Exploratory Research on Particulate Matter and Ammonia Concentration Downwind from Confined Hog Production Facilities
The goal of this study was to determine if confined hog production facilities (CHPFs) pose a threat to nearby residents through the emissions of particulate matter and ammonia. Ambient air quality is essential to the quality of life of every population, determining risks from pollutant exposure is essential to maintaining good ambient air quality. Particulate matter and ammonia concentration data was collected in the field, over a six day period. Additionally, environmental data such as ambient air temperature, relative humidity and wind speed were collected. All of this data was used in Pearson and Spearman correlation analyses to determine any relationships between the variables. An average particulate matter emissions rate was calculated from the particulate matter concentration data using an equation supplied by Dr. Thomas Peters from the University of Iowa’s Occupational and Environmental Health Department. Lastly, dispersion models were created using the average particulate matter emissions rate data, to provide a predictor for exposure risk. Twenty three models were created, with six showing concentration values above a reference concentration based on the National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS) 24 hour standard for particulate matter 2.5 (PM2.5) (EPA, 2024a). It was concluded that there was no risk of exposure to PM2.5 concentrations above the reference concentration, past 250 meters downwind of a CHPF
High School Students Enrolled in Asynchronous, Online, Dual Credit Courses: An Exploration of Student Preparedness and Academic Support
The well-intended efforts of school districts and community colleges in Iowa to provide educational opportunities through dual enrollment have enabled high school freshmen as young as 14 to participate in college credit courses. High school students are particularly vulnerable because they may not have yet developed the social and behavioral aptitude required at the college level. College courses necessitate critical thinking and analytical skills beyond the fundamental knowledge cultivated throughout high school grade levels. Asynchronous online classes, the course delivery method explored explicitly in the current study, present a special challenge for high school students. The purpose of the phenomenological study was to address the scarcity of literature considering these circumstances and determine existing orientation models for high school students and strategies for continued support. Participants interviewed in the study included dual enrollment coordinators (n = 6) from the 15 community colleges in Iowa and guidance counselors or others responsible for dual enrollment (n = 8) in the high schools. Data analyzed using an inductive approach and open coding revealed a deficiency in orientation, learning strategies, and support available to dual enrollment students. Findings unveiled challenges faced by participants, high schools, and community colleges, the varied roles institutions play in the preparation and support of the students, and a lack of adequate time and personnel to meet high school students’ needs

Coming Out and Inclusion into Society Based on Queer Individuals
Past literature found that family acceptance of gender identity and sexual orientation of their family members who were coming out affects their struggle in society, (Flores et al., 2020), which can be themed with Inclusion, Perceived Discrimination, and Public Attitude. Background research found that perceived acceptance by those close to queer individuals increased perceived acceptance by society around them (Golriz, 2021). The present study investigated how family acceptance affected religious community acceptance and the research question of how does an individual\u27s coming out experience affect their acceptance by others
MBA Portfolio
Today, “Staying a hotel” become more and more common and people enjoy staying a hotel for staycation and it is sort of “quality way of living” concept in this new era, especially after the pandemic period(Smith, 2021).
Hotel industry has a long story to tell that most of funders like Mr. Marriott for Marriott Group and Mr. Hilton for creating Hilton group and etc. They all have a common original voice is to provide the premier stay experience for all the travelers, for no matter the purpose is (Marriott, n.d.; Hilton, n.d.). Since Hotel become a business industry and there’re more and more hotel chains established in the world, Hotel Management become an academy topic that people are studying (Kimes, 1989). One of the subjects is Hotel Revenue Management or Hotel Yield management which hotel is learning from airline business. Revenue Management is simply illustrating how hotel team should do to maximize hotel total revenue by seasonality, Day of week, pricing, segmentation etc. In Revenue Management, people always say, put right customers into right place (could be hotel room or hotel restaurant)
Instructional Routines That Put Your Students at the Center of the Learning
Deep learning is achieved when students are presented with an engaging phenomenon they can’t initially explain. By employing the tools of science, students are able to develop an explanation for the phenomenon through investigations and evidence-based arguments
Health Insurance Benefits as a Tool for Employee Attraction and Retention: Evidence from the Nursing Industry
This paper explores the critical role of employer-provided health insurance in employee recruitment and retention, focusing on the nursing industry in Iowa. As labor markets grow increasingly competitive, especially in industries such as healthcare, non-wage benefits like health insurance can be an important factor influencing job choice and employee loyalty. This paper connects labor economic theory with employment data from Iowa nursing homes, to demonstrate that health insurance can significantly enhance employee satisfaction and reduce turnover and can do so more effectively than wage increases alone. The paper argues that in professions especially with high demand, such as nursing, investment in quality health coverage is essential for employers seeking to build and maintain a stable, experienced workforce. Findings suggest that health insurance is more effective than wage increases alone in reducing turnover, with policy relevance beyond Iowa
