Beyond the Book: The Impact of Primary Sources and Experiential Learning in Wisconsin History

    No full text
The purpose of this thesis is to gather research that validates the importance of using primary sources to teach Wisconsin state history. Drawing on my experience as a classroom teacher, examples of experiential learning, and secondary research, I will demonstrate that primary sources bring history to life for students. Moreover, students who use primary sources improve in critical and analytical thinking. I hope that, in turn, students have a greater appreciation for and engagement with the communities in which they live

Women Deacons in the Catholic Church: Servants to The Servant

Even as recently as this past fall at the 16th Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops, the question of women serving as deacons in the Catholic Church is being internationally studied and discussed. This thesis repudiates arguments against women deacons and provides historical and Biblical evidence that support the argument to include women in the diaconate. A theology of the Holy Spirit is examined, presenting a way to perceive of the Sacrament of Holy Orders by including the Virgin Mary. It concludes that women discerning the “call” to be “servants to the Servant” should be ordained deacons. This thesis can be used to inspire and give knowledge to those advocating for women to the diaconate

Bridging Developmental Gaps in Childhood: Leveraging Social-Emotional Learning as a Solution in a Post-Pandemic World

    No full text
This study examined social-emotional learning (SEL) to address children\u27s developmental gaps following the COVID-19 pandemic. Using the theoretical frameworks of John Dewey, Maria Montessori, Jean Piaget, Erik Erikson, and Albert Bandura, I analyzed how implementing SEL across the curriculum will help alleviate cognitive, social, and emotional deficits that emerged during the pandemic. My approach integrated Dewey\u27s experiential learning philosophy, Montessori\u27s emphasis on play-based exploration, Piaget\u27s cognitive theory, Erikson\u27s psychosocial stages, and Bandura\u27s social learning theory to design an understanding of how children can rebuild essential skills. The research revealed particularly significant improvements in students\u27 ability to regulate emotions, engage in collaborative learning, and demonstrate resilience when facing academic challenges. It contributed to the growing evidence supporting SEL as a supplementary part of education and an essential component of educational recovery and long-term developmental support in a post-pandemic world

An Exploration of Evangelization Efforts in the Archdiocese of Santa Fe Using the Emmaus Account (Luke 24:13-35) as a Model for Renewed Evangelization Efforts

In March 2020, the CDC declared COVID-19 a pandemic, prompting the Archdiocese of Santa Fe to modify services. Many parishioners did not return post-pandemic, and attendance had already declined due to abuse scandals and a 2018 bankruptcy. To address these challenges, renewed evangelization is crucial. This thesis examines the Archdiocese’s evangelization history and proposes a model based on the account of The Road to Emmaus found in the Gospel of Luke (24:13-34). It offers guidelines for diocesan and parish leadership to reengage the faithful
