This study focuses on the impact that digital literacy curriculum has on online source evaluation skills. The focus is on whether providing modern digital literacy lessons will increase the ability to find bearings online. Research participants were asked to complete asynchronous lessons teaching them modern source evaluation skills. Results of the study used a qualitative approach comparing responses from a pre-test and post-test. The pre-test and post-test are parallel assessments with the same questions. The only change from the pre-test to post-test was the topic of the sources evaluated. The study was conducted using teachers employed at a large school district in Minnesota. Student Perceptions of Co-Teaching
Get PDFThe purpose of this study was to attain information on middle school students’ perspectives of co-teaching based on their experiences in co-taught classrooms. Co-teaching is a commonly used practice, generally between a special education and general education teacher, to support and meet the needs of all learners in a diverse classroom. Because inclusive classrooms are composed of students with and without disabilities, the individual expertise of general and special educators is essential in constructing a harmonious co-teaching partnership (Jurkowski & Muller, 2018; Ritter et al., 2020). According to Kirkpatrick et al. (2020), when co-teachers work together to share their knowledge and learn from each other’s areas of expertise, it creates an environment from which they are better able to support their learners and provide quality grade-level academic rigor. Despite the benefits and push for more co-taught classrooms, there is a lack of research focused on student perspectives of co-teaching. This study consisted of interviews of four middle school students who had been part of at least two co-teaching settings. Through the analysis of their answers to interview questions, the researcher identified the overarching theme that co-teaching supports students. Other positive aspects of co-teaching included the availability of teachers, multiple perspectives, shared experiences, and help in paying attention to lessons
Early Intervention: Putting the Pieces Together

There is an abundance of research that supports the notion of early intervention. However, referrals for early intervention are not always made when there are concerns regarding a young child’s development. The concern arises as this contradicts what research shows: the child’s brain develops at a rapid rate during the first three years of their life. A wait-and-see model is not effective. This paper explores the importance of early intervention, the benefits of early intervention, and effective practices of early intervention to support families and enhance children’s development.

Best Practices in Counseling the Balkan Population: Training for Mental Health Counselors
Get PDFBalkan refugees in the United States have been shown to develop symptoms of anxiety, depression, PTSD, and low subjective quality of life after the Balkan wars and the stressors of immigration (Priebe et. al., 2009). Along with these potential mental health disorders, many of these refugees suffer with their mental health in other ways such as loneliness, low self-esteem, financial stressors, lack of understanding of the new cultural norms, language barriers, chronic fatigue, and more that all lead to developing maladaptive coping mechanisms (Keyes & Kane, 2004). Furthermore, most of these refugees do not seek mental health care and suffer in silence. Effective treatment methods for refugees, specifically Balkan refugees, are shown to be lacking. Some options may include various trauma therapies, group therapy, humanistic therapy, or rational emotive behavioral therapy. A review of the literature reveals a gap in mental health professionals understanding how to counsel this group of people. Because of this gap, a training has been developed for mental health counselors on teaching best practices for counseling the Balkan population. In this training, an overview of the history of the Balkan region, Balkan people, and the current research on mental health in Balkan refugees will be discussed. Along with this, the training will also aim to provide various strategies in counseling the Balkan population which includes how to build rapport and various therapies that can be used

