Microbial strategies for controlling vector disease insects: insights from CEPAVE, Argentina
No full textVector-borne diseases remain a major challenge in the Americas. During outbreaks, health authorities often rely on chemical control. However, the emergence of pyrethroid-resistant Aedes aegypti populations (KDRs) in Argentina underscores the urgent need for locally adapted strategies against synanthropic insects. Biological methods provide a sustainable, and environmentally friendly alternative that should be integrated into control programs. CEPAVE is a leading institution in South America in the study of natural enemies and biological control of insect vectors.
Researchers in insect pathology have identified viruses, bacteria, fungi, protozoa, and nematodes as pathogens or parasites of insects. The main goal of CEPAVE’s “Laboratory of Disease Vectors” and “Entomopathogenic Fungi” teams is to understand the impact of natural enemies on insect vector populations and identify promising candidates for laboratory and field evaluations as potential biological control agents. This presentation will discuss new findings on endosymbiotic bacteria and mosquito iridoviruses, as well as their interactions with a parasitoid nematode. Additionally, an innovative strategy for controlling Aedes aegypti will be presented, featuring bioinsecticide-bait traps designed with native entomopathogenic fungi from CEPAVE’s fungal collection. By integrating biological methods into vector control programs, these efforts address the challenges posed by resistant insect populations and vector-borne diseases effectively

Entrepreneurial industrial design: asserting projectual autonomy beyond neoliberal logics
No full textEntrepreneurship in industrial design entails the convergence and conflict of two distinct cultural logics: that of design and that of business. This self-organized mode of professional practice, increasingly prevalent in contemporary life, is shaped by a dominant ideological infrastructure rooted in global centers, which promotes so-called “success stories” based on economic performance. Such narratives often marginalize alternative practices and influence designers’ professional expectations, limiting the imagination of divergent or locally rooted trajectories. This article, derived from doctoral research, explores alternative ways of understanding entrepreneurship in design by analyzing the discursive cultures adopted by industrial designers and how they reinterpret entrepreneurial activity in specific territorial contexts. The study is grounded in a multiple case analysis of eight entrepreneurial initiatives developed between 2009 and 2019 by graduates of the Faculty of Arts at the National University of La Plata, within the Buenos Aires Entrepreneurial Ecosystem (EEB). Methodologically, the research adopts a qualitative approach, using semi-structured interviews with designers and key informants. It is framed by an integrated analytical model that considers three interrelated dimensions: the designer-entrepreneur, the enterprise, and the ecosystem in which it unfolds. Through this lens, the study reconstructs entrepreneurial trajectories and examines how designers negotiate the intersection of professional identity, local context, and personal life projects. The findings highlight the ways in which designers articulate critical forms of self-organization, resisting hegemonic market logics and pursuing what the study terms projectual sovereignty—an autonomous and context-sensitive way of designing and living.El emprendimiento en diseño industrial implica la convergencia y el conflicto de dos culturas: la del diseño y la empresarial. Esta forma de trabajo autoorganizado, cada vez más presente en la vida contemporánea, se apoya en una infraestructura ideológica dominante —originada en contextos centrales— que promueve los llamados “casos de éxito”, basados casi exclusivamente en su rendimiento económico. Estos discursos tienden a invisibilizar experiencias alternativas y moldean subjetivamente las expectativas de los diseñadores, restringiendo la imaginación profesional hacia narrativas divergentes. Este artículo, derivado de una investigación doctoral, explora formas alternativas de comprender el emprendimiento en diseño, a partir del análisis de las culturas discursivas adoptadas por diseñadores industriales y de cómo reinterpretan esta actividad en contextos locales. La investigación se basa en un estudio de caso múltiple de ocho iniciativas emprendedoras desarrolladas entre 2009 y 2019 por egresados de la Facultad de Artes de la Universidad Nacional de La Plata, insertos en el ecosistema emprendedor bonaerense (EEB). El enfoque metodológico es cualitativo y utiliza entrevistas semiestructuradas con diseñadores e informantes clave. El análisis se estructura en torno a un modelo integral que contempla tres dimensiones interrelacionadas: el sujeto emprendedor, su emprendimiento y el ecosistema donde opera. El estudio permite reconstruir las trayectorias emprendedoras y examinar cómo los diseñadores negocian su identidad profesional, sus vínculos territoriales y sus proyectos de vida. En ese proceso, despliegan prácticas de autoorganización crítica que desafían las lógicas de mercado y persiguen lo que definimos como soberanía proyectual
Niñez, ocio y cuidado: análisis multidimensional de la Liga Barrial de Fútbol de General Pueyrredon
No full textLa geografía de la niñez constituye un campo académico reciente, interesado en analizar las relaciones entre niños, jóvenes, adultos y familias. Procura comprender cómo se configuran y transforman los territorios que tienen como protagonista a las niñeces, otorgando un lugar destacado a los espacios de ocio, recreación y deporte. Este artículo recupera la experiencia de los autores en el marco de un proyecto de vinculación entre el Instituto de Humanidades y Ciencias Sociales (Universidad Nacional de Mar del Plata - Conicet) y la Liga Barrial de Fútbol (LBF) del Partido de General Pueyrredon, organización que actúa en contextos de alta vulnerabilidad social.
El objetivo es analizar esta asociación desde una perspectiva multidimensional del ocio y en relación con las prácticas de cuidado hacia las niñeces. Para ello, se emplea una metodología cualitativa basada en la revisión de entrevistas realizadas a referentes de los clubes que integran la Liga y fichajes relevados por esta. Los resultados muestran que el rol de esta organización excede la práctica deportiva, al erigirse como garante del derecho al ocio y el disfrute compartido. En este caso, el fútbol funciona como un vehículo de cuidado, contención y participación, que contribuye a la calidad de vida de las niñeces en situación de vulnerabilidad.The geography of childhood is a recent academic field focused on analyzing the relationships between children, youth, adults and families. It seeks to understand how territories where children are the protagonists are configured and transformed, giving a prominent place to spaces for leisure, recreation and sports. This article examines the authors’ experience within the framework of a partnership project between the Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences (Conicet - National University of Mar del Plata) and the Liga Barrial de Fútbol (LBF) of General Pueyrredon District, an organization operating in contexts of high social vulnerability.
The objective is to analyze this association from a multidimensional perspective of leisure and in relation to childcare practices. To this end, a qualitative methodology is used based on the review of interviews conducted with representatives of the clubs that make up the league and signings reported by the league. The results show that the role of this organization goes beyond sports, establishing itself as a guarantor of the right to leisure and shared enjoyment. In this case, football serves as a vehicle for care, support, and participation, contributing to the quality of life of children in vulnerable situations
Límites y bordes para una cartografía en construcción: representaciones de infancia en dos libros de la colección Identidades bonaerenses
No full textEn el presente trabajo nos proponemos indagar las “representaciones de infancia” que se entraman en la colección Identidades Bonaerenses (2023). Haremos foco en dos de los libros que integran el catálogo de la colección: "Donde la ciudad termina", escrito por Ruth Kaufman e ilustrado por Daniel Roldán, y "El borde del agua", de Ángeles Durini con ilustraciones de Sabina Schürmann. Se trata en ambos casos de textos poéticos ilustrados que hacen alusión a los límites y bordes y despiertan interrogantes sobre la forma de vincular identidad con territorio.In this paper, we propose to explore the "representations of childhood” woven into the Identidades Bonaerenses series (2023). We will focus on two of the books in the collection’s catalog:
Where the city ends, written by Ruth Kaufman and illustrated by Daniel Roldán, and The Edge of the Water, by Ángeles Durini with illustrations by Sabina Schürmann. Both are illustrated poetic texts that allude to limits, boundaries and raise questions about how identity is linked to territory

