TEACHER INDUCTION AND CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT
Get PDFPast research indicates that new teachers entering the classroom are not equipped with necessary training to effectively manage a classroom. Therefore, it is essential that schools provide induction programs that will provide necessary support, specifically related to classroom management. This qualitative study conducted in-depth research into participants’ perspectives specifically related to teacher induction processes and classroom management across two high schools within the same district. Data within this study were collected through interviews and observations with first-through-third-year teacher induction participants at both study schools. The study has provided research on induction participants’ perceptions of relevant content to be included within teacher induction processes. Additionally, this study confirmed that classroom management strategies presented during induction sessions positively influenced student behavior, with the implementation of procedures and routines promoting student engagement. Finally, the study has documented consistencies and inconsistencies across the two participating study schools
A PHENOMENOLOGICAL STUDY: THE PERCEPTIONS OF HISPANIC MALES’ CLASSROOM BEHAVIOR BASED ON PATERNAL ABSENCE
Get PDFThis qualitative research study used a phenomenological perspective to describe the perceptions of classroom behavioral challenges experienced by Hispanic young adult males who grew up without a constant paternal figure. The purpose of the study was to discover the essence of the effects of father absence on Hispanic males’ educational experiences to inform both parents and educators of the internalized and externalized classroom behaviors. The study presented Feuerstein’s mediated learning experience (MLE) as a theory for limiting negative behaviors in Hispanic males caused by father absence both in and outside the classroom. The method of inquiry followed Creswell’s defining features of phenomenology which included: a description of the phenomenon; the identification of the young adult Hispanic male participants; a philosophical discussion of the phenomenology; the role of the researcher in the study of bracketing while remaining Dasein; data collection through demographic information, face-to-face interviews with study participants, and the inclusion of song lyrics relevant to the phenomenon; data analysis which developed into five themes; and a discussion of the essence of the father absence phenomenon. Hispanic young adult males in the study were found to experience multiple hardships both in school and in their lifeworld as the effect of father absence. Essential themes of father absence experience were relationship with mom, relationship with father, always stayed in school, friends are family, and self-concept. The study highlighted the essence of the father absence phenomenon and strengthened the phenomenological research process
THE EFFECTS OF E-VAPOR ON THE PATHOGENESIS OF RHEUMATOID ARTHRITIS MOUSE MODELS AND POTENTIAL IMPLICATIONS FOR FUTURE GENERATIONS
Get PDFRheumatoid arthritis is the most prevalent autoimmune disease. Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) has no cure, and the direct cause of the disease is still unknown. The two leading hypotheses concerning its etiology are based on the effects of HLA-DRB1 gene expression, and cigarette smoke. Conjunctively, the use of vaping devices amongst adolescents has increased significantly since introduced in 2007. There is no long-term data on the effects of e-vapor and its aerosols on bodily health. Cigarette smoke is the most noteworthy environmental factor contributing to RA therefore the question is raised as to whether or not vaping relates to rheumatoid arthritis susceptibility. This extended literature review focused on the current knowledge of RA, as well as cigarette smoke and its role in rheumatoid arthritis pathogenicity. An experimental proposal is also described which analyzes the effects of e-vapor on collagen induced arthritis mouse models. HLA-DRB1 gene expression, autoantibody proliferation and rheumatoid arthritis symptomology were investigated in acute and chronic RA mouse models. Ideally, these experiments would clarify the potential effects of vaping in regard to RA and provide significant insight for future generations
THE PAULINE CONCEPT OF DISCIPLESHIP AS A MODEL FOR ADDRESSING THE YOUTH DROPOUT IN THE TWENTY-FIRST CENTURY UNITED STATES OF AMERICA CHURCH.
Get PDFThe dropout rate of more than five million young adults from faith and church in the last decade, who were originally born and raised in Christian homes, has reached a critical point. The Christian community must rethink its discipleship methods in order to impact the youth of today.
The researcher explored the root causes of the problem and identified that the current discipleship assumptions and strategies, rooted in modern mechanistic mass production paradigm do not work. Therefore, these assumptions and strategies must give way to a personally crafted one-on-one relational fatherly mentorship interconnected approach for the faith formation of the youth of the Church in the United States. Existing research findings from Barna, Pew, and Fuller Institute indicated a crucial need for a new ecosystem of spiritual and vocational apprenticeship. This system can support deeper relationships and more vibrant faith formation and discipleship, which must be intentionally pursued by church leaders of today.
During the first century, the Apostle Paul, undoubtedly understood the concept of one-on-one relational mentorship. His discipleship efforts impacted significantly the lives of young adults like Timothy, Titus, Luke, and Onesimus, to name a few. Paul\u27s influence on these young men was so impactful that his departure from active ministry following his arrest in Jerusalem did not affect negatively the growth of the church.
The researcher identified the great principles of the Pauline concept of discipleship, including love, relationship, fathering, and mentorship, and has employed these concepts to address the reasons youth gave for their disconnection from faith and church. These include, but are not limited to overprotective parents and leaders, shallow teachings, anti-science rhetoric, repressive bias, doubts, and exclusivity. Leaders of the twenty-first-century church in the United States of America must innovatively adopt and incorporate the basic principles of the Pauline model of discipleship to end or at least minimize the current youth dropout rate
A STRATEGIC PLAN TO ASSIST PASTORS IN THE SUCCESSION BETWEEN A MENTORING LEAD PASTOR AND HIS OR HER MENTEE
Get PDFWithin the next decade, thousands of churches in America will be transitioning the lead pastoral position from one generation to the next. Most lead pastors are not prepared for this succession. The primary research question driving this project is: Can a strategic plan be developed that will assist pastors in the succession between a mentoring lead pastor and his or her mentee? This question is worth researching for the following reasons: 1) most literature written on the subject focuses on principles and/or practices; 2) most literature written on the subject looks at succession as a whole (congregation, board, et cetera), but does not address how to specifically assist the outgoing and incoming pastors; and 3) most literature that do address a plan are not from a qualitative case study, but rather from personal experience. The research question led to the synthesizing of eight qualitative interviews of incoming and outgoing pastors who walked through a mentor to mentee lead pastor succession, an examination of primary sources on the topic of pastoral succession, and a theological review of pastoral succession and leadership transition within the narrative of scripture. The findings from the research produced a seven-step strategic plan to assist the outgoing pastor and incoming pastor in the succession between a mentoring lead pastor and his or her mentee
ENHANCING KNOWLEDGE WORKER CREATIVITY IN BUREAUCRATIC ORGANIZATIONS: A GROUNDED THEORY STUDY
Get PDFThrough a grounded theory qualitative study consisting of interviews, observations, and document reviews, this study examined a mid-sized military organization to answer two questions: (1) How does the military organizational design (i.e., bureaucracy) influence the creative process? and (2) How do leaders amplify (mitigate) the positive (negative) effects of bureaucracy on the creative process? The data suggest that the perceived tension between organizational hierarchy and creativity is mitigated by the immediate supervisor’s behavior and ability to navigate the bureaucratic landscape. This study added to the existing body of research on creativity in the workplace in two ways. First, the researcher assessed the interaction between the supervisor and worker through the four stages of creativity: preparation, incubation, illumination, and verification (Sadler-Smith, 2015). Second, the study focused on the influence of bureaucratic conditions on the creative process. The study findings suggest that supervisor behavior is paramount in enabling creativity; organizational hierarchy and creative autonomy can coexist; trust relationships increased the expectancy of creative support; and immediate supervisors who leverage bureaucracy enable an environment that promotes creative thinking
