Complementary and alternative therapies were termed as a group of various medical and healthcare practices and products that are not currently considered to be part of conventional therapy. There were increasing demands of complementary and alternative therapies worldwide for different type of purposes. With the aim of identifying the general existing trend in the utilization and perception of complementary and alternative therapies (CATs) among pregnant women in Terengganu, this cross-sectional study used structured questionnaires consist of sociodemographic characteristics, utilisation and perception of complementary alternative therapies (UPCATS) that was modified according to the study and pilot tested among healthy pregnant women, who were recruited from two selected health clinics in Terengganu. A total of 18 pregnant women aged 22-38 years completed the survey. Majority of them utilised CATs in their third trimester (83.3%, n=15). Among the participants, 77.8% (n=14) used CATs to prevent illness or reduce pain (n=12, 66.7%) and also for supplementation (n=6, 32.3%). Half of the participants obtained information regarding CATs from nurses. They were unlikely to surf to information of CATs from web (n=3, 16.7%). In conclusion, pregnant women in Terengganu used CATs as one of the alternative treatment for various reasons. Majority of pregnant women used CATs after consulting with their health care provider

Introduction: The best books for medical students are their patients at the bedside. However, COVID-19 pandemic already changed the educational landscape from traditional methods to the virtual classroom. Movement control order (MCO) has made teaching and learning in the hospital, clinical skills laboratory, and tutorial suspended. Methodology: We at Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin, conducted novel remote teaching methods such as webinars and Moodle learning management systems (LMS) were used to replace traditional medical teaching during the COVID-19 pandemic. We organized webinars for certain topics including anesthesiology and family medicine. These were viewed via WebEx and included medical topics and clinical scenario discussions. Medical webinars were recorded and uploaded to the WhatsApp group. Notes and clinical scenario discussions were uploaded in Moodle LMS, Knowledge, and E-learning Integrated Platform (KeLIP) UniSZA. Results: 32 webinars were organized by us with 448 attendees in total. 12 webinars were uploaded to the WhatsApp group, 12 lecture notes, and 28 clinical scenario discussions were uploaded to KeLIP, a Moodle LMS. 100% of students said they have a chance to ask, 7% had better interaction with lecturers, and 14% had equal quality interaction compare with physical classes. 70% of students prefer physical classes when involving clinical skills. Conclusion: Remote teaching is useful for teaching theory; attendees can watch anywhere, easily recorded for later viewing, no room bookings, and no need for social distancing. However, the main disadvantage of note for airway and anesthetics skills is the inability to obtain hands-on practice. We feel virtual teaching provides continuing teaching and learning during a pandemic crisis

Dengue innovation: a sustainability approach for preventing and controlling of dengue diseases outbreaks via IoT technology

Dengue is a mosquito-borne viral disease that is surging and becomes worldwide serious issues. Currently, due to lack of specific treatment or vaccine against dengue, many forms of vector control remains a key strategy for dengue fever prevention. In response to the issue, this paper introduces an AedesTech Mosquitoes Home System (AMHS) that is equipped with a special trade secret formulation or also called as Insecticide Growth Regulator (IGR) and combines with Internet of Things (IoT) technology for vector control. An IGR is a pheromone-like liquid formulation that is a chemical that serves to stimulate and have sexually attract the male and female that will attract and lure adult female mosquitoes to lay eggs in them, and the adult mosquitoes will soon die after lying eggs. Those eggs that already laid with the chemical will not hatch or die at an expected of % rate, or go beyond the pulp level. Our sustainable approach offers for two (2) novel features. First, to monitor the collection of Aedes eggs in our MHS, we develop a mobile apps called AedesTech Apps (ATA) for Aedes eggs auto-counting and data collection are stored in cloud based server. Second, to monitor the level of liquid formulation (IGR) in AMHS, we utilize an Arduino water based sensor to real time track the IGR level status and we called as Intelligent Mosquito Home System (iMHS). Our iMHS will automatically alert the user when refill is needed. Both technologies are related to IR . that could be a new approach for preventing and monitoring of dengue outbreaks. This sustainability approach are environmental friendly and cost saving that provide the solution to the world's global issue of dengue. The results by our ATA tool indicate a satisfactory figure with only . to . percent of error rate compared to existing ICount and EggCounter tools. Meanwhile in our iMHS with water based sensor, testing results reveal that the battery lifetime solely depends upon the setting of interval time of sending data to cloud server. Results show for a half an hour interval, battery could last for a half of a month whereas for an hour interval time set, it could last for a month

Sago palm is often discredited for exhibiting long maturity period and barrenness of pre-harvest products, which restrain its potentials as an alternative and eternal starch provider. The use of sago fronds to produce prebiotic and fermentable sugars from pruned palms and fronds discarded upon harvesting is a possible enterprise to provide income for the cash-strapped sago farmers while waiting for the sago trunks to be harvestable. Dried sago frond powder coupled with the cellulolytic enzyme and incubated for 48 hours, producing a maximum recovery of cellobiose at 25%. This is of great advantage in reducing the cost of large-scale processes since the yield and productivity from SFS is comparable to the Standard Medium and SFS amended with yeast extract at 0.85g/g and 85%, respectively. Meanwhile, the composition of cellobiose as main sugar component increase the viability of the Lactococcus lactis I0-1 by prolong the lifespan of the cell by perform as slow release carbon source, in fact, cellobiose was protected by β (1-4) glycosidic bond made it consumable to specific probiotic in human digestive system conceive that cellobiose as potential prebiotic component for human. Clearly, the use of sago frond is highly economical and sustainable as the raw material for the manufacturing of fermentable sugars and subsequently as the sustainable substrate for largescale production of L-lactic acid
