No full textA magnificent late sporting weapon, with inlay decoration of particularly high quality…At breech, a nearly obliterated armorer\u27s mark, (a crescent and star?). On top barrel just forward of rear sight, the inscription Anno Christi 1659. Stock of walnut, of typical XVII Century form with sharp drop and nearly straight comb, most profusely inlaid with engraved bone, mother-of-pearl and gold wire. Designs: dogs playing; Apollo slaying the python; children on dolphins; children on sea monsters; Samson and the lion; lions, griffins, and stag; parrots in combat with serpents and monsters; birds and flowers; a fantastic cock; female playing a harp; designs of scales.
