Does Traditional Academic Training in Visual Arts Support a Blending for the Future Artist in Using both New and Traditional Media?
Get PDFThe digital revolution has impacted the entirety of our lives, from how we interact with one another, to how we learn, and what we do in our careers. The world of art and art education specifically have been greatly impacted by digital technologies through the plethora of new art making tools and technologies. Over the course of history, the traditional academic mediums of drawing, painting, sculpture, and printmaking have been ever present in the art curriculum, from apprenticeships, to academies, to art schools. In addition to these academic art mediums, new art tools and technology have been gradually introduced into the curriculum as they have become increasingly present in the world. As new technologies have been introduced into society, education and specifically art education practices and curriculum have been re-evaluated to accomodate for the new media available. The current state of education has left art students yearning for a bigger digital presence, one that holds digital media at an equal level to the traditional media. Currently, the National Core Standards for Art Education have the visual arts and media arts separated. This separation is detrimental to student growth as it fosters a faction between the traditional and media arts. Perhaps, the solution to this problem is to create a new, more inclusive set of standards that allow for students to be exposed to both digital and traditional mediums from a young age in order to foster greater artistic development. Access to both types of media allows for students to expand their creative possibilities and utilize all types of media based on their needs. I demonstrated this idea through the creation and curation of a series of works titled “The Process: Blending Old and New.” This series demonstrates a blending of technology through the use of photos and photo editing applications to create a series of drawings and paintings done in the traditional style

Get PDFSince 2016, there has been a growing movement to increase the number of women in government leadership roles. Political organizations have developed with the interest of recruiting and training more women to take these positions in public service. However, despite the growing number of organizations working to engage women in public office, their efforts fall short when organizing women for local public office. This study will review the effectiveness of political organizations and parties in successfully supporting and training women to run for local office.
Ultimately, this study has revealed that of the political organizations that are active in New York politics, specifically the ones that are focused on getting women elected, none of them engage or support women running for local office in Long Island

The research identifies attributes of Norway’s Russia-policy before and after Crimea and applies realist and liberal international relations theory to the discussion on whether Norway’s policy doctrine has changed. The main conclusion is that there has been a shift in Norway’s Russia-policy in the aftermath of Crimea from a liberal approach to realist foreign policy doctrine, but that Norway retain some emphasis on preserving normalized bilateral relations and cooperation

Nevertheless, these strides, no matter their size, are all essential for the overall progression. The issue that was chosen to focus on was the need for improvement in the scope of Brain Tumors. Although there is much being done, it is pertinent to focus on Brain Tumors because the tumors occur in one of the most vital organs of the body. The main issue is tumors that occur within and around the brain, and it’s a vital issue to address because it is not so avidly discussed in regards to cancers that occur elsewhere in the body. Through this research we will uncover old, new, and current approaches to brain tumor assessment which directly correlate to approaching an accurate prognosis, diagnosis, and treatment plan for patients. Upon completion of finding all the aforementioned information, we will then speculate the precision and accuracy available for even better prognosis, diagnosis, treatment, etc. that could become available if those determinations were based off genetic markers commonly seen in the different types of brain tumors
The Effects of Preexisting Disease or Illness on Circadian Rhythm
Get PDFThis thesis will investigate the effect that Alzheimer’s disease, blindness, cancer, and Parkinson’s disease have on natural circadian rhythms. Circadian rhythms are the biological cycles within our bodies that repeat themselves which can be observed in correspondence to a relative time frame of 24 hours. These cycles can be influenced by a wide variety of factors, both internal and external, such as the daily transitions between daylight and nightfall, an individual\u27s diet or hunger tendencies, and the daily number of hours of sleep that a person gets. Should any of these cycles become disrupted, the result may be a deterioration of an array of physiological processes. In conjunction with pre-existing or pre-diagnosed diseases or conditions, one’s quality of life generally becomes worsened when paired with disrupted circadian rhythms. This thesis will further investigate and explain the relationship between the various diseases and their effects on natural circadian rhythms
TEACHERS’ PREFERENCES IN SELECTING SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL PRINCIPALS IN NEW YORK PUBLIC SCHOOLS: A DISCRETE CHOICE EXPERIMENT
Get PDFNoticeably absent from prior research on the selection of high school principals is empirical evidence about the factors that teachers consider in recommending candidates for high school principalships. This study gave teachers a voice about factors that should be considered in selecting high school principals. A discrete choice experiment was conducted with 219 tenured (or previously tenured), public school teachers in Grades 9-12 in New York State. Teachers were asked to choose a single hypothetical candidate from 10 sets of 3, where each candidate was described by 6 candidate-specific characteristics: teaching experience, administrative experience, education level, instructional skills, managerial skills, and interpersonal skills. Case-specific variables (i.e., teacher-participant characteristics) in the analysis included teaching experience, education level, and school needs level. A single-class, alternative-specific conditional logistic regression (asclogit) found 4 statistically significant candidate-specific factors: previous administrative experience, instructional leadership, managerial experience, and interpersonal leadership ability. Teaching experience and holding a doctorate were not statistically significant factors in the asclogit model. The asclogit found 2 statistically significant case-specific factors (i.e., having an advanced certificate or doctorate, and being in a high-needs school), both of which affected teachers’ views about candidates’ instructional leadership. Latent class conditional logistic regression (lclogit) found that all 6 candidate-specific variables except holding a doctorate were statistically significant across 3 distinct latent classes and that holding a doctorate had a statistically significant negative effect only in Latent Class 3. No statistically significant case-specific factors were found by lclogit. The study concluded that greater attention needs to be given to the views of teachers in principal-selection processes
Eating With Your Eyes: What You See May Predict What You Eat.
Get PDFThis study investigated whether regulatory focus and social comparison could predict healthy eating intention. The Theory of Planned Behavior explained eating intention and healthy and unhealthy food photos from social networking sites, along with an androgynous target were used to induce feelings of similarity. Participants were randomly assigned to four surveys. Using a regression, it was found that healthy eating intention was predicted by promotion focus. However, social comparison did not yield significance. We found that although there was a significant relationship between promotion focus and healthy eating intention, it did not matter if the participant felt similar to the target, nor did it matter whether the participant received an upward or downward comparison target. This is an important topic to study because eating behavior can affect peoples quality of life depending on if they eat healthy or unhealthy
