    No full text
Nowadays, social media has influenced in every aspect of teenagers’ life; either by uploading photos on Instagram, expressing feelings on Twitter or deliberately triggering phenomenon on Facebook. But do social media make the teenagers consider about themselves? How do they feel? Whether it affects their mental and physical or leads to their low self-esteem? Due to the concerns, it is necessary to examine whether the use of social media influences their level of selfesteem. This paper aims to examine the negative impact of social media on the self-esteem of the secondary school students. This study was conducted in the area of Seberang Perai, Pulau Pinang. The researcher took three months to obtain the findings which are between August and October. The questionnaire was distributed to 305 students (130 males and 175 females). Data were collected and analyzed using the simple percentage method. The findings show that secondary school students will be distressed if they do not receive the desired ‘likes’ by their followers after they uploaded their pictures. The students disagree that they will take a positive attitude towards themselves. Majority of the students agree that they are uncomfortable with themselves at certain times and this leads them to think that they are not good at all. From the study conducted, it can be concluded that majority of the students have low self-esteem when uploading pictures, writing status and sharing videos on social media. They tend to feel uneasy if they do not receive the ‘likes’ for their postings on social media. The students also denied that they would take a positive attitude towards themselves when receiving negative comments from the followers. Due to this matter, they feel that they do not have a good impression of the public. After all, it can be deduced that the use of social media leads to the students’ low self-esteem

Pomegranate is one of the oldest tropical and subtropical edible fruits. Keeping in view of its rich in constituents and antioxidants, it has been studied scientifically and its uses have been verified. Currently, some compounds in pomegranate have been proven to induce cognitive improvements, related signaling in managing withdrawal symptoms. The present study investigated the characterization of anthocyanin from the pomegranate extract towards non-opioid substitution therapy in in vitro and in vivo studies. Anthocyanin was analyzed from pomegranate extract using high-performance liquid chromatography. The MORs and cAMP levels in the cells were determined using ELISA Kit from Cusabio Biotech and Cell Biolabs. The memory impairment in male Sprague-Dawley rats was determined using Morris water maze method. Then, the CREB and BDNF levels in serum rats were determined using ELISA Kit Abcam and Cell Signaling Technology. The water extract resulted in the highest contained of anthocyanin. The extract then was used for co-treatment for in vitro and in vivo studies. Co-treatment of morphine and pomegranate extract significantly reduced the production of cAMP level at lower concentration (p < 0.05). In memory impairment test, treatment group significantly reduced the distance and time latency compared to morphine group (p < 0.05). This is in correlation with levels of CREB and BDNF that were also significantly higher than morphine group (p < 0.05). These findings suggest that anthocyanin had potency as non-opioid substitution therapy that could reduce the dependence and withdrawal effects on chronic morphine treatment. As per knowledge, this is the first finding of using pomegranate extract in opioid treatment

This paper concentrated on was the art of symbolism and allegory in the works of Hawthorne. The paper introduced the two characters as symbolic characters in relation to the symbolic world where they lived. The two ministers were associated with two of the most important symbols in the American literature, the scarlet letter and the black veil. Many interpretations were presented to unveil the ambiguity of the two characters and their emblems. But most of these interpretations revolved in the orbit of the secret sin and the act of repentance or redemption after committing the sin. The scarlet letter and the black veil along with their owners introduced to the readers - as mentioned in the course of the paper - the facts of the incorrectness and duality in the personality of the puritans and the people in general The paper came as a sole effort to introduce two of the greatest works in the history of the American literature The Scarlet Letter and The Minister's Black Veil. The two works played a significant role in projecting truthfully the history of the puritans and their communities in the puritanical New England. The paper attempted also to elevate the reader to the level of symbolism and allegory in the works of Hawthorne and to clarify the ambiguity which associated the two ministers in these works. it is honestly hoped that the paper will present the two works in the most appropriate way and depict to the reader the greatness of Hawthorne as a novelist and a short story writer in the most worthy way

The present study was conducted to isolate beneficial bacteria with nitrogen fixing potential from the rhizosphere of Acacia mangium plant. The plant grows wildly on the untouched area of problematic BRIS soil in Tembila, Terengganu. A total of 24 bacterial isolates were successfully sequestered from the soil samples using the Burk’s nitrogen free medium. Based on the preliminary morphology screening, eight bacterial isolates were selected and their morphological and biochemical characteristics were recorded. Three bacterial isolates namely UA1, UA6 and UAA2 were selected as final species for antibiotic sensitivity test and Acetylene Reduction Assay (ARA). All three bacterial isolates showed a high amount of nitrogenase activity in ARA with UA6 produced the highest and significant amount of ethylene with 18.55 nmolC2H4mL-1h-1. UA1 and UAA2 showed almost similar amount of ethylene with 17.10 and 17.00 nmolC2H4mL-1h-1 respectively. The isolated bacteria characteristics through all the test showed that these bacteria have potential to be explore for biofertilizer production industry
