    Get PDF
Incidentally found liver lesions sometimes leads professionals to consider performing excessive invasive procedures. Allergy to cow’s milk protein has a wide spectrum of clinical manifestations, predominantly the involvement of the digestive tract, and the association with liver lesions has been described. We describe a patient who presented a series of lesions that were initially interpreted as Von Meyenburg complexes with eventual spontaneous resolution of the lesions

The spotback skate Atlantoraja castelnaui (Arhynchobatidae) is a large and threatened skate species subjected to fishing pressure, endemic to the Southwest Atlantic that occurs from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to San Jorge Gulf, Argentina. The age, growth, age at maturity and the maximum intrinsic rate of population increase rmax of A. castelnaui were studied using 152 specimens collected from off Uruguay and north Argentina (35°–42° S), between June 2013 and February 2020. Vertebrae from 143 individuals were used for ageing (females: n = 83, size range 404–1300 mm total length, TL; males: n = 60, size range 400–1270 mm TL). Maximum ages determined for females and males were 30 and 28 years, respectively. To fit growth models, non-linear and Bayesian estimation approaches were considered. For the first approach, a set of four candidate growth (size-at-age) models were fitted: three-parameter von Bertalanffy, two-parameter von Bertalanffy with fixed L0, Gompertz and Logistic. In the second approach, von Bertalanffy, Gompertz and Logistic were fitted. For non-linear estimation, model selection indicated that the entire set of candidate growth models were supported by the data. The von Bertalanffy was selected as the best model for Bayesian estimation. There were no differences in growth between sexes. For the sexes combined, the von Bertalanffy growth model by Bayesian method was considered the most adequate to describe the growth of A. castelnaui (growth mean parameters ± S.D.: L∞ = 1210.29 ± 40.68 mm; k = 0.12 ± 0.01 years−1; L0 = 179.20 ± 11.62 mm). The age at maturity was estimated at 16.21 and 14.04 years for females and males, respectively. The maximum intrinsic rate of population increase rmax was estimated as 0.252 years−1. Life-history traits and rmax provided in the present study suggest that this species has a relatively low productivity and may be vulnerable to an intense fishing pressure

La legislación debe incorporar definitivamente la COVID-19 al listado de EP.Introduction: The HCWs have the highest occupational exposure to the contagion of SARS-CoV-2. The increase in infection and mortality affects health systems. The recognition of COVID-19 as an Occupational Disease was a fundamental protection measure. The objective of this article was to make a description of OD due to COVID-19 among HCWs during the first 10 months of the pandemic. Methods. Unpublished data were requested from the Superintendency of Occupational Hazards (SOH) on HCWs with OD according to sex, age, occupation y province. Incidence, mortality and lethality were calculated among HCWs. The number of records analyzed was 49,307. Results. The Accumulated Incidence in the Occupational Hazard System (OHS) was 1,479.6 infected and 6 deaths, for every 10,000 insured. The incidence among HCWs is double that of the general working- age population. During 2020 there were 171 OD per day and 1 death every other day. 69% of the infections affected women, while 66% of the deaths were men. Nursing accounted for 54% of infections and 58% among deaths, while among physicians they were 28% and 32%, respectively. Discussion. 21% of HCWs would not have reported their infection as OD, but the notification problem must be sought in the provinces. The incidence for HCWs in our country was higher than that reported in the bibliography. It is necessary to investigate the occupational determination in the HCWs. Legislation must definitely incorporate COVID-19 into the list of OD

Towards an ideotype for food‑fuel dual‑purpose wheat in Argentina with focus on biogas production

