Italian Consumers’ Reaction to Corporate Storytelling During the Global Pandemic:a Qualitative Study
Credit Crises and large portfolio Losses
We consider a network of firms linked by business relationships and a
financial institution holding a large portfolio with positions issued by
the firms. As the firms are linked among each others, a financial distress in one of these firms can spread to the others causing the so called credit contagion effect, the propagation of economic distress from
one firm or sovereign government to another. We explain the idea of credit crisis, how this phenomenon depends on our model parameters and the consequences that the clustering of defaults have on the portfolio hold by a bank with positions issued by the firms. We estimate the fluctuation of aggregate credit losses for a bank holding large portfolios of financial positions through mathematical approaches and numerical simulations and we show some possible intuitions about the consistency of our model with real market data

Reliable IEEE 802.15.4g based smart utility networks via adaptive modulation selection and re-transmission shaping
In this thesis work, we propose and evaluate a strategy to
improve transmission in IEEE 802.15.4g SUN networks. This kind of network is at the basis of many promising IoT applications that require high reliability while maintaining low power consumption. The proposed strategy consists of two distinct parts: re-transmission shaping and modulation selection. The re-transmission shaping mechanism keeps track of unused packet re-transmissions and allocates additional re-transmissions when the instantaneous link quality decreases due to channel impairments. The modulation selection strategies apply Multi-Armed Bandits algorithms to dynamically choose the best transmission modulation. The combined effect of these two mechanisms aims to maximize link reliability while minimizing energy consumption and meeting radio-frequency regulation constraints. To evaluate the proposed methods we use trace-based simulations using an IEEE 802.15.4g SUN data-set and two widely used metrics, the PDR (Packet Delivery Ratio) and the RNP (Required Number of Packets). The obtained results show that re-transmission shaping and modulation selection are useful mechanisms to improve link reliability of low-power wireless communications. Their combined use can increase PDR from 77.9% to 98.7% while sustaining an RNP of 1.7 re-transmissions per packet when compared to using a single re-transmission per packet

Didattica della Astrofisica con un approccio innovativo: un caso studio di game-based learning.
Il game-based learning una disciplina che utilizza il gioco
come strumento didattico. Lo scopo di questa tesi analizzare, da un
punto di vista sia scientifico sia pedagogico, una delle attività
sviluppate in quest'ambito dall'Istituto Nazionale di Astrofisica, il
gioco 'Viva la risoluzione!', che si pone l'obiettivo di far
sperimentare il concetto di risoluzione delle immagini digitali.
Inoltre viene presentata una scheda che possa fungere da valutazione
per le attività didattiche che utilizzano il gioco come strumento.
