Analysis and modelling of bursty human behaviour : a stochastic priority-queuing approach

    No full text
The objective of this thesis is the analysis and modelling of the regular statistical patterns emerging in human dynamics. In particular, the work focuses on individuals’ empirical response and waiting times and how they relate to inter-event times, within the context of a large-scale email network. Statistical analysis reveals that both response and waiting times obey a power-law distribution with an exponent similar for all agents when time is clocked through individual “proper times”, measuring activity. We present some priority-queuing models and provide both analytical and numerical results to show that similar reported patterns in written correspondence might be explained within the framework of prioritization and human decision-making processes