No full textLa experiencia en el H.I.A.E.P. "Sor María Ludovica” dentro del ámbito de Salud Mental marcó un momento significativo en nuestro recorrido profesional como terapistas ocupacionales. En este contexto, se aborda la internación de niños, niñas y adolescentes (NNyA) que atraviesan episodios agudos en su salud mental, lo cual plantea múltiples desafíos, no sólo para los NNyA, sino también para los equipos interdisciplinarios que los acompañan.
Desde la Terapia Ocupacional (TO), uno de los principales ejes de intervención es el desempeño ocupacional. Durante el proceso de internación, es común que se vean alterados los patrones de desempeño: hábitos, rutinas y roles. Estas alteraciones se vinculan tanto con la propia situación de salud como con las características del entorno institucional, que muchas veces, aunque necesarias, pueden resultar limitantes para el desarrollo de una vida cotidiana con actividades significativas
Standardizing training protocol of an intestinal transplantation model: A learning curve study
No full textRodent models of intestinal transplantation are crucial for advancing our understanding of various biological processes related to the procedure, including ischemia-reperfusion injury, acute cellular rejection and immunological tolerance, among others. These models also provide a platform for developing strategies and therapeutics aimed at improving long-term survival, with the ultimate goal of translating laboratory findings into clinical applications. With over twenty years of experience in intestinal transplantation in rodents, our team currently achieves a survival rate of 83 % in orthotopic transplants and 85 % in heterotopic transplants—success rates comparable to those reported by leading research groups in the field. This manuscript outlines the key steps involved in achieving successful results in rat intestinal transplantation models. It covers the entire process, from basic microsurgical training and graft procurement to implantation and postoperative care of the recipient. We hope this work will serve as a valuable guide for research groups seeking to establish these experimental transplantation models in their own laboratories

No full textGood Agricultural Practices (GAP), as defined by FAO, are a "collection of principles for on-farm production and post-production processes, resulting in safe and healthy food and non-food agriculture products, while considering economic, social and environmental sustainability." GAP are about understanding, planning and measurement, record, and management to achieve specific social, environmental, and productive objectives. GAPs goals are: to ensure food safety, to produce in a way that protects the environment and avoids its degradation, to ensure job well-being, and to obtain quality products according to consumer demand. For example, FAO enumerates general categories such as GAP for food safety, to improve market access or ensure water quality. GAP can be achieved by different actions depending on the crop, geography, available tools, and a diversity of variables.
A federated catalog of GAPs that could be accessed by different stakeholders using different aspects is desirable. Also, as there are a diversity of GAPs experiences in the world, a catalog about those experiences is a helpful tool to help farmers exchange and adoption of knowledge. This chapter presents a semantic wiki repository that focuses on GAPs related to intensive horticultural activity in aspects that may be subject to improvement. The repository is framed in what is currently considered a collaborative repository. The wiki includes a description, goals, and methodologies of each good practice defined in GAP. Also, the wiki contains links to tutorials, external sites about the agricultural field, and legal documentation
