    Impact of Resilience on Emotional Intelligence & Burnout Among Academicians: A Mediation Study

    Resilience is examined as a mediator between emotional intelligence and burnout. The study also investigates the implications of emotional intelligence on burnout. An empirical investigation was conducted among 257 academicians employing purposive sampling. Primary data were obtained using a 5-point likert scale, incorporating validated tools, including the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI), Nicholson McBride Resilience Questionnaire (NMRQ), Mindful Attention Awareness Scale (MAAS), Self-Regulation Inventory (SRQ), Intrinsic Motivation Inventory (IMI), and Interpersonal Reactivity Index (IRI). The analysis was performed using Hayes (2018) SPSS Process Macro Model 4. Burnout was found as positively correlated with resilience and emotional intelligence, while emotional intelligence also showed a positive association with resilience. Moreover, resilience partially mediates the relationship between emotional intelligence and burnout. This research is among the earlier attempts to fill the lacuna in the amalgamated domain of emotional intelligence, burnout, and resilience with specific attention on academicians, where resilience acts as a mediating variable

    Dual Temporal Analysis of Latent Fingermarks in 2D and 3D: Natural Aging vs Depletion Processes

    Latent fingermark (LF) age estimation remains a challenging and unresolved issue in forensic science. Latent friction skin ridge impressions are dynamic three-dimensional (3D) structures that undergo time-dependent changes in their topography, a process referred to as aging. These changes can be measured using both two-dimensional (2D) and 3D techniques, which are able to capture changes in color contrast between ridges and furrows, as well as an alteration in ridge height and volume over time. Various factors, including physical, biological, and environmental influences, contribute to the rate and extent of LF degradation. Recent research has emphasized non-destructive, fast, and portable optical techniques as approaches to aging studies. To date, there is no standardized optical method to estimate the age of LFs or the changes that occur after deposition. Understanding how temporal and environmental processes influence the topography of ridges is critical, as they could contribute to the overall aging patterns. Establishing these patterns could help determine the time frame in which a crime was committed, potentially linking a suspect to the scene. This study sought to document and evaluate the topographical changes in LFs over time once placed in depletion series of 15 on a glass surface and aged in complete darkness at four intervals: days 0, 5, 13, and 27 post-deposition. Two imaging techniques were employed: a conventional 2D method using black magnetic powder and photography, and a microscopic 3D technique with an optical profilometer (OP). Sebaceous-rich LFs from four healthy adult males were collected in triplicate from the index finger and thumb of the dominant hand. A total of 1,440 LFs were deposited with medium pressure and images were collected under monitored environmental and lighting conditions. The 2D analysis provided data on color contrast (CC metric) and ridge clarity (BG metric). The 3D analysis measured microscopic data along the x, y, and z axes, specifically ridge height (Sa metric) and volume (Vu metric). The analysis included normalization and regression analysis with Microsoft Excel®. Additional tests included box plots to examine data distribution, identification of outliers, and univariate and multivariate analyses performed with IBM SPSS® Statistics 25. Principal component analysis (PCA) was also performed to reduce the large dataset dimensionality and identify correlations among metrics. Results revealed distinct patterns of degradation across the aging parameters. Sa and Vu, demonstrated stronger sensitivity to depletion-driven changes in the early stages, with clear differences observed shortly after deposition. By contrast, the BG and CC were more influenced by aging, with BG showing continuous decline and CC becoming more sensitive to degradation after Day 13. Multivariate analyses (MANOVA) indicated that depletion introduced greater variability in LF degradation compared to aging alone, with Sa and Vu exhibiting strong correlations across time points. PCA revealed that Sa and Vu clustered closely, while BG and CC showed moderate and high separation, respectively, confirming the different degradation patterns captured by 2D and 3D metrics. These findings underscore the value of combining 2D and 3D techniques to assess LF age and degradation over time, in which 3D metrics show promise for detecting early degradation, while 2D metrics may be more suited for long-term aging assessments

    Dewatering of Chlorella Algae Using CO2 Gas Hydrate Formation for the Biofuel Production

    When microalgae are processed for producing biofuel, dewatering the algae is an important step, particularly when combined with extracting valuable byproducts like algal oil. Conventional methods like centrifugation and filtration can be harsh on the algae and usually need high-energy inputs. In this work, the new application of CO2 gas hydrates as an algae dewatering agent was investigated. A CO₂ hydrate, CO2-nH2O, where n (n\u3e5.75), is a nonstoichiometric compound where water molecules with hydrogen bonds are structured in an ice-like fashion to form polyhedral cavities. CO₂ gas hydrates are crystalline because gas molecules are trapped in a lattice of water molecules. Water can be effectively removed from the algal biomass by trapping water molecules. The efficacy of this method in decreasing the water content of the algae was assessed. The Parr reactor\u27s pressure and temperature, along with the Chlorella algae concentration, were important in the formation of CO2 gas hydrates. Six experiments with different pressures and Chlorella algae concentrations were performed, where CO2 gas was charged into a Parr reactor. The reactor system was then cooled to temperatures within the hydrate stability zone. The pressure and temperature of the Parr reactor were monitored over time, and the formation and dissociation datasets were analysed and compared with theoretical data from CSMHYD software. From the experimental results, it was inferred that high pressure with low concentration of the Chlorella algae was ideal for the CO2 gas hydrate production and thermodynamic stability. Since the dried algal yield was too low, the extraction of the algal oil for biofuel production was not successful under these relatively small experimental volumes. Overall, the outcome is a promising direction toward mass biofuel production systems and CO2 gas hydrate-based dewatering tools for the future production of biofuels and high-value byproducts through the application of algae

