Effects of PAMAM Dendrimer Size on Antimicrobial Activity for Acne Treatment
This study investigated the antimicrobial activity of G1, G2, and G3-Hex-NH2 polyamidoamine (PAMAM) dendrimers with an emphasis on how dendrimer size influenced their efficacy against C. acnes and S. epidermidis. Dendrimers are nano-sized, radially symmetric polymers composed of highly branched units that extend out from a central core. Dendrimers are known to exhibit antimicrobial activity against Gram-negative bacteria by disrupting the lipid bilayer and causing membrane damage. This study explored their effect on a different group of microorganisms–Gram-positive skin flora. Kirby-Bauer disk diffusion tests were performed to evaluate minimum inhibitory concentrations for each dendrimer solution. All generations of PAMAM dendrimers demonstrated antimicrobial activity against the two organisms
“My Time in Academia”: Systemic Ideologies and Contrapower Harassment
Systemic ideologies burden faculty in academia, especially women and other marginalized populations. In particular, the stamina of female faculty is funneled into surviving a system that is inherently prejudiced against them. When women challenge these systemic ideologies, they are often dismissed and silenced—especially in instances of contrapower harassment. The role-playing game (RPG) My Time at Portia acts as an allegory of systemic ideologies and their impact on faculty dealing with contrapower harassment. Academia functions as an inadequately designed RPG where women and other marginalized populations are prevented from upgrading their tools and, therefore, are powerless to progress
Theological Foundations of Modern Empirical Science
As observed by C. S. Lewis, “Men became scientific because they expected Law in Nature, and they expected Law in Nature because they believed in a Law Giver.” This belief is foundational to the basic assumptions of modern empirical science: the universe exists, is orderly and follows mathematical laws, and may be understood by humans. Through the examination of the faith of three founders of modern physics, Johannes Kepler, Isaac Newton, and James Clerk Maxwell, we can see how belief in a Creator influenced their science. This provides a theological warrant for the efficacy of science to provide genuine knowledge regarding the nature of reality and can provide needed perspective when legitimate conflicts between science and theology arise
Capstone: Teaching the US Constitution
This capstone unit is designed to teach 11th and 12th-grade U.S. Government students the principles of the U.S. Constitution. Incorporating a variety of instructional strategies and integrated technology, the unit seeks to foster both appreciation and practical understanding of this foundational document. More importantly, students will actively demonstrate their knowledge of Constitutional principles and their impact on government and society
Spiritual development of primary school children
This study examines children\u27s spiritual development in primary education as a key aspect of holistic growth, integrating moral, emotional, and academic dimensions. Rooted in Fisher’s Four Domains Model, it explores relationships with God, self, others, and the environment. Using a quasi-experimental design, it assesses the impact of a values-based spiritual program on children aged 7 to 9 in Romanian Adventist schools. Findings show that structured programs enhance spiritual well-being, resilience, and happiness. Emphasizing educators’ and communities’ roles, the study offers recommendations for integrating spirituality into curricula, fostering ethical and empathetic individuals
