TeleSANE Services in Rural Areas
No full textSexual assault (SA) survivors’ access to trauma-informed care (TIC) is a major issue in rural regions due to a lack of Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANES) and inadequate healthcare facilities. The teleSANE model provides a possible effective solution by utilizing telehealth approaches to link rural healthcare centers to the SANE nurses. First, this proposed project will evaluate the effectiveness of teleSANE services; second, suggest interventions to advance the participation of nurses in the teleSANE program, and third, use the Sexual Assault Forensic Examination Telehealth (SAFE-T) center model to enhance SA care accessibility in underserved areas. This particular research will focus on a specific healthcare facility in Texas, which lacks a structured SANE program. Through the establishment of a telephone service and the training of emergency department (ED) nurses with basic lessons in how to collect forensic evidence. This proposed project is meant to improve the accessibility and quality of SA-related treatment. The proposed strategy involves several steps based on a phased training and a practice model that involves supervised practice by remote SANEs for the already trained ED nurses. The evidence will be collected based on guidelines developed by International Association of Forensic Nursing (IAFN) and the county crime lab to ensure that it will be properly handled to meet the legal standards of the chain of custody. The research will also focus on the following quantitative measures: the number of forensic examinations conducted, the condition of the patients, collaboration, and teleSANE-supported legal evidence framework. Due to the nature of case review and team debriefing, the enhancement of the factors that should be prioritized will also assist with improving the process. From these components, the project will make a comprehensive assessment to ensure that it provides a sustainable model for common teleSANE services to enhance the quality of patient care delivery in remote areas

Aprendimos sobre la salud, las prácticas nutricionales, la inseguridad alimentaria y los recursos para resolver estos problemas. Pero, no solo aprendimos sobre la comida y la identidad latinoamericana, nos sumergimos en la cultura visitando mercados y restaurantes latinos y participando en clases de cocina con miembros de nuestra comunidad aquí en Cincinnati.
Aprender sobre una cultura que es distinta a la nuestra conecta a la misión de Xavier de cura personalis, o cuidar a la persona entera. Se trata de reconocer que los antecedentes, tradiciones y experiencias de todos son una gran parte de lo que somos. Al tomarnos el tiempo para entender y celebrar lo que hace que cada persona sea única, no solo estamos aprendiendo acerca de los demás, también estamos creciendo en cómo apreciamos y cuidamos a las personas que nos rodean. Improvement of trapping technologies for insect pest species
No full textInvasive species pose substantial threats to both managed and natural ecosystems throughout North America. A major challenge in combating invasive insects is a lack of effective traps to detect populations during early days of establishment, when it is still possible to control or eliminate the pest. We conducted multiple trapping assays to assess the effects of trap design on capture of invasive insects. We tested the effectiveness of three different insecticide preparations in traps for the invasive box tree moth and a native pest species, the black cutworm. We also evaluated trap designs and trap amendments to capture box tree moths while excluding non-target insect species. Finally, we assessed the persistence of fluoropolymer treatments on the surfaces of woodborer traps after one field season to determine which product provides the greatest value for survey and trapping programs. The results of our work will allow us to improve trapping technology for invasive insects both domestically and internationally

The radioactive isotope Potassium-40 (40K) is a long-lived particle that decays with a half-life of over one billion years. The decay of this isotope drives plate tectonics, which in turn is crucial for the planet’s habitability. An outstanding question is how planets such as ours obtain the levels of 40K needed to drive plate tectonics. One viable possibility is that such levels are achieved through enhancements due to local supernova explosions. Most stars form within large embedded clusters, with the most massive members producing supernovae. These events disperse 40K into the surrounding medium, which, in turn, enriches the discs of nearby forming stars in which planets eventually form. We simulate this scenario computationally by building virtual Molecular Clouds and following their evolution throughout the enrichment process. Specifically, monitoring the amount of 40K produced and subsequently captured by the circumstellar discs of stars within the Giant Molecular Cloud.

“The German Idealist Tradition and Lukacs: the Proletariat as the Subject-object of History”
No full textAbstract:Lukacs, a 20th-century Hungarian Marxist philosopher, explored the nature of the proletarian identity in his essay, “Reification and Class Consciousness.” This chapter has served foundational purposes for the development of Critical Theory in the late 20th century, but it is not without its interpretative challenges. The final section, “the Standpoint of the Proletariat,” presents a reformulation of Marx’s historical materialism in which the goal is to “identify the subject-object of history.” The origins of the goal are found in the tradition of German Idealism, in which Marx and Lukacs were avid students. Classically, the philosophy of Lukacs is interpreted as a revival of Left Hegelianism, but this paper will challenge the traditional reading. The obscurities of this claim reveal themselves when one undergoes a critical examination of what it means to be a “subject-object.” The proletariat must come to discover itself as the author and the acted-upon of history. As such, the bourgeoisie emerged out of the exploitation of the proletariat, but it must also be the case that out of this being-acted-upon, the proletariat knows through a robust mode of self-consciousness that the bourgeois does not itself have. Exposed in this tension, the ideas of sociality and activity emerge but are never fully explicated by traditional interpretations of Lukacs. This paper explores this dilemma and suggests that Lukacs is better read as a kind of Fichtean. Primary to Fichte’s philosophy is the idea of striving as a kind of socialized activity, and this premise will be critical to achieving a better understanding of Lukacs’s “subject-object” claims.
