Call for Papers: A Study of LIS Journals\u27 Aims, Focuses, and Scopes
This presenter analyzed library and information science and library and information science adjacent journals’ scopes and aims to understand the commonality between statements and what the journals are looking for in submissions. The data investigates frequently used words/phrases across journals and what might make a journal stand out from the rest. The study continues by examining open access vs fee-based journals. As a librarian at a university, the presenter understands the importance of disseminating research with those in the profession, along with the expectation by institutions to publish research. Journals, particularly peer-reviewed, are highly regarded as one avenue to publish research. By looking at the aims and scopes, this poster examines one of the first impressions an individual might have about a journal when they are looking to publish their research. Understanding a journal’s aims, focuses, and scopes gives individuals a better idea of what they are looking for in a journal and what to expect. This poster is beneficial to those who may lack mentorship and support from their institutions and cannot seek advice about journals. This poster will engage audiences by asking them to reflect on their current understanding of journals and how these understandings affect their perception
