Non-ionizing radiation (NIR) exposure map development using GIS for Gong Badak, Terengganu, Malaysia
Public Non-Ionizing Radiation (NIR) exposure should be monitored by the government since it has proven harmful for human. Even though some studies reported that low frequency spectrum is safe, the other says that long and repetitive exposure may affect health. Thus, this study is conducted to measure the ambient NIR exposure value in the selected Terengganu area, Malaysia. The values were then used to develop a spatial model of exposure to see the radiation exposure pattern. From the findings, we found that the value was higher nearby base stations which are normally erected around residential area where the telecommunication network user is high. Thus, this study is crucial to determine the level of exposure for future plan. This findings can be used by the government to control the radiofrequency transmission and active spectrum service provider in order to limit the radiation exposure for public health concern
Detection and characterization of vibrio parahaemolyticus in raw mackerel fish and fish-based street food
This study aimed to investigate the prevalence of Vibrio parahaemolyticus in raw mackerel fish as well as fish-based products namely satar and otak-otak. A total of 120 fish, 90 satar and 35 otak-otak that have been purchased randomly in Terengganu were subjected to PCR and conventional. plating method for detection and isolation of V parahaemo!J1ticus. The isolates were characterized by 12 types of antibiotic using discs diffusion method. About 67.5%, 23.3% and 5.71% of fish, satar and otak-otak were contaminated with V parahaemolyticus. A total of 58 V parahaemolyticus isolates were recovered from fish. Among them, 24 of V parahaemolyticus isolates carried tdh gene and 3 isolates had trh gene. All the isolates were susceptible to amikacin, norfloxacin, ceftazidime, ciprofloxacin, and enrofloxacin. There was high resistant towards penicillin (93.1%), vancomycin (89.7%) and ampicillin (55.2%). About 56.9% of strains isolated showed a MAR index higher than 0.2, indicating these strains were from high risk sources of contamination. This study found V parahae111o!Jticus contaminated raw fish mackerel, satar and otak-otak

Best practice regulations; special reference to reducing unnecessary regulatory burdens in business
As Malaysia moves towards the national aspiration of a high-income and developed
economy, the government will be facing the challenges of conflicting economic and
social objectives which are aimed to benefit the community generally. Good
regulations and good regulatory regime are necessary to achieve the balance. High
quality regulation is both effective in address an identifiable problem and efficient
in terms of minimizing unnecessary compliance and other costs imposed on the
community. The best regulations achieve their objectives and at the same time
deliver the greatest benefit to the community. By contrast, poor regulation may not
achieve its objectives and can impose unnecessary costs, impede innovation, or
create unnecessary barriers to trade, investment and economic efficiency. This
paper discusses the importance of best practice regulations with special reference
to reducing unnecessary regulatory burdens. This paper applies data from the
primary and secondary sources
Review of islamic law against execution of collateral auctions on islamic banking institutions in Aceh
This article discusses the review of Islamic law quoted from jurists’ opinion and legal experts on
the use of auction trading theory in collateral sale. Every financial transaction in Islamic banking
required a guarantee. It is intended to save bank funds if the customer defaults. Islamic banks,
based on constitutional act Number 4 of 1996 about underwriting rights, have the right to
confiscate the guarantees of customer who has reached the due date without intention to pay.
However, in the implementation, the bank cannot carry out the parate execution to make direct
sales. The banks must take long formal procedures to disburse funds from customer guarantees
and often meet various obstacles. This article will analyze normatively and empirically about the
bail auction guarantees implementation on Islamic banking in Aceh based on the Islamic law
concept from the Alquran, Hadith, and the scholars’ Ijma’. Although it still uses conventional
law, in the auction rules, the implementation of guarantees applied to Islamic banking has
adopted many Islamic laws. however, in the practice, there are still many problems arise from the
Islamic law scope which uphold the philosophy of maslahah and the concept of justice

Real earnings management practice in family group affiliated companies
Financial reporting quality of publicly owned companies still remains a serious
issue in most countries including Malaysia. Real earnings management (REM) is now
becoming a topic of concern in the corporate sector due to the increasing incidence of fraud
and accounting manipulations. However, to date, research on managing real earnings through
business group affiliation is still scarce and largely unexplored especially in developing
countries. Previous studies suggest that family group affiliation contribute to the earnings
manipulation. This is a major concern in Malaysia since more than fifty per cent of its publicly
own companies are dominated by family group businesses. This unique characteristic and the
limited research on REM provide the main justifications for this study. This article provides a
review of the literature on REM and highlights on the size and complex nature of familyaffiliated business groups in Malaysia. A model to examine the relationships between family
group affiliation and REM is then proposed to bridge the gap in earnings management
research. The study will cover a ten-year period (2006 until 2015) which coincides with
different economic conditions in Malaysia (i.e., economic boom, recession, recovery and
stabilization). These different environments may affect REM practices differently and the
findings are expected to provide new insight on REM behaviour of family affiliated companies
in different market conditions. Furthermore, the results may contribute to strengthening the
existing regulations and provide guidance on preventive strategies and controlling mechanism
in the capital market
