Sunflower Oil-Based Wood Adhesive With High Mechanical Strength And Enhanced Bonding By Introducing Fillers
Petroleum-based compounds are generally utilized in industries for getting higher mechanical strength for wood application, where the process of synthesis releases toxins into the environment and causes health issues.
Because of this, scientists are trying to make biobased compounds and products. In this research, sunflower polyol was used to make polyurethane (PU) resin. For the formation of polyol, an epoxidation reaction followed by a ring-opening reaction was performed. The presence of hydroxyl groups was confirmed using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) and hydroxyl value determination test to confirm the polyol formation. After that, hydroxyl groups of polyol were reacted with diisocyanate to synthesize polyurethane.
Two different techniques were used to cure the adhesive for wood samples. In the first set of samples, heat and pressure were applied simultaneously via hot press for a certain time; after that, samples were placed at room temperature for 24 hours.
For the second set, samples were cured with a manual clamping technique at room temperature for 24 hours. With the hot-press technique, variations in time and temperature were done to find ideal conditions and highest tensile strength. Adhesion properties were observed with tensile strength testing. The highest tensile strength was observed to be 5.66 MPa without the addition of any filler. Furthermore, silicon dioxide (SiO2), microcrystalline cellulose (MCC), and titanium dioxide (TiO2) were introduced as fillers to improve bonding strength. With the introduction of SiO2, TiO2, and MCC filler, an 86.25%, 27.14%, and 34.15% improvement in adhesive strength was observed, respectively. Apart from that, other characterizations were also done with the help of thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), FTIR, and gel permeation chromatography (GPC) for the analysis of the prepared samples

Fandom and activism: Experimenting with memetic communication appeals about human rights issues during the 2022 winter Olympic games
In the sports context, activism is a popular focus of inquiry. In fact, scholars have posited that sports present an ideal platform for human rights and political activism and protest (Agyemang, Singer, & DeLorme, 2010; Coombs & Cassilo, 2017; Kaufman & Wolff, 2010). This study aims to analyze the persuasiveness of memetic communication in the global sports context by investigating the influence of exposure to social advocacy memes on issue importance and general attitudes toward global human rights. This experiment relied on MTurk participants in an online experiment using Qualtrics software hosted by the Communication Research Lab at a Midwest University. We measure the persuasive influence of a variety of persuasive strategies (e.g., assertive, comparative, calls to action, and appeals to self-efficacy) as well as explicit affiliations within a real-time global sports context (e.g., 2022 Winter Olympics). These findings add to existing scholarship by focusing on post-exposure behavioral intentions (e.g., diffusion intentions, advocacy intentions, consumption intentions, and information-seeking intentions) likely to spur activism and advocacy. These findings support the position that memetic communications help to serve as a motivational catalyst for information-seeking behaviors about global human rights issues in real-time global sports contexts. Discussion and limitations are provided
Medical Tourism & Communication
Medical tourism (MT), sometimes referred to as health tourism or medical travel, involves both the treatment of illness and the facilitation of wellness, with travel. Medical tourism is a multifaceted and multiphase process involving many agents and actors that requires careful planning and execution. The coordinated process involves the biomedical, transportation, tourism, and leisure industries. From the communication perspective, the process can be viewed as a 5-stage model consisting of the: (a) orientation, (b) preparation, (c) experiential and treatment, (d) convalescence, and (e) reflection phases. Medical tourism is uniquely situated in a nexus of academic literature related to communication, business and management, travel and tourism, policy and law, healthcare and health administration. Communication permeates and perpetuates the medical tourism process and does so at the levels of interpersonal interactions (provider-patient communication), small group (healthcare teams), organizational (between healthcare providers), and mass and computer-mediated communication (marketing, advertising, and patient social support). This process may, in some cases, involve high rates of international and intercultural variation. Further study of the MT process can help to gain a better understanding of how healthcare consumers evaluate information about medical procedures and possible risks, as well as the specific message features and effects associated with various communication channels and information delivery systems. Continuing scholarly efforts also should focus on the relationship between medical tourism and communication
