Analyzing Population Density and Behavior of Tuli Region Wildlife Using Camera Traps

    No full text
Understanding population density and distribution, interactions between species and the environment, and behavioral tendencies within a population are core facets of ecology. Additionally, these are all important aspects of conservation and wildlife management. Camera traps are beneficial tools for collecting this data, as they are less invasive, more durable, and can remain strategically placed in the field for an extended duration compared to a human observer. During an ecology study abroad in Botswana, students set out camera traps at high-traffic areas to collect population and behavior data. Comparing population insights into the patterns and movement of common local wildlife

Exploring the Impact of Digital and Social Media on Recruiting Georgia High School Football Players by NCAA Division 1 Universities in Georgia

    Get PDF
Social and digital media integration has revolutionized the landscape of college football recruiting, offering innovative tools and strategies to enhance recruitment. Modern technology, including platforms such as X and Hudl, facilitates direct communication between high school athletes and college coaches. At the same time, companies like Route and RosterSpot employ data science and machine learning to optimize player-college matches. These technologies enable coaches to discover talent more efficiently and foster a personalized athlete recruiting experience (Booton, 2020). Additionally, social networking sites like Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat have become essential tools in the NCAA recruiting process, allowing for real-time updates, extensive networking opportunities, and increasing visibility of athletes’ profiles, significantly influencing recruitment decisions (Hanson, 2023). Practical advice for aspiring college athletes emphasizes the importance of leveraging highlight videos and maintaining active social media profiles to attract the attention of college recruiters, particularly for athletes from smaller schools (Smith, 2017). Integrating social and digital media into recruitment has democratized access to college football programs, enabling high school athletes to showcase their skills and connect more effectively with college coaches. This research aims to understand digital and social media’s impact on recruitment processes within Georgia’s NCAA Division 1 football programs. By focusing on how recruitment staff in these programs identify and recruit high school football players, the study will examine how different platforms cater to various recruitment needs, such as utilizing a particular media platform to showcase facilities and programs or engaging with players on other platforms. As technology continues to evolve, its role in shaping the future of college football recruitment will only become more pronounced.

From Victorian Doubt to American Deconstruction: Exploring Faith Crises Across Time and Geography

    Get PDF
This research consists of a comparative analysis of faith crises in two distinct historical periods: the Victorian era (1830s-1914) and modern America. Through examining the Victorian crisis of faith and the contemporary American deconstruction movement within Protestant Evangelicalism, this study explores the common themes, diverse responses, and enduring relevance of faith doubt within Christianity. The Victorian crisis emerged amidst scientific advancements, theological debates, and shifting societal norms, prompting intellectuals to grapple with doubts about traditional Christian beliefs. Prominent figures publicly challenged religious orthodoxy, while evolving scientific theories, particularly evolution, further fueled skepticism. In contrast, the American crisis of Evangelicalism is characterized by disillusionment with Evangelical stances on social and political issues, leading to theological reevaluation and controversy among Americans. This comparative analysis illuminates shared challenges across different historical contexts, highlighting the complex interplay between faith, doubt, and societal change. By exploring these faith crises through a comparative lens, this study provides insight into the evolving nature of religious beliefs and their impact on individuals and communities

A Phytochemical Analysis of Secondary Metabolites in Eupatorium Serotinum

    Get PDF
Phytochemistry, a subset of Natural Products Chemistry, studies chemically derived products from natural substances. Advances in this field have important applications in medicinal research due to the distinctive and unique properties of natural compounds. All metabolites are produced from the metabolic cycle, which is a pathway that provides energy for the organism. These metabolic compounds vary greatly and are classified based on their function within the organism. Primary metabolites are abundant and contribute to organism growth, development, and maintenance of energy. Secondary metabolites are found in lesser quantity and correlate to natural defense mechanisms. For example, salicylic acid is a secondary metabolite from Willow bark has antifungal properties to protect the plant but was modified into aspirin for use as an analgesic drug. In a similar aspect, this project works with Eupatorium serotinum (Common name: Late Boneset), an herbaceous plant of the Asteraceae family from the Eastern United States. Historically, this small flowering plant was used in teas as an antipyretic, making it a great candidate for drug discovery research. Isolation, separation, and analysis of the chemical constituents in E. serotinum reveals several secondary metabolites with potential medicinal properties. A gradient solvent system with a new method of separation, Dry Column Vacuum Chromatography (DCVC), isolated compounds of interest. The resulting fractions are then tested for growth inhibition against Escherichia coli (E.coli) bacteria and analyzed through Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry (GC/MS)

Individual and Contextual Factors Attributing to Teacher Stress Based on Academic Setting and Years of Experience

    Get PDF
The current study sought to determine the relationship between individual and contextual factors and teacher stress. Through analysis of the individual factors of self-efficacy and personality combined with organizational justice, perceived supervisory support, and work-family conflict, one can evaluate how to effectively support teachers to negate the surmounting pressures of teachers. The mixed methods study utilized Bandura’s (1986) Social Cognitive Theory and the JD-R model. The study specifically looked at the interplay between the individual and contextual factors addressing all teacher experience levels and school settings to uncover possible sources of stress perceived as factors preventing attrition. Current research has not revealed information about both factors in combination attributing to stress. Mid-year career teachers and middle school settings were neglected as literature often incorporated these settings under a secondary school label. Through explanatory-sequential research within the Yellow School District (pseudonym), 38 schools were initially surveyed through Qualtrics and analyzed using SPSS and SAS. Following the survey, participatory selection was used to analyze stress within the school with interviews. Teacher stress is a highly researched topic because of its importance in education. The quantitative findings of composite scores for each construct were in the moderate and neutral ranges. Personality and WFC were found as predictors of stress. Additionally, WFC and Personality interactions were statistically significant. The interviews of teacher perspectives of job demands included 1) an overload of tasks and responsibilities, 2) poor communication, 3) lack of consistency, and 4) student behaviors of management and apathy. A subtheme of lack of time appeared. Interviews reported stress could be alleviate in the areas of 1) teamwork and support 2) administrative leadership, and finally 3) teacher self-doubt. Mixed methods results further support the results found
