Improving Communication: Effectiveness of Poster Reminders In Cintas
No full textDocumentation and communication can always be improved within an athletic training facility. Increased communication between health care providers leads to better patient care. Documentation and communication must be perfected as an athletic trainer because they help treat the athletes better. The athletic trainers in the Cintas Center at Xavier University partake in physician and physical therapist consultation hours. The athletic trainers in Heidt Champions Center receive information about their athletes from the doctor and physical therapist, and/or Cintas athletic trainers. Heidt Champion Center houses soccer, women’s lacrosse, swimming, baseball, and track. Heidt is located approximately 3 minutes from the Cintas Center and is the main office of four athletic trainers. Athletic trainers often multitask, and occasionally they forget or even avoid sending documentation. During consultation hours, there is constant communication among the physician, physical therapist, and Cintas athletic trainers. Athletic trainers receive notes after evaluations are done so they can better treat their athletes. Many athletic trainers use these notes to design treatment plans and develop progressive rehab goals. The aim of this study was to increase the timeliness of communication by 50%. I designed a poster to remind the athletic trainers to send consultation notes to Heidt athletic trainers. Since this change was successful, I recommend implementing it in your own clinical practice to improve communication among the sports medicine staff
