Measurement of Spin-Density Matrix Elements in ϕ(1020) → K⁰sK⁰L Photoproduction With a Linearly Polarized Photon Beam at Eˠ = 8.2-8.8 GeV
We measure the spin-density matrix elements (SDMEs) for the photoproduction of (1020) off of the proton in its decay to 00, using 105 pb−¹ of data collected with a linearly polarized photon beam using the GlueX experiment. The SDMEs are measured in nine bins of the squared four-momentum transfer in the range −=0.15−1.0 GeV², providing the first measurement of their dependence for photon beam energies of =8.2−8.8 GeV. We confirm the dominance of Pomeron exchange in this region and put constraints on the contribution of other Regge exchanges. We also find that helicity amplitudes where the helicity of the photon and (1020) differ by two units are negligible
Nucleotide-Derived Bacterial Alarmones Attenuate the Induction of Type-I Interferon Responses in a Murine Macrophage Reporter Cell Line
The stringent response is a well-studied phenomenon in many bacterial systems and regulates resource-consuming activities such as transcription, translation, and replication. The stringent response is a well-conserved signaling framework, as are the nucleotide-derived signaling mediators, collectively referred to as (p)ppGpp or as alarmones. There is a wealth of research evaluating nucleotide-derived alarmone signaling in bacterial models, however, their potential to modulate innate immune signaling has not yet been evaluated. Several common pathogen-synthesized molecules, such as lipopolysaccharide (LPS) and cyclic-di-AMP (c-di-AMP), act as pathogen-associated molecular patterns (PAMPs), which are common patterns that alert the innate immune system of bacterial infection. The goal of this work is to elucidate the impact of (p)ppGpp on innate immune signaling. To explore this, RAW-Dual cells were incubated with guanosine tetraphosphate (ppGpp) and guanosine pentaphosphate (pppGpp), two well-studied nucleotide-derived alarmones found in many different pathogenic bacteria, as well as with GTP. Both ppGpp and pppGpp were able to significantly reduce the expression of secreted luciferase in RAW-Dual cells in a dose-dependent manner, indicating a reduction of the interferon-stimulated regulatory elements (ISREs). Neither alarmone impacted secreted embryonic alkaline phosphatase (SEAP) secretion, which reports for NF-kB activation. This is the first work to suggest that nucleotide-derived alarmones produced by bacteria may impact an arm of innate immunity responsible for type-I interferon secretion
Un enfoque sistémico de la integración de tecnología - A Systems Approach to Technology Integration el marco SETI
[El marco de Integración Socioecológica de la Tecnología (SETI, por sus siglas en inglés) ofrece una perspectiva sistémica de la integración eficaz de la tecnología en educación. A diferencia de otros modelos anteriores que se centran en la práctica docente —como TPACK y SAMR—, el marco SETI sitúa al educador en un conjunto complejo de sistemas socioecológicos, incluido el microsistema de los entornos escolares, el exosistema de las estructuras de apoyo a nivel de distrito y el macrosistema de las políticas nacionales y las normas culturales. Este artículo parte de conceptualizaciones previas de SETI y desarrolla el marco para mostrar cómo pueden utilizarlo tanto los educadores como los responsables educativos, además de presentar una serie de recursos prácticos de reciente desarrollo que respaldan la implementación. Estos recursos incluyen herramientas de reflexión, listas de control de la integración y guías de planificación estratégica que ayudan a los educadores y los responsables educativos a examinar los múltiples factores interdependientes necesarios para la integración exitosa de la tecnología. El marco SETI contribuye a la literatura sobre tecnología educativa al reposicionar la integración eficaz como una responsabilidad sistémica, en lugar de una tarea individual. [The Socio-Ecological Technology Integration (SETI) framework offers a systems-oriented perspective on effective technology integration in education. Unlike earlier models that primarily focus on teacher practice, such as TPACK and SAMR, the SETI framework situates the educator within a complex set of socio-ecological systems, including the microsystem of school environments, the exosystem of district-level support structures, and the macrosystem of national policies and cultural norms. This paper builds upon prior conceptualizations of SETI by unpacking it further in terms of how educators and educational leaders can utilize SETI, and also presents a set of newly developed practical resources that support its implementation. These resources include reflection tools, integration checklists, and strategic planning guides that help educators and educational leaders examine the multiple interdependent factors necessary for successful technology integration. The SETI framework offers a significant contribution to the educational technology literature by repositioning effective integration as a systemic responsibility rather than an individual task. In doing so, it enables educators and leaders to identify barriers, coordinate strategic responses, and promote sustainable, equitable technology use aligned with institutional and policy contexts.