Get PDFAs educators, we often find ourselves in situations where students aren’t always following along with what we say and at times are being a distraction for the class. Having experienced this numerous times, I was fortunate enough to get the opportunity to take a look at what strategies are out there and practice applying them to find what works best. The approach I took for this was to complete an autoethnography. An autoethnography is an approach to research and writing that seeks to describe and systemically analyze personal experience in order to understand cultural experience (Ellis, 2004; Holman Jones, 2005). This was a great opportunity for me to take a look at what strategies are out there and see what could work with my class and setting. As a physical education teacher, some of the strategies listed weren’t necessarily applicable because they were more for traditional classroom settings. The Effects of Verbal Fluency Interventions: Phonemic versus Semantic Fluency Outcomes in Parkinson\u27s Disease
Get PDFVerbal fluency (VF) tasks are well-established and widely used tools in clinical assessment and research settings to evaluate executive functioning skills. They consist of verbally generating as many different items as possible that either begin with a specified letter (i.e., phonemic) or belong to a category (i.e., semantic) within 60 seconds. Due to deficits in executive functioning, individuals with Parkinson’s disease (PD) have increased difficulty with phonemic compared to semantic fluency. Although VF tasks are commonly used as intervention tools within speech-language pathology clinical practice, there is limited research investigating their therapeutic benefit. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of a VF task intervention program at rehabilitating VF performances of an individual with PD. Additionally, this study investigated any effects of intervention on other measures of executive functioning. A quasi-experimental, pretest/posttest design was used. The 10-session intervention period focused on teaching and practicing the clustering and switching approach to VF tasks. Results revealed no significant changes in VF performances after intervention. Significant changes to other executive functioning measures validate the need for further investigation into VF tasks as therapeutic tools

Special education encompasses all types of services including academics, speech and language, occupational therapies, and social and emotional learning skills. Students can receive social and emotional learning services for a wide variety of behaviors or concerns that are being seen and within these services there are a multitude of curriculums that fit the needs of a variety of different students. Based on current research there is a social skills curriculum that encompasses six different components in order to teach students to be a more well-rounded individual. Lessons within the curriculum help students to learn skills and strategies to manage their emotions in their everyday life. Because of this research and this social skills curriculum, a handbook was made in order to share with parents what their students are learning and the different components and research behind the social skills curriculum of A.I.M. Accept, Identify and Move. This curriculum is being used in more schools as a social skills curriculum for all ages
CORRELATION OF PERCEIVED QUALITY OF PROGRAM AND RETENTION AMONG ONLINE NON-TRADITIONAL PROFESSIONAL MANAGEMENT COLLEGE STUDENTS
Get PDFOnline learning for undergraduate college students has significantly grown in demand and allows for more diverse and nontraditional students (e.g., 24 years old or older, attend part-time, work fulltime, have dependents) to pursue a college education. Although research studies indicate that online education is just as effective and robust as traditional, face-to-face delivery, students in online courses have lower retention rates (Bawa, 2016). Understanding the students’ perceived quality of online programming, along with demographic variables, will provide insight to understand retention of undergraduate students within online programs. This post-positivists, correlational research study examined two research questions including the relationship between perceived quality of online instruction to perceived estimated retention of nontraditional, undergraduate online college students and the role demographic factors play in online student retention. Through a convenience sample using a Qualtrics survey, 163 students in the Professional Management Department at a small, midwestern university completed a four-part questionnaire consisting of demographic questions, SLS-OLE, API, and open-ended questions. Both descriptive statistics and nonparametric tests were used to find the relationships. Participants indicated overall high satisfaction (76.4%) and high intention of retention (96.9%). The results using Spearman rank order correlation indicated that there was no correlation between overall student satisfaction and estimated retention. Although overall student satisfaction could not predict students’ intention to persist, it does provide that the elements creating high levels of student satisfaction also contributed to the decision of intended program completion. Implications for practice include faculty getting to know their audience, provide a social presence within the online courses, and keep online learning management course design similar among degree program courses

They also produce plastic products for packaging, storage, safety products, and specialty moldings. Myers was founded in 1933 in Akron, Ohio, by two brothers. In the first section, firm characteristics, I will analyze the firm\u27s business segments, leadership, ownership, industries, and markets and conduct a SWOT analysis.
Following the first section, I will analyze the firm\u27s financial statements and accounting policies by comparing them to the benchmark company that I have chosen. The bench company, Tredegar Corporation, is a main competitor in Myers\u27s industries. I will analyze the Company\u27s activity, liquidity, and profitability ratios. Finally, after looking at all the information I provided in this research, I will decide whether Myers Industries is a financially well-off company and how it matches up with its competitor, Tredegar Corporation