    Measuring Congressional Approval

    The probable link between public favorability, or lack thereof, and a low-performing Congress has received little attention. Investigating this potential relationship and examining whether either impacts the other is critical to understanding Congressional performance and citizens\u27 true feelings about their elected officials. The proposed study examines the possible correlation between public opinion and Congressional performance, whereby the examination of provided public studies and a comparison of a small survey population with an extensive population survey is observed. Particularly, the data collection method conducted for this study will consist of a convenient sample of individuals who were sent a confidential and optional twenty-nine-question survey, where answers are analyzed and compared with publicly published data from the Pew Research Center. The expected results of this study were that low favorability or poor public opinion of Congress correlates with a low-performing Congress, in addition to an overall assessment of current public approval of Congress. Such an understanding is critical to assess and present to academic peers as part of the Honors Thesis presentation, and to collaborate and discuss the implications of such a correlation, and why it exists. Overall, the study aims to examine the impact of public opinion on Congressional performance. The research yielded that increasingly public favorability of Congress has been decreasing steadily overall and contributing data and news reporting results in a decline of productivity–low-performance–in Congress. Further, an article found through research helps explain that public opinion impacts Congressional members in differing ways, relating to elections and policy decisions

    Green Hotels and Loyal Guests: The CSR Effect in Poland’s Tourism Sector

    While the relationship between Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and consumer behavior has gained increased interest in the hotel industry over the years, some of its nuanced effects remain insufficiently explored, especially in a post-pandemic world. Thus, the objective of this study is to assess how environmental CSR and social CSR activities influence consumer responses, namely customer satisfaction and customer loyalty in the hotel industry. The questionnaire was distributed online through a professional research agency. The data were gathered from 560 respondents who spent their holidays in Poland in hotels that implemented socially responsible activities. PLS-SEM was used for data analysis. The findings reveal both direct and indirect relationships among key constructs, highlighting significant positive effects of environmental CSR and social CSR on customer satisfaction and customer loyalty. Additionally, customer satisfaction has a positive effect on customer loyalty and acts as a mediator, linking environmental CSR, social CSR, and customer loyalty. Thus, the pivotal role of customer satisfaction in converting CSR activities into customer loyalty is highlighted. This study offers new insights into how CSR affects customers\u27 perceptions and sheds new light on its role in promoting customer loyalty. The study also offers theoretical and practical implications

    Spatiotemporal Shifts in Bloom-Forming Ulva in New Haven Harbor and Their Physiological Response to Climate Change

    The green macroalgal genus Ulva is known to form troublesome blooms globally, negatively affecting marine ecosystems by deteriorating water quality and smothering other organisms. This study investigated the biodiversity of bloom-forming Ulva around New Haven Harbor (NHH), its impacts on water quality, and physiological responses to environmental conditions expected with climate change. Phylogenetic analysis of the chloroplast gene rbcL from 100 samples identified at least eight Ulva species across four locations in NHH. Compared to a 2015 study from the same location, this represents an increase in the number of identified species, while Ulva compressa and Ulva rigida are identified as the dominant bloom-forming algae. Water quality analysis comparing bloom and non-bloom zones demonstrated that the ulvoid bloom significantly (p\u3c 0.05) deteriorated water conditions by depleting dissolved oxygen concentration and lowering water nutrient concentrations, specifically (NO2 -), and phosphate (PO4 3-). The impact of rising seawater temperature and acidification on photosynthesis and growth of Ulva was examined using mesocosm experiments under four treatments: control, high temperature, low pH, and combined (high temperature and low pH). The combined treatment resulted in the highest electron transport rate (ETRmax), daily growth rate (DGR), and specific growth rate (SGR) for Ulva. These results indicate that acidic and warmer seawater conditions could lead to more severe and frequent ulvoid blooms

    Determination of Accuracy in Forensic Phenotyping With Implementation of Microspectrophotometry and SNP Testing

    Forensic DNA phenotyping and single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNP) testing has been a recent tool practiced in the field of forensic science, especially for identification purposes. DNA phenotyping had drawn debate in terms of its legislation and use, as it is practiced more in private sectors compared to local, state and federal laboratories (Schneider et al., 2019). When looking at specific SNPs, some are better associated in accurately predicating phenotypes for hair and eye color than others. Microspectrophotometry was combined with SNP testing in this study to determine if there was an improved accuracy in determination of genetic hair color vs dyed hair samples. Forty-one samples comprised of European descent participants who selfidentified their hair color to be red, blond, brown or dyed red were collected and analyzed. SNP rs1805007 associated with the red hair phenotype and genotypes TT, CT and CC were examined, along with the various transmission spectra produced for each hair sample from a microspectrophotometer. Through the use of instrumentation and color examination, the phenotypic determination of hair was predicted using obtained data and compared amongst a SNP test. The SNP results, microspectrophotomoter spectra transmission results, microscopic images of each hair sample and the participant’s self-identification photograph were compared for phenotype prediction and classification accuracy
