Electronic, Magnetic, and Structural Properties of V2CoAl: Experimental and Computational Study
Here, we present results of combined experimental and computations study of V2CoAl, a Heusler alloy that exhibits nearly perfect spin-polarization. Our calculations indicate that this material maintains a high degree of spin-polarization (over 90%) in the wide range of lattice parameters, except at the largest considered unit cell volume. The magnetic alignment of V2CoAl is ferrimagnetic, due to the antialignment of the magnetic moments of vanadium atoms in their two sublattices. The calculated total magnetic moment per formula unit is nearly integer at the optimal lattice parameter and at the smaller volumes of the unit cell, but it deviated from the integer values as the unit cell expands. This is consistent with the calculated variation in the degree of spin polarization with lattice constant. The expected ferrimagnetic behavior has been observed in the arc-melted V2CoAl sample, with a Curie temperature of about 80 K. However, the saturation magnetization is significantly smaller than the theoretical prediction of ∼2 μB/f.u., most likely due to the observed B2-type atomic disorder. The samples exhibit metallic electron transport across the measurement range of 2 K to 300 K

Perspectives On Music Within the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Community
This study investigates how Deaf and hard of hearing (DHH) individuals perceive and experience music. Through a survey with DHH participants, the research explores alternative modes of musical perception, including vibration, visual cues, and emotional response. Findings reveal that many DHH individuals actively engage with music through multisensory strategies, challenging the understanding of music as primarily a hearing-based experience. The results highlight the importance of inclusive musical practices and technologies that provide diverse sensory experiences. Music is an experience that can be sought through different means. This research contributes to a broader understanding of accessibility in the arts and underscores the richness of non-traditional musical engagement. For this study, I conducted a survey which obtained data from 38 participants regarding their personal experiences with music. The various themes that I noted from the results in this survey include the use of lyrics and ASL, vibration, and technology
Analysis of the Menstrual Product Initiative at the University of Northern Iowa
Period poverty is defined as the inability to access menstrual products or adequate feminine hygiene due to economic vulnerability. This ultimately can cause social, political, and educational barriers. In the USA, 1 in 5 menstruating students will miss school since they are unable to obtain period products. The relationship between period poverty and educational disparities is not well understood but needs to be addressed to ensure equitable education. The provision of free menstrual products in public restrooms has slowly become more prevalent as a potential interventional approach. At the University of Northern Iowa (UNI) in Cedar Falls, Iowa, there is a student-led initiative to address the academic barriers that period poverty perpetuates. This program was founded between the Northern Iowa Student Government and the Northern Iowa Feminists and has accumulated data that represents the usage and impacts of the free period products. Within a single semester, they had distributed nearly 2000 tampons and 1500 pads between 17 academic buildings. This study is an investigation of enhancing accessibility to menstrual products and measuring the effects on academic success. This study has determined a positive impact on academic attainability due to the provision of menstrual products by analyzing the usage rates and interpreting anonymous student responses. However, the investigation of the University of Northern Iowa’s menstrual product initiative has also determined that the longevity of the program is jeopardized by the volunteer model. Due to this realization, this study also researches the menstrual product distribution systems at other academic institutions with comparable demographics to the University of Northern Iowa. Findings from the other institutions were compiled into recommendations on how to improve the current process of distributing menstrual products. Overall, the menstrual product initiative at the 2 University of Northern Iowa has shown promising results on improving academic disparities, but, in order to optimize these effects, there needs to be a deeper investment in the program

Using Analysis of Teaching and Assessment Practices to Revise Implementation of a Force Unit in an 8th Grade Science Course
One thing I have noticed from my fellow teachers is a desire to improve how we teach and to engage our students in active learning. As a new teacher I have that same desire. Accomplishing my goal of being an effective teacher while also improving how the material is presented requires an approach that includes evaluating not only how the students are performing, but also how they are responding to my instruction.
I used self reflection journals to keep track of how I was presenting material in my classroom. I also collected information from completion of ungraded assignments and investigations. Lastly, I collected data from formative assessments that were not included in final semester grades. I looked at the results of the work completion, investigations, and assessment scores, and connected it to how the lesson had been taught. The unit included in my research focused on forces in an interaction and was broken into three subunits.
The data collected from my research supports a shift from lecture and reading based instruction and movement toward a more active style of learning. The data that was collected shows support for students conducting investigations that require them to collect and analyze their own data and use that information to support what they have read or learned. The more active style of learning results in a more engaged classroom and has the potential to lead to improved assessment scores and deeper mastery of science concepts
