The ability of students to disseminate information about dissatisfactory educational experiences to potential student enrollees has increased with the growth of social media. Organizations wishing to use online enrollment as a growth mechanism or offset physical enrollment decreases need tools to understand their perceived market value and quality. A frequently used tool for consumer satisfaction, the Net Promoter Score (NPS), has rarely been applied to academia. Supporting Children through Traumatic Loss: A Counseling Group for Children

Children who experience the loss of a close relationship in a traumatic way can negatively affect their mental and physical health, and academic and behavioral functioning, and have a higher mortality rate (Burns et al., 2020; Feigelman et al., 2017). Mental health professionals need to continue to advocate for children who have experienced traumatic loss with an increase in mental health services available to them. Literature is reviewed on grief, complicated grief (CG), traumatic grief, childhood traumatic grief and traumatic death are defined, types of loss, how grief is defined in the Diagnostic and Statistic Manual of Disorders (DSM) and International Classification of Diseases (ICD), limitations of DSM and ICD diagnosis for grief, children’s conceptualization and reactions to death and grief, the long term impacts CG can have on children without intervention and effective treatments for CG. It is vital to provide resources to children who have experienced traumatic loss as the number of traumatic deaths continues to rise each year. This manual was developed as research suggests that children appear to respond well to grief related group therapies (Deblinger et al., 2016; Registrar & Hillard 2008). With the increase of resources available to children who have and are experiencing traumatic loss and subsequent complicated grief, these children will have a better outcome both physically and mentally. This group manual was created for children aged seven to eight years old who have experienced traumatic loss and subsequent complicated grief. Children in this group will work on emotion identification and expression, understanding what death and loss mean, and develop coping skills for managing complicated grief symptoms. Trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy, cognitive behavioral music therapy, and grief informed models were utilized in developing this manual

The research looks specifically at students reading level and book level correlations as well as what books are or are not included in the Accelerated Reading list. The study takes place in a fourth-grade classroom in a rural North Dakota public school. Students will complete an initial survey that will gauge their interest in reading a specific list of books. The consecutive surveys show how students interest changes as the survey reveals if the book is a part of the AR program and the books reading level
THE FUTURE TEACHER ACADEMY GROW YOUR OWN: A COMPREHENSIVE AND COLLECTIVISTIC MODEL
Get PDFWhile the U.S. has seen an increase of students of color in K-12 schools, the teaching profession faces a shortage of teachers of color. A range of issues, including engaging and retaining teachers of color, learning outcomes, and ensuring academic success for students, all contribute to the shortage. Teaching focused Grow Your Own (GYO) programs have gained popularity as a grassroots effort to diversify the teaching profession to reflect current student demographics. This study examined existing teaching GYO collaboration models within a K-12 district and a post-secondary institution. The qualitative and exploratory study reviewed the benefits of the GYO Future Teacher Academy (FTA) programming during the college campus immersion experience via a one-week college campus residency. The study took place in a mid-size Midwest public university and used a phenomenological lens to focus on the GYO participants’ perspective and experience during the one-week college campus immersion experience. Interviews were used to gather the data and explore the impact that the college campus immersion experience had on engaging the participants to consider teaching as a future career and matriculate into post-secondary education. The data analysis used inductive coding with transcripts and marginal notes. The marginal notes were used to create memos, which then became codes. Get PDFBefore the upgrade to the dome and telescope, much of the work to use the telescope was done manually. One had to drive an hour round trip to the observatory at dusk and dawn to ensure that the telescope started up and shutdown properly. Proper startup included manually opening the lower dome flap via hand crank and briefly plugging in the top part of the dome to raise the upper slit. Shutting down the telescope during the summer required a person to be at the telescope by 5:00AM, before sunrise to make sure that the dome closed before the sun rose. Normally this prep work would take about 2 hours including driving time

In this paper I discuss the background that make me who I am, assessments that help shed further insight into my personality and way of living, interviews from those closest to me and my thoughts on this feedback, theories I gravitate towards, and continued development. While self-reflection can be difficult at times, completing this project resulted in increased insight that will aid me in being an effective counselor.

The Effectiveness of Explicit Literacy Instruction on Kindergarten and First-Grade Student’s Decoding Abilities
Get PDFThere is a growing concern among educators regarding how children best develop early literacy skills. Due to this educational concern, the purpose of this study was to investigate and build a better understanding of how explicit and systematic phonics, phonemic, and phonological awareness instruction impact kindergarten and first-grade student’s ability to decode text. Participants of the study included students currently enrolled in the researcher’s kindergarten and first-grade classrooms within two elementary schools consisting of 54 students. The researchers modeled and taught literacy skills and concepts on a daily basis with all students using explicit and systematic literacy instruction. The research design was a quantitative study using data collected through a FastBridge Nonsense Word Fluency screener (Illuminate Education Inc., 2023) on a biweekly basis analyzing a student\u27s ability to decode. The study took place during the 2022-2023 academic school year. The results of the study indicate there is a significant correlation between explicit and systematic instruction of early literacy skills and a student’s ability to decode
