Water, Women, and Migration: Examining the Interconnections Between Water Scarcity, Environmental Migration, and Women in Bolivia

environmental conditions, and research has established how water insecurity has differentiated impacts according to one’s gender. In light of both an increasing trend in environmental migration and extreme weather events in Bolivia, this paper sought to establish environmental migration’s explicit role in the relationship between water scarcity and gendered effects. To do so, it addressed the question, “how does environmental migration influence the relationship between gendered effects and water scarcity?” and hypothesized that migration is a more subtle and overlooked contributor to the gendered effects of water scarcity. The research constructed a descriptive case study of Bolivia, highlighting the situation of water scarcity and environmental migration in Bolivia, using sources such as household surveys, videos, and census data. The results created a profile of the situation of these phenomena in Bolivia and confirmed the relationship between water scarcity and gendered effects, as well as the presence of migration in water-scarce regions. After establishing these trends, the paper related the three phenomena, suggesting a direct role of environmental migration in water scarcity’s gendered effects. Worsening environmental conditions due to climate change, mismanagement of resources, and inaction to address these issues will exacerbate the situation. Solutions should address ending environmentally harmful practices and improving women’s conditions, including incorporation and empowerment of women in decisions surrounding water accessibility. Further research on the topic include the comparative effects on men and women of environmental migration, as well as the study of other vulnerable populations

Corporate Accountancy Case Research and Analytics
Get PDFCorporate accounting is an ever-evolving beast that ebbs and flows with social and technological trends. Management faces new challenges with every interaction and must deal with the consequences. Accounting firms pioneer strategies and solutions to cope with changing regulations and accounting methods while abiding by their governing bodies. The Public Company Accounting Oversight Board as established by the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002 is responsible for monitoring and correcting public companies. The Financial Accounting Standards Board established by the Financial Accounting Foundation is considered to be the Generally Accepted Accounting Standard setting body for the PCAOB. The cases discussed below all follow PCAOB and FASB guidelines.
Public companies set precedents for each other through trial and error of which accounting methods work and are correct under FASB. My research concludes how a public company should report, disclose, or record numerous scenarios.

Investigation of Vibrational Signatures Of Nitrobenzenes Enhanced By Argyrophilic Interactions
Get PDFThis investigation studies the interactions between various nitroaromatic high energy density materials (HEDMs) and a pair of silver atoms (Ag2). Additionally, we examine the changes in frequency, infrared (IR) intensities, and Raman activities induced by the Ag2 unit as the complexes form. Full geometry optimizations of the isolated HEDM molecules as well as complexes where Ag2 is bound to various argyrophillic sites of these compounds have been carried out along with the corresponding harmonic vibrational frequency computations using the M06-2X density functional with a correlation consistent triple-ζ basis set augmented with diffuse functions on all atoms and a relativistic pseudopotential for Ag atoms (i.e., aug-cc-pVTZ for H, C, N, O and aug-cc-pVTZ-PP for Ag; denoted aVTZ). Multiple binding motifs with silver were found for each HEDM. These results have been compared to those for the isolated molecules to examine changes in the vibrational frequencies, IR intensities, and Raman activities that occur upon complexation, and this information can be used to help discriminate between the different binding sites. The results of this study may lead to a better understanding and interpretation of surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) experiments on nitrobenzenes and potentially relative HEDMs by offering insight into the interactions between nitrobenzenes and silver at the molecular level
An Evaluation of Mobile Apps for the Collation of Materials to Propose an App for Type-2 Diabetes Self-Management
Get PDFThis study is an evaluation of mobile application (apps) with the intention to collate materials appropriate for the proposal of a mobile app for type 2 diabetes self-management. In order to decipher the most vital aspects to be included in the app, an evaluation of mobile apps pertaining to nutrition and diabetes management were investigated. It was found that there is a lack of mobile apps that have all-encompassing features regarding the management of the disease. Future app developers looking to develop a mobile app that is efficient in type 2 diabetes self-management should include each feature as follows: blood sugar level tracking, medication tracking, meal tracking, insulin tracking, weight tracking, nutrition and exercise advice, goal setting, shareability to doctors, contain reminders for many activities within the app, and allow for customization per mobile app user

An Exploration of Love and Loss.” The author documents experiences, at the University of Mississippi and beyond which influenced the direction of this body of work. The author describes the purpose of her voice recital, and describes the process programming and preparing repertoire for the December recital. The author recounts and reflects upon her performance of “L’amour: An Exploration of Love and Loss.” The author includes a full copy of the program and notes provided to attendees on the day of the recital. The author includes stills from several of the sets from the December performance. Finally, the author reflects the immediate impact of the recital and predicts how this journey will effect her future performances.

The Effects of Acute Exercise and Learning Strategy Implementation on Episodic Memory Performance
Get PDFOver the years, a growing body of research has shown that exercise has beneficial impacts on various types of memory function. However, most of these studies have focused on children or older adults, with less research conducted among young adults, despite research demonstrating that memory function may start to decline in early adulthood. This thesis provides background information regarding the effects of exercise on memory function, as well as different learning-based strategies to help facilitate learning and memory retention. Furthermore, the research I completed for this thesis specifically evaluated the experimental effects of acute exercise, a specific learning strategy (3-R technique), and their combined effects, on short- and long-term memory function. The results of this experiment demonstrate that memory function was enhanced, to the greatest extent, among those who engaged in an acute bout of exercise (brisk walking) and also implemented the 3-R learning technique, when compared to those who only exercised, only implemented the learning technique, or those doing neither
Product Realization Capstone: Safety Steps for the Willie Price Lab School

development process for a safety step to be used in pre-schools. The team began by
establishing customer need and moved through the design and prototyping phases. Once
a design was selected, the team focused on developing a production process for the
product. The project culminated in two one-hour long production runs in which the team
carried out the production process to fill a customer order. The results of the first run
indicated that adjustments needed to be made to the process, as the required number of
pieces was not produced in the one-hour period. In the second run, the takt time was met
with one piece being produced every 4 minutes and 48 seconds

The paper is broken into twelve sections (cases) which are independent from one another. The topics are discussed using fictitious and real-world example companies and financial data. Development of analytical skills, technical proficiency, and an improved approach to a wide range of accounting problems were among the goals of this work and the class in which it was conducted. These goals were achieved by repeated guided analysis that followed the pace of the accounting education offered in the main courses in the Accountancy curriculum; the subject matter being learned in Intermediate Accounting was often reflected in the nature of the case being discussed at the same time. Concepts of Accounting: A Case Study Compilation
Get PDFOver the course of two semesters, I was assigned various cases to complete. Each case examines issues in financial accounting. The subject of each case varies. By working through each case, I was able to apply my accounting knowledge learned in other classes. I was required to create financial statements, research the FASB codifications, and think critically about accounting practices. Additionally, I worked in small groups with my peers to research and complete each case. To complete each case, our group used our combined accounting knowledge, texts from other classes, and the FASB codification to work through the given questions. Combined, these cases provide a broad overview of essential accounting concepts. Throughout this process, I improved my critical thinking skills and Excel proficiency. The skills and knowledge gained in this course assisted me in my courses and internship. In turn, I am more prepared for my future career
