How Emotional Intelligence Influences Students’ Life Satisfaction During University Lockdown: The Chain Mediating Effect of Interpersonal Competence and Anxiety
Get PDFStudents’ life satisfaction is an essential reflection of their well-being, particularly during challenging times. The COVID-19 pandemic, a global catastrophe, has had an immeasurably negative impact on individuals’ daily lives. It has also provided an opportunity to investigate the factors contributing to students’ life satisfaction during such difficult times. Considering the unique characteristics of these university students, the current study examines the impact of emotional intelligence (EI) on students’ life satisfaction, as well as the direct and sequential mediating effects of interpersonal competence and anxiety on this relationship. A total of 297 university students in Shanghai, China, participated in the study. All participants were recruited online during the early phase of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2022. Four well-established questionnaires were utilized to assess students’ trait emotional intelligence, interpersonal competence, anxiety, and life satisfaction. The findings indicate that interpersonal competence significantly mediates the relationship between EI and life satisfaction. Although anxiety does not significantly mediate this relationship, it plays a notable role in the sequential mediating effect involving interpersonal competence and anxiety. The study reveals that nurturing students’ EI can significantly enhance their interpersonal competence, which can reduce anxiety and ultimately increase their self-reported life satisfaction

They dance the night away and begin a whirlwind romance, much to the disapproval of anxious Ilse, who prefers a more reliable man like her husband Wilhelm Stein. Eventually, the Sauers must relocate to escape the rationing and bombings in the cities. Amidst the chaos, Ursula and Ilse seek their own forms of shelter. Ilse tries to quiet her nerves and live in peace with her family, but she is up against a society that despises and culls the weak. Ursula envisions a perfect life with Karl, but the never-ending invasions shatter her dreams of romantic bliss. Once the dust of war settles, the remaining members of the family must sift through the rubble and attempt to rebuild their lives. Although they experience loss on all fronts, the Sauer women still yearn for love, happiness, and a future among the ruins. To get there, they’ll have to face formidable obstacles and confront the sins of their country.
WAR FRAU is historical fiction/women’s literature drawing upon true events to shed light on the hunger, disease, displacement, rape, and insanity that average German women experienced during and after World War II. The characters in WAR FRAU are not the typical, daring heroines of fiction who hide persecuted Jewish people or undermine the Nazis. Instead, like most Germans during those years, they are ordinary women who focus on keeping themselves and their families alive. And yet, their efforts are extraordinary.

Predicting Hospitalization Risk of Schizophrenia Patients in Missouri
Get PDFUnderstanding the factors that contribute to the risk of hospitalization among individuals with schizophrenia is crucial for optimizing treatment strategies and improving patient outcomes. In this study, we used recent Medicaid adminis trative claims data in Missouri (from 2016 to 2019) and predicted the risk of hospitalization of patients diagnosed with Schizophrenia (N=143446). We ana lyzed the association between previous hospitalizations and the likelihood of future hospitalizations. We developed machine learning techniques, including logistic re gression and decision tree classifiers, to predict the risk of hospitalization based on demographic factors, clinical variables, and historical hospitalization records. Our findings reveal that the significant predictors of hospitalization risk are the frequency and duration of previous hospitalizations and socio-demographic fac tors. The results of this study have important implications for clinical practice and healthcare policy, highlighting the need for personalized interventions and targeted support services to mitigate the risk of hospitalization among individu als with schizophrenia. By leveraging predictive modeling techniques, healthcare providers can identify high-risk patients early and implement preventive measures to reduce the burden of hospitalizations and improve long-term outcomes

A Latent Profile Analysis of High-Risk Children\u27s Problematic Sexual Behavior
Get PDFAs research and intervention regarding children’s problematic sexual behavior (PSB) have broadly defined PSB, including all forms of developmentally atypical sexual behavior and all potential etiological factors, limited work to date has identified subtypes or unique patterns of PSB. The aim of the current study was to examine the presence of unique patterns of PSB and etiological factors among high-risk children utilizing latent profile analysis (LPA) based on children’s self-focused PSB, interpersonal PSB (IPSB), maltreatment factors, co-occurring symptoms, adaptive functioning, and family functioning. The present study included 689 8-year-old children (50.1% male, 50.2% Black) with potential PSB and their caregivers from the Longitudinal Studies of Child Abuse and Neglect (LONGSCAN) study. Six profiles were identified: Developmentally typical (48.5%), Non-trauma-related developmental difficulties and PSB (22.2%), Family dysfunction and PSB (9.6%), Non-child sexual abuse (CSA) polyvictimization and IPSB (8.27%), PSB/IPSB and co-occurring symptoms (7.6%), and CSA polyvictimization and PSB (3.9%). Profile membership was associated with all included indicators, including children’s exposure to maltreatment, type and level of symptoms, developmental delays, family functioning, as well as form and degree of PSB. The findings highlight the heterogeneity of children with PSB and may further contribute to identification of children with varying presentations of PSB and informed treatment selection

Emma is a grieving mother who is dealing with the loss of her only child via anger, violence, and self-destruction. She finds herself isolated, obsessing over an insomniac fantasy that her house is haunted. The fantasy is more real than Emma realizes. Her insomnia gives way to a peculiar amnesia, as her body manifests some unusual physical changes.

Accountability for Unethicality: Monitoring, Policy, and Individual Attitudes
Get PDFThis research examines the mechanisms that can be used to reduce unethical behaviors, as well as their influence on employee attitudes (e.g., trust, justice, job satisfaction, and organizational commitment). Using an experimental design, participants were exposed to varying levels of accountability, monitoring, and policy to examine their interaction effects on unethical behaviors and attitudes. Two significant interactions emerged when looking at the mechanism\u27s influence on attitudes. Policy clarity had a significant main effect on employee justice perceptions, with vague policies reducing perceptions of justice. The interaction between clear policy and accountability significantly impacted justice perceptions, highlighting the value of accountability in reinforcing fair treatment. Two marginally significant interactions also emerged, offering further insight into the substitution effect of these mechanisms. First, the interaction between accountability and monitoring suggested that these mechanisms may serve as substitutes for one another in reducing unethical behavior. Specifically, the presence of monitoring compensated for the absence of accountability, and the presence of accountability diminished the need for monitoring. This suggests that organizations may only need to implement one of these mechanisms effectively to achieve similar outcomes. Second, the interaction between policy clarity and accountability marginally impacted job satisfaction. This finding implies that policy clarity, when reinforced by accountability, can encourage a sense of stability and motivation, contributing to improved employee satisfaction
