    Ghosts of Picher

    No full text
Picher, Oklahoma is a ghost town that was shuttered because of the big chat hills around it. The rocks in these chat piles contain trace amounts of lead, and other heavy metals back when Picher was a mining town. Of course with the size of these piles it became and ecological disaster. This photo showcases some of Picher along with the massive hills of toxic rock around it on a foggy day in Ottawa County, Oklahoma.https://digitalcommons.pittstate.edu/wideopenspace/1003/thumbnail.jp
