Generating voice user interfaces from web sites
Virtual assistants allow end users to interact with apps using a conversational mode. A particular kind of device supporting virtual assistants is the smart speaker, which allows end users to access contents and services, perform searches and command smart environments via voice interaction. These devices are gaining relevance among users, and the number of apps available for giving them more conversational capabilities grows constantly. However, there is a gap between what can be achieved using these devices and the information available on the web, i.e. most web apps don’t have one smart speaker app counterpart.
In this work, we present a two-step approach to defining conversational interfaces for virtual assistants based on existing web sites. During the first step, the user creates web content blocks, which describe target contents and the strategy for retrieving them. In the second step, the user uses web content blocks to specify the conversational interface. Although the approach could be considered generic enough for any kind of conversational interface, we focus our research on voice user interfaces, considering smart speaker apps as a major target. With our approach, apps based on voice user interfaces for smart speakers may be developed in a no-code manner. We describe and illustrate the approach by presenting usage examples and an evaluation using the Alexa service and an Amazon Echo device. The evaluation shows promising results for two case studies where there is no significant difference between the user experience when comparing solutions developed using the Alexa SDK versus apps using our approach
It is due to a heterozygous deletion of contiguous genes in the 22q11.2 region.
It has a wide clinical variability, 60%-80% present with congenital heart disease (CC) and conotruncal defects predominate. The diagnosis is confirmed by molecular cytogenetic techniques such as fluorescent in situ hybridization (FISH).
The objective was to analyze the association of clinical characteristics with the result of the FISH technique in pediatric patients with suspected 22q11.2 deletion.
Methodology: An observational, analytical, retrospective, cross-sectional study was carried out in pediatric patients studied for 22q11.2 deletion by FISH technique over a period of 10 years, in the Medical Genetics room of the H.I.A.E.P.
“Sister Maria Ludovica”. From the medical records, the variables were recorded:
presence and type of congenital heart disease, palatal anomalies and phenotypic characteristics. The frequency of the variables was compared according to the FISH results. Results: 139 patients with clinical suspicion were included. 84.9% of the patients presented CC, 27.3% palatal anomalies and 40.2% characteristic phenotype. The deletion was detected at 18.7%. A positive FISH result was associated with a higher frequency of aortic arch interruption, pulmonary atresia with ventricular septal defect, bulbous nose, retrognathia, dysmorphic pinnae, and long fingers (p<0.05). In addition, a higher frequency of the 3 combined variables was observed in this group (30.8% vs 7.1% p value <0.001). Conclusion: The confirmation of the 22q11 Deletion Syndrome was more frequent in patients with the presence of particular clinical characteristics, which could guide the request for the FISH test
Towards a Flexible and Scalable Data Stream Algorithm in FCA
The amount of different environments where data can be exploited have increased partly because of the massive adoption of technologies such as microservices and distributed architectures. Accordingly, approaches to treat data are in constant improvement. An example of this is the Formal Concept Analysis framework that has seen an increase in the methods carried out to increment its capabilities in the mentioned environments. However, on top of the exponential nature of the output that the framework produces, the data stream processing environment still poses challenges regarding the flexibility in the usage of FCA and its extensions. Consequently, several approaches have been proposed to deal with them considering different constraints, such as receiving unsorted elements or unknown attributes. In this work, the notion of flexibly scalable for FCA distributed algorithms consuming data streams is defined. Additionally, the meaning of different scenarios of lattice merge in a particular data stream model is discussed. Finally, a pseudo-algorithm for merging lattices in the case of disjoint objects is presented. The presented work is a preliminary result and, in the future, it is expected to cover the other aspects of the problem with real data for validation
A Method to obtain a Knowledge Representation from a Natural Language Specification of the Domain using the Glossary LEL
Good requirements (correct, consistent, unambiguous, etc.) are crucial to software development success. Errors made in the requirements stage can cost up to 200 times if they are discovered once the software is delivered to the client. Natural language artifacts are the most used tool to write requirements, since they are understandable by the both parties that participate in the software development: the stakeholders and the development team. Nevertheless, natural language can introduce many defects (ambiguity, vagueness, generality, etc.). Formal reasoning is a good strategy to check whether requirements satisfy the attributes of good requirements or not, but formal reasoning cannot be applied to natural language specification with defects. Thus, this paper proposes an approach to write a good specification and obtain knowledge from it. The approach uses a particular lexicon, the glossary LEL, and it suggest guidelines to write good specification, and it also suggest rules to obtain knowledge (concepts and relations) from the glossary LEL. The paper also presents a prototype to assist to this approach, and a preliminary evaluation of the approach
Big Data Analytics in Healthcare
Healthcare professionals decide wisely about personalized medicine, treatment plans, and resource allocation by utilizing big data analytics and machine learning. To guarantee that algorithmic recommendations are impartial and fair, however, ethical issues relating to prejudice and data privacy must be taken into account. Big data analytics and machine learning have a great potential to disrupt healthcare, and as these technologies continue to evolve, new opportunities to reform healthcare and enhance patient outcomes may arise. In order to investigate the patient’s outcomes with empirical evidence, this research was conducted using an online survey to incorporate healthcare professionals, patient’s reviews, and clinical staff. The data were analyzed using SmartPLS 4.0 to predict the structural model. The findings revealed a direct impact as positive influence of using machine learning on healthcare performance and patient outcomes through big data analytics. Moreover, it is evident that this can lead to personalized treatment plans, early interventions, and improved patient outcomes. Additionally, big data analytics can help healthcare providers optimize resource allocation, improve operational efficiency, and reduce costs. The impact of big data analytics on patient outcome and healthcare performance is expected to continue to grow, making it an important area for investment and research
Local Pluralistic Homophily in Networks: A New Measure Based on Overlapping Communities
Pluralistic homophily is an important phenomenon in social network analysis as nodes tend to associate with others that share their same communities. In this work, we present the concept of local pluralistic homophily of a node in a network, along with a method to measure it. It is based on the assortativity index proposed by other authors. We analyze the distribution of local pluralistic homophily in different networks using publicly available datasets. We identify patterns of behavior of the proposed measure that relate to various structural and topological characteristics of a network. These findings are significant because they help better understand how pluralistic homophily affects communities. Furthermore, our results suggest possible applications of local pluralistic homophily in future research

Here we present a brief review of the latest book, wrote by the Peruvian researcher and critic, Isaac León Frías. This material tries to give a panoramic approach about the conditions of the appearance and evolution of modern cinema worldwide. The book takes up classic debates on modernity and classicism in the cinematographic theory and updates them with new perspectives and positions. The overwhelming number of films analyzed for this purpose accounts for the exhaustiveness and concern in trying to understand, in a much more accurate way, an aesthetic matrix present in a whole series of artistic movements during all the years of cinema's life. This is how this volume becomes essential to be able to answer a question as difficult as: what is modern cinema
