Intrinsic motivation in primary students with dyslexia in inclusive settings: A case study in Kubang Kerian
This qualitative case study intended to explore the intrinsic motivational experiences of primary students with Dyslexia in inclusive classroom settings within the lens of Self-determination Theory while adopting the Islamic perspective in understanding the human nature. Considering the students with Dyslexia as the unit of analysis, the sampling for this study is a purposive sampling. The participants of this study were three students with Dyslexia who studied in Year Four mainstream classrooms in a government-funded primary school in Kubang Kerian, Kelantan and two English Language teachers who taught them. The instruments used to collect the data were observation, semistructured interview, document analysis and memo. A few methods that were used to establish the trustworthiness of the study were, triangulation, member checking, peer review and audit trail. In observing confidentiality and ethics, the students’ parents gave their written permissions while the teachers signed the informed consent agreement. The findings were analyzed using the Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis with the assistance of Atlas.Ti, a computer-assisted qualitative data analysis software. The study suggests that the motivational needs of students with Dyslexia learning in mainstream classrooms were fulfilled by themselves in different levels and needs as explained in the concept of fitrah where man is endowed with innate inclination to have positive self-regard, appreciate limited freedom and responsibility in serving God and finally, to love and have trust. Secondly, the teaching methods of English Language teachers in the inclusive classes related were found to support the students’ autonomy. Finally, to conclude, primary students with Dyslexia have strengths to fulfil their own learning needs as explained in the Islamic concept of man’s purpose in life is to be a vicegerent of Allah and accordingly is endowed with variety of capacities and tendencies to be realized throughout their lives in their limited stay in this world
Corporate governance of open and distance learning (ODL) institutions: special reference to Open University Malaysia
Corporate governance refers to a system that controls the relationship between the
company (board of directors / director/ management team) and stakeholders. The
corporate failures of Enron, Arthur Andersen, Worldcom, Parmalat, Kirch, Grand
Tibidabo, Royal Dutch Shell and many others are claimed to be related to weak or
lack of corporate governance. In the private education industry, open and distance
learning (ODL) method have become increasingly popular. In Asia itself, there are
seven out of eleven mega universities (universities with over 100,000 active students
in degree-level courses) in the world. These include Allama Iqbal Open University,
Pakistan, Open University of China, Indira Gandhi National Open University,
Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University, Thailand, Universitas Terbuka,
Indonesia, and Korea National Open University. In Malaysia, ODL is also offered
by the private universities such as the Open University Malaysia (OUM), Wawasan
Open University (WOU), Universiti Tun Abdul Razak (UNIRAZAK) and Asia
eUniversity (AeU). Different from most of the public universities which are not a
body corporate, all ODL institutions in Malaysia are companies and therefore
subjected to good and proper corporate governance for sustainability of the
business. This paper examines the corporate structure of ODL institution with
special reference to OUM, which is the first ODL institution in Malaysia. The main
objective of this paper is to analyse the governance framework which is applicable to ODL institutions. The research methodologies adopted by this paper are
doctrinal and statutory analysis
Do political connections affect the performance of indonesian regional development banks?
This study was conducted with the aim of examining whether Regional Development
Banks (RDBs) in Indonesia which fall under the category as Government Linked Companies
(GLCs) can maintain their independence in performance when political relationships exists
between these GLCs and the government as the owner. Data for the study was obtained directly
from the official websites of 26 RDBs from the year 2013 to 2016. The collected data was
analyzed quantitatively using the Generalized Least Square (GLS) method. The results show
that political connections have no effect on the RDBs performance. This finding is consistent
with our previous research on RDBs which suggests that even though RDBs are government owned banks, the operations of RDBs remain independent and professiona
Service quality in Islamic banks: The role of PAKSERV model, customer satisfaction and customer loyalty
In service oriented industry, it is very difficult to set a standard rule to satisfy customers. As
customer awareness increases on the service offered by banks, expectation from services
quality increases too. Quality of a service in banking industry plays an essential role in
measuring the performance of banks. Thus, the present study examines the PAKSERV model
to measure customer satisfaction and customer loyalty of Islamic Banks in Palestine. A survey
method was adopted where data was collected from 482 respondents through structured
questionnaire. Structural equation model (SEM) was applied to check the hypothesis
relationship between proposed constructs. Statistical finding revealed that PAKSERV model
had significant impact on customer satisfaction and customer loyalty in Islamic banks of
Palestine. Results also revealed that in cultural context PAKSERV model was the most
appropriate scale and had predictive power of service quality in banking industry of Palestine.
The findings of this study will be helpful for managers and policy makers to improve the
service quality in Islamic banks of Palestin
THE BEHAVIOR OF SOLAR WIND PARAMETERS AND GEOMAGNETIC ACTIVITY INDICES FOR GEOMAGNETICALLY INDUCED CURRENT OBSERVATIONS
The main objective of the current work is to investigate the behavior of space weather parameter as well as geomagnetic activity indices to observe the Geomagnetically Induced Current (GIC). Subsequently, solar wind parameter and geomagnetic activity indic an evidence that GIC formed during quiet days. The result revealed that the solar wind parameter and geomagnetic activity indices reflect the GIC. However, the solar wind parameter gave the best representation on GI
THE INFLUENCE OF SOLAR RADIATION ON RADIO SIGNAL AT UHF BAND
One of the common threats to earth-space communication is the data losss, which is possibly caused by weather factors. In this paper, the effect of solar radiation on radio signal at ultra-high frequency (UHF) band is investigated. The average radio frequencies found at UHF band were 382.5 MHz, 945.0 MHz, 1800.0 MHz, 1867.5 MHz and 2137.5 MHz. The variation of all prominent peaks begins during sunrise and sunset, where all most of the prominent peaks show weak signal strength during the daytime compared during the night time. We can conclude that the radio signals were depending on the presence of solar radiation and the level of solar radiation measured during daytime and night time as solar radiation measured differently as 376.0246 W/m 2 and 428.9846 W/m 2 during 26 th July and 27 th July respectively