Whistler’s Fog and the Aesthetics of Place
The concept of place has usually been understood as either a phenomenological, epistemological, or ethical category. An understanding of place as aesthetic or rhetorical, on the other hand, tends to focus on the widely varied uses of the concept. First, I sketch out the wide range of uses of place, that have been drawn from writings on the concept. These uses are not definitions of place, but rather functions that the term performs. Place stands in for other ideas, and allows access to different aspects of human experience. Second, I will draw from this range of uses some ideas about the aesthetics of place, that is, the ways in which the picture that has been painted of the state of place research produces some surprising results. Finally, I will try to address some objections to or limitations of the idea of place
Embedding and Enabling Multi-Domain Combat Capabilities with Partners and Allies: A Joint Concept Proposal
Future military operations will rely upon a coalition partnership’s ability to conduct regional and global operations across all domains. Currently the US has the most robust multi-domain skill sets of any existing military force, but the US cannot be solely responsible for operations around the globe. To do so would be geopolitically and economically infeasible. An answer may be to build cohesive coalition force units capable of combining localized capabilities and specialized US global competencies. The ability to respond to any type of threat through the synergy of coalition strengths will act to deter regional threats throughout the cooperation, competition, and conflict spectrum. These small, agile, and integrated teams must be composed of coalition partners and diverse US weapons systems experts that are specifically tailored to provide the widest range of pre-emptive and response effects without a significant buildup of personnel. Truth Subversion and the Challenges to International Order
This essay explores the increasing prevalence and impact of truth subversion on the liberal international order (LIO). It examines how modern disinformation campaigns seek to undermine shared epistemological foundations critical for international cooperation, and looks to answer the question: what impact does truth subversion have on international order? Furthermore, it investigates how truth subversion creates uncertainty, challenges alliances, and exacerbates security dilemmas. The essay identifies four core truth subversion tactics: disinformation, double speak, conspiracy theories, and flooding, and applies them to the 2014 Malaysian Airlines Flight 17 tragedy, where Russian actors employed these techniques to distort facts, challenge investigative findings, and propagate conflicting narratives. Finally, the essay argues that while truth subversion often fails to achieve strategic goals outright, it poses a significant risk to international stability by eroding trust in communication and cooperation. The paper concludes with a call to counteract these tactics proactively, emphasizing the resilience of the LIO as its strength
Examining the Practice of Teacher Leadership Across Nevada: How Is Context Associated with Practice?
Teacher leadership (TL) is recognized as vital to creating effective schools with demonstrated benefits to principals, teachers, and students. Teacher leadership is defined in this study as teachers leading from within and beyond the classroom in both formal and informal capacities. TL can take the form of a variety of behaviours such as professional learning, the leading of professional development, collaboration, shared leadership, and equity leadership. While there are commonalities, the practical applications of TL can vary greatly from context to context. Even within specific policy contexts, TL can vary from school to school. This article analyzed the responses of 1,274 public school teachers in Nevada using the Survey of Teacher Leadership and shows patterns in the frequency of TL practices across contexts
Parent PTSD, Social Support and Differential Associations with Facets of Anxiety Sensitivity
Background: Anxiety Sensitivity (AS), the belief that anxiety experiences have negative implications, is a prospective predictor of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and has been linked to changes in PTSD in experimental studies. AS is comprised of three sub-components: cognitive, physical, and social concerns. PTSD is moderately heritable and parental PTSD may increase risk for these AS facets both directly and through environmental influences like reduced social support.
