding of the distribution of GW sources. In particular, in this thesis I will focus on the evaluation of the cross-correlations of the AGWB with the Cosmic Microwave Background, focusing on large scales effects
