Access services departments are expanding their portfolios to include electronic reserves (e-reserves), increased cooperative and shared services, facilities management, assessment initiatives, e-book lending initiatives, and copyright management. No full textThe Right to Earn a Living Timothy Sandefur is a principal attorney at the Pacific Legal Foundation in Sacramento, Calif. As the lead attorney in the foundation’s economic liberty project, he has undertaken several projects designed to limit government regulation. He also has worked to prevent the expansion of eminent domain laws, having litigated important eminent domain cases in California, Missouri and elsewhere and having filed briefs in many significant eminent domain cases, including Kelo v. New London. Sandefur is the author of two books, Cornerstone of Liberty: Property Rights in 21st Century America and The Right to Earn A Living: Economic Freedom And The Law, as well as some 40 scholarly articles on subjects ranging from eminent domain and economic liberty to copyright, evolution and creationism, and the legal issues of slavery and the Civil War. His articles have appeared in Liberty, National Review Online, The Claremont Review of Books, Forbes Online, The San Francisco Chronicle, Regulation and The Washington Times, among other places. He is an adjunct professor of law at the McGeorge School of Law in Sacramento. In February 2006, he became one of the youngest attorneys ever featured on the cover of California Lawyer magazine. He is a frequent guest on radio and television programs, including The Armstrong and Getty Show, the Jim Lehrer News Hour and NPR’s This American Life. No full textThe Mediterranean region of Liguria, where the Maritime Alps sweep down to the coasts of northwest Italy and southeast France, the Riviera, marks the intersection of two of Europe\u27s major cultural landscapes. Remote, liminal, compact, and steep, the terrain has influenced many international authors and artists. In this study, Martina Kolb traces Liguria\u27s specific impact on the works of three seminal German-writing modernists - Friedrich Nietzsche, Sigmund Freud, and Gottfried Benn - whose encounters with Ligurian lands and seas led to an innovative geopoetic fusion of word and world. Kolb examines each of these authors\u27 acquired affinities with Ligurian and Provençal landscapes and seascapes, revisiting and reassessing the long tradition of northern longing for a Mediterranean south. She also shows how Freud and Benn followed in the footsteps of Nietzsche in his most prolific years, a topic which has received little critical attention to date.
