The Impact of COVID-19 on Young Children\u27s Education - Exploring the Compatibility of Combining Progressive Education with Online Learning
Get PDFThe COVID-19 outbreak at the end of 2019 forced most schools around the world to move their classrooms online. This research takes the progressive education of young children as the basic educational concept and attempts to explore the compatibility of online education and progressive education of young children through interviews with educators in the United States and China. By understanding how online teaching occurred through interviews with early childhood teachers who implemented it during the COVID-19 outbreak, and the decisions and opinions of school administrators, this study compares the different teaching measures taken by early childhood teachers in the United States and China in the face of the COVID-19 outbreak. In addition, the study recommends a progressive education model for online education of young children based on a qualitative analysis of progressive educators’ and administrators’ reported practices and perspectives

Get PDFThe use of manipulatives inside the classroom at any age benefits the students in a variety of ways. This research examined different lesson plans, professional literature, and discussions on both the benefits and challenges of teaching with manipulatives. Ultimately this study finds that manipulatives benefit students, by supporting the development of skills they will use inside and outside of the classroom. Additionally, because manipulatives foster engagement in the learning process, teachers will reap additional benefits and students develop a positive attitude toward learning

Love is shown in different ways in the classroom. The way an elementary school teacher shows love is very different from the way a high school or college professor shows love to their students. Every teacher has their own unique way of showing love to their students. Instead of trying to tell teachers how to show love in their classrooms, this research notes the importance and impact that love and compassion in the classroom have on student learning and motivation.

The Negative Effect Labeling has on Students\u27 Relationship with Education
Get PDFLabeling students is a common practice in modern education but it is harmful to the relationship between the student and their learning process. I will first provide a clear definition and provide examples of labeling. I will show however innocuous or scientific a label may seem, it can have detrimental, lingering negative effects on a child’s relationship with their schooling. I will then demonstrate through real-life case studies the experience of students that have both been labeled and have not been labeled, showing the exact labels that were applied to the students, their educational progress, and how the labeling directly impacted such. I propose that a deeper knowledge of the students as a whole will enable educators to provide a more holistic and encouraging environment for all students. Education that takes into account the various traits and qualities of a child without creating a preconceived notion in the minds of teachers, administrators, parents and other students will be a more equal, beneficial form of pedagogy for all involved
Genetic Counseling Around the Globe: Prenatal Screening Practices During the First Trimester
Get PDFThe global state of prenatal screening during the first trimester of pregnancy by genetics professionals has not yet been extensively studied. The current study explored whether carrier screening, biochemical marker screening, ultrasounds with nuchal translucency measurements, and non-invasive prenatal screening (NIPS) were offered as standard of care. It also examined whether the presence of established practice guidelines impacted their decision to offer testing as standard of care and screening reimbursement methods. Prenatal genetics providers, primarily genetic counselors, from 11 countries spanning 4 continents, were surveyed about the screening tests offered to the patients. Of the first trimester screening tests, NIPS was not found to be standard of care globally with the exception of the United States. Government reimbursement was reported by providers to be a major form of reimbursement for all four types of screening tests. Patient out-of-pocket was reported to be an equally popular form of reimbursement for NIPS and respondents expressed reimbursement challenges as potential barriers for offering NIPS as standard of care. Governments were more likely to reimburse well-established tests despite the greater accuracy of NIPS. These findings lay the groundwork for a deeper exploration of the continually evolving prenatal genetic counseling field on a global scale