    No full text
Background: Wheat straw, one of the most abundant agricultural residues worldwide, can be used to produce biogas, which is considered one of the most efficiently produced renewable energies. Wheat grown with the dualpurpose of producing food and biogas should display simultaneously high grain and straw yields, low lodging susceptibility and high conversion efficiency of straw into biogas. The aims of this study were to determine the best food-fuel dual-purpose wheat candidates among 36 wheat genotypes—including French, CIMMYT and local (Criollo) germplasm—used in breeding programs in Argentina and to gain some insights into the relationships between key traits relevant for dual-purpose wheat genotypes. Results: High variability in individual key traits for dual-purpose wheat ideotype has been found. Genotypes of French origin displayed the highest grain yield, and those of CIMMYT origin, the lowest straw yield. Genotypes of Criollo origin showed the highest lodging susceptibility, and French ones, the lowest. Straw yield was positively correlated with grain yield in all genotypes, and negatively correlated with plant height in genotypes of Criollo origin. Straw conversion into biogas was measured in terms of the biogas potential production and kinetic parameters Bmax (maximum specific biogas production) and k (first-order kinetic constant) were analyzed. All key traits were analyzed together by a principal component analysis. Baguette 31 and SNR Nogal, two genotypes of French origin, showed high grain yield, high-to-very high straw yield, low lodging susceptibility, and moderate-to-high Bmax and k. Buck Guapo and Buck Baqueano, two genotypes of Criollo origin, displayed good values for grain yield, straw yield and Bmax and k. However, their high lodging susceptibility precludes their production in shallow soils or high-input systems. Lastly, some old genotypes (e.g. Klein Atlas) harbored a good combination of all key traits and could prove valuable to be included in future breeding programs for dual-purpose wheat. Conclusions: While none of the genotypes excelled in every key trait, a few candidates showed potential for dualpurpose ideotype, particularly Baguette 31 and SNR Nogal. The challenge lays in gathering all attributes for food and 2G fuel in the same genotype

Measuring land surface temperature, near-infrared and short-wave infrared reflectance for estimation of water availability in vegetation

    Get PDF
The vegetation water status is a crucial variable for modelling of drought impact, vegetation productivity and water fluxes. Methods for spatial estimation of this variable still need to be improved. The integration of remotely sensed data of land surface temperature (LST) and water vegetation indices based on near-infrared (NIR) and short-wave infrared (SWIR) reflectance for estimation of vegetation water content and water available for evapotranspiration require more analysis. This study contains a detailed method and measurements of LST, NIR and SWIR reflectance of soybean, corn and barley taken in field campaigns in central Argentine Pampas and laboratory with a ST PRO Raytek (8–14 μm) and a spectrometer SVC HR-1024i (0.35 and 2.5 μm). Also, relative water content of leaves was measured in laboratory during the dehydration process. This method and dataset could be also used for researching other wavelengths between 0.35 and 2.5 μm as indicator of water vegetation status (e.g. solar-induced chlorophyll fluorescence, photosynthesis). •Procedures useful to measure field spectra of vegetation are presented. •Not only the traditional method to measure leaves spectra in laboratory, but also in field were applied. •The method allows the integration of spectra and thermal data as a proxy of vegetation water status

    Get PDF
The objective of this article is to analyze the relationships between theories of strategic design and participatory design, in multiple commercial alliances between local entrepreneurs from different sectors and their integrated application in the urban context. Various authors have dealt with these strategic issues in isolation and less frequently have addressed them from the entrepreneurial experience. A review of the specific literature allows us to account for the main concepts involved in this approach. The case being analyzed refers to a fitness-related venture in the city of La Plata, which articulated, together with other local actors, a collaborative strategy that led to the application of a superior business model for its sector. In addition, he capitalized on his role as an influencer on the social network Instagram, as a way to enhance the project's comprehensiveness. The topics that are addressed synthesize the key concepts that allow us to interpret the praxis relieved. And from them, create a model that can be applied in other markets and territories to promote young local development. And in this way, different actors, complementary products and services serve to jointly promote a co-productive and self-managed culture

Proposal of a Data Warehouse for Scholarly Institutions built on Institutional Repositories

    Get PDF
A Data Warehouse (DW) is a tool that integrates and unifies information from multiple data sources available in an organization, and is used to assist decision making. In academic institutions, a Data Warehouse oriented to scientific and academic intellectual production could provide valuable information to understand, optimize and promote the processes involved in intellectual production, such as what type of resources are produced, in what areas research is conducted, who conducts this research, when the different resources are generated, what mechanisms are used to produce or disseminate the resources, and how they are used both internally and externally. Although there are many systems within academic institutions, this paper proposes to use the data sources that make up the institutional repositories to start developing a DW, due to the volume of information that can be handled, the reliability of the hosted data, the interoperability tools available and the services and infrastructure in the area