Objective: The present study will examine whether Parent PTSD is associated with reduced social support and in turn facets of AS.
Method: Participants were recruited from an ongoing longitudinal study of college student mental health; 94 individuals with current alcohol use disorder (AUD), PTSD, both, or neither (i.e. trauma-exposed controls) were included.
Results: Cross-sectional analyses revealed that offspring of parents with PTSD reported less social support in their families of origin, which was associated with higher AS-cognitive concerns. There was a direct effect of parent PTSD on physical concerns, but no effects of parent PTSD or support on social concerns.
Conclusions: Offspring of parents with PTSD who perceive less family support may be at higher risk for internalising problems via increased negativity, and may not feel that their caregivers are reliable sources of emotional regulation. Therefore, reduced support may explain the path between parent PTSD and cognitive AS concerns. In contrast, it is possible that simply having a parent with PTSD who perhaps displays outward symptoms of anxiety increases risk for more AS physical concerns. Together, these findings suggest that offspring of parents with PTSD are a high-risk group on whom family-based interventions bolstering social support and AS (cognitive)-based interventions ought to be focused.

Antecedentes: La sensibilidad a la ansiedad (SA), la creencia que las experiencias de ansiedad tienen implicancias negativas, es un predictor prospectivo de trastorno de estrés postraumático (TEPT) y se ha vinculado con cambios en el TEPT en estudios experimentales. La SA tiene tres subcomponentes: preocupaciones cognitivas, físicas y sociales. El TEPT es moderadamente hereditario y el TEPT parental puede aumentar el riesgo por estas facetas del SA tanto directamente como a través de influencias ambientales como el bajo apoyo social.
Objetivo: El presente estudio examinará si el TEPT parental se asocia con reducción de apoyo social y, a su vez, de las facetas de la SA.
Método: Los participantes fueron reclutados a partir de un estudio longitudinal en curso sobre la salud mental de estudiantes universitarios; se incluyeron a 94 personas con trastorno por uso de alcohol actual (TUA), TEPT, ambos, o ninguno (es decir, controles expuestos a trauma).
Resultados: Los análisis transversales revelaron que los hijos de padres con TEPT reportaban menor apoyo social en sus familias de origen, lo que se asoció con mayores preocupaciones cognitivas relacionadas con la SA. Hubo un efecto directo del TEPT parental sobre las preocupaciones físicas, pero no hubo efecto del TEPT parental o del apoyo sobre las preocupaciones sociales.
Conclusiones: Los hijos de padres con TEPT que perciben menos apoyo familiar pueden tener un mayor riesgo de internalizar los problemas a través de una mayor negatividad y pueden no sentir que sus cuidadores son fuentes confiables de regulación emocional. Emerging Applications of Ions and Plasmas
This book discusses recent advances in the science and technology of charged particles and emerging frontiers in applications of ions and plasmas. In particular, this includes: ion/plasma interactions with soft matters, especially, interrogating local bio cells, bio systems, liquids and gels; interactions with ambient environments; processes associated with fine-scale characterization of materials, materials modification, new material discovery, and above all, plasma chemistry. The book takes a broad view of the underlying problems with a distinct aim to engage young researchers and even advanced undergraduate and beginning graduate students. The first few chapters discuss relevant broad science issues covering ions and plasmas as well as methodologies for their manipulations; in addition, mathematical and computational tools for analysis are highlighted through simple examples. This background knowledge, in turn, develops a solid foundation for the chapters on numerous emerging application areas. A balance between science and engineering, along with relevant computational modeling, simulation, and exploitation of data, is maintained throughout. Prospective outlooks for the future are discussed. Overall, this book offers a lens for the reader to get acquainted with active and fruitful emerging application domains for future explorations.
