Nigella sativa Effects on Neurotransmitter Systems: Potential Treatment for Drug Tolerance and Dependence

    No full text
Drug dependence and tolerance is becoming an enormous health problem worldwide and significantly affect the society. Although currently there are approved drugs used for the treatment of drug dependence and tolerance, these compounds also pose with some notable adverse effects and issues, i.e. drug-dependency and withdrawal problems. Therefore, there are emerging needs for a naturally existing substance such as Nigella Sativa (N. sativa) which can be used as an alternative treatment to treat addiction illness, which may present as natural resources. N. sativa is one of these natural substances that gaind its popularity due to its unique chemical properties. In Islamic literature, N. sativa was mentioned as one of the effective forms of a therapeutic agent and healing medicine. It has promising effects as an anticancer, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and many other benefits. In addition, several pharmacological research also has been done to investigate the effects of N. sativa bioactive compounds on drug dependence and tolerance. Hence, this review focuses on the effects of N. sativa bioactive compounds on the neurotransmitter systems, and its role in reducing drug dependence and tolerance

Mudarabah and its Applications in Islamic Finance: An Analysis

Mudarabah is an arrangement of a silent partnership comprises of capital and labor. It may be concluded between investment account holder as providers of funds and the Islamic bank as a mudarib. The Islamic bank becomes interested to receive the amounts from investment account holders and to share the profit generating from them based on a pre-agreed ratio, while the losses, if any, will be borne by the funds provider, except the case of a verified misconduct, negligence or violation of the conditions by the Islamic bank. A mudarabah arrangement could also be concluded between the Islamic banks, as the funds providers, on behalf of itself or on behalf of investment account holders, and the businessmen as well as other craftsmen, like farmers, traders and so forth. The significant relevance of a mudarabah arrangement may be actualized in the combination of financial and managerial assets between the parties. Mudarabah is applicable to the general of specific investment, project funding, bridge financing, working capital and small and medium financing, interbank investment, structured products, investment deposits, and so on. The capital is entrusted to the manager promotes mutual concern among the partners and channels funds to the productive use. The manager in the position of trustee should act in fully integrity and is expected to perform in the best manner to reach at the desired goal of the capital provider who has invested his capital without having any control in the management of the venture

The Assessment Of Physico-Chemical And Biological Water Quality Characteristics Of The Ibai River Between Wet And Dry Seasons, Kuala Terengganu, Malaysia

The environmental study was carried to evaluate the condition of Ibai River, Kuala Terengganu, at East Coast of Peninsular. The objectives of this study are to determine physico-chemical, biological of water quality and classify them and to determine the spatial-temporal relationship based on one way ANOVA, regression and correlation analysis. 3 sampling stations were selected in this study to represent the water quality condition of the river. The 2005 to 2010 data of eleven water quality parameters: TSS, BOD, AN, COD, DO, TEMP, EC, SAL, TUR, NO3 and pH were analyzed. Under the statistical approach, all the calculations were done at 5% level of significant. The results show that most of stations were classified as slightly polluted (Class II) during dry season. During wet season, almost all stations were classified as moderate polluted (Class III) even at station 2 in 2009 were classified as polluted (Class V) due to very low WQI (24%)

NutriSportEx™ mobile application was developed for both Android and iOS platforms, as an open source and on Linux-based operating system for mobile devices such as smartphones. It calculates total energy requirement based on user’s weight. It offers users the ability to plan and record their meals from a food database and provides nutritional information of the selected food. NutriSportExTM tabulates dietary intake and generates a nutritional analysis report in the form of infographics. The nutritional report covers details such as total calorie intake and macro-and micro-nutrients intake. The food excel feature which is an education module provides additional information such as dietary guidelines, micronutrients, macronutrients, food guide pyramid and food planning with sample meal set for 2400 and 3200 kcal. NutriSportExTM mobile application has great potential to be well accepte

KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS FOR MEASURING SUSTAINABILITY IN HEALTH CARE INDUSTRY IN MALAYSIA

    No full text
The health care industry in Malaysia was the fastest-growth industry over the past few years. In today’s competitive business environment, companies focus on improving sustainability to reduce cost and improve well-being of the environment and society. However, there are limited published studies on the evaluation of sustainability performance for the healthcare sector. This paper aims to formulate a list of key performance indicators (KPI) for the sustainability performance. First, a literature study of KPIs from various industries was carried out. Next, an in-depth meeting was conducted to gain insights and feedbacks with the management of a private hospital. Finally, a set of 70 KPIs which can be used for measuring sustainability performance in health care industry was developed. These 70 KPIs were used to design a questionnaire which is then distributed to the private hospital

EFFECTIVENESS OF SUBJECT ISLAMIC SHARIAH EDUCATION TO STUDENT'S INTERACTION(KEBERKESANAN MATA PELAJARAN PENDIDIKAN SYARIAH ISLAMIAH TERHADAP PERGAULAN PELAJAR)

The study on the effectiveness of Islamic Shariah Education (PSI) subjects to the interaction of students in secondary schools is based on the existence of social problems in the aspects of student interaction. A study to identify these problems is due to less effective PSI learning or there are other factors that cause violations of students' moral limits in their association. Thus, the fundamental of fuqaha‟ view was used as an evidence to refer regarding the interaction in Islamic. The process of assessing the effectiveness of the PSI curriculum on student interaction in terms of understanding and appreciation only. This study used the method of questionnaire for secondary school students form five in Kuala Nerus. The results of this study found that PSI was effective in the context of restricting student interactions in their daily lives. The level of understanding of the students is high while the level of appreciation is moder

Parallel guided image processing model for ficus deltoidea (Jack) moraceae varietal recognition

    No full text
Nowadays, with the huge number of leaves data, plant species recognition process becomes computationally expensive. Many computer scientists have suggested that the usage of parallel and distributed computing should be strongly considered as mandatory for handling computationally intensive programs. The availability of high performance multi-cores architecture results the complex recognition system to become popular in parallel computing area. This paper emphasizes on the computational flow design to enable the execution of the complex image processing tasks for Ficus deltoidea varietal recognition to be processed on parallel computing environment. Multi-cores computer is used whereas one of them acts as a master processor of the process and the other remaining processors act as worker processors. The master processor responsibles for controlling the main system operations such as data partitioning, data allocation, and data merging which results from worker processors. Experiments showed that a multi-cores parallel environment is a very appropriate platform for pipeline image processing. From the results, the sequential complex image processing model and computational flow design are significantly improved when executed through parallel model under multi-cores computer system. As the number of cores increases, the computational time taken by the parallel algorithm becomes less. © 2018, Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd
