Northeast monsoon effect on ultra high frequency (UHF) signal attenuation at Kusza observatory
Northeast (NE) monsoon season in Malaysia was developed due to conjunction
with cold air outbreaks from Siberia produce heavy rains, strong wind, and high humidity.
This weather condition can affect the radio signal transmission which is crucial to spectrum
user. This work investigates the effect of the wet season due to Northeast season on radio signal
power within Ultra High Frequency (UHF) band at KUSZA Observatory (KO). Three of weather
parameters (wind speed, humidity and rain rate) was considered with the radio signal variation.
Measurement of these weather parameters and radio signal power level (dBm) were collected
using weather station and spectrum analyzer respectively. From the result obtained, we found
that wind speed played a role in radio signal attenuation indirectly. The combination of wind
speed (km/h) along with high humidity (%) and rain rate(mm/s) during NE monsoon season
have given a significant impact to a radio signal. These findings is useful to radio astronomer
to determine the best period for radio astronomical observation with minimum interference
considering weather condition. This study will also beneficial to spectrum user such as mobile
telecommunication, wireless internet and radio broadcasting in managing and improving their
services
Causal relationship between oral performance and communication apprehension
This study investigates the causal relationship between the form students who have passed in School-Based Oral
Evaluation (SBOE) with communication apprehension. The participants are 302 of form four male and female students
from the government secondary schools in Putrajaya Federal Territory, Malaysia. The purpose of this study is to
determine the effectiveness of SBOE and its relationship with communication apprehension. This study is an
explanatory sequential mixed method design in which quantitative and qualitative [11] data were collected in
sequential, analyzed separately, and then explained. The quantitative data were collected by using FLCAS, SBOE
results and the qualitative data were collected from the semi-structured interviews with the English teachers. The
quantitative data were analysed by descriptive analysis (SPSS) and the qualitative data were analysed by content
analysis. The results revealed that the students had scored high results in SBOE in the mid-term examination 2017.
The findings from the quantitative and qualitative methods showed that students experience low level of
communication apprehension. High oral performance affects communication apprehension. This study recommends
a new oral-based English curriculum for the secondary schools
Art as a vehicle for social change: The harlem renaissance
The black gatherings particularly in Harlem, constituting a community with its peculiarities, thanks to the effective
contributions of intellectuals and artists through a new movement called the Harlem Renaissance urging the Blacks to
struggle peacefully to gain more rights. For about thirty years, African Americans used arts in their battle to dispel
common stereotypes. The origins of the movement were articulated in the philosophies of some prominent figures
like W. E. Dubois and Allen Locke. The black community is a reality within the U.S.A, no one can deny its rights and this
thanks to the struggles it has led, and to artistic contribution which has made the USA a nation with specificities,
different from white man's country of origin. It sheds light also on the work of Toni Morrison's Song of Solomon to
stress the continuing heritage of the Harlem. A descriptive analytical analysis based on Cultural pluralism and
Americanism concepts of Franz Boas' theories of race and culture (1930) is used in this research. The aim of the study
is to show the role the elites can play to improve their communities' status and the importance of art in shaping
identities and giving insights for a better future. The Harlem Renaissance established the careers of many important
African American writers, artists and thinkers who were influential for decades. It brought forth a body of creative
cultural work that have become classics in African American and American culture. It created an ongoing interest in
African American culture that continues up to this day
Students feedback on the new task-based logbook used in family medicine posting in Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin, Terengganu, Malaysia
Background: The typical logbook used in undergraduate medical programme usually records
the cases seen and clinical procedures done by medical students. For the 2017/2018 session, a
new task-based logbook was used to replace the old logbook which only records patients’
clinical summary. There were 17 tasks which covered common problems in primary care. It
included patient’s summary and related questions on the areas of chronic disease, women’s
health, child health and preventive care. Students were expected to find the selected problems
and answer the questions. At the end of the posting, a short VIVA was done based on the
logbook. This short survey was to assess the students’ feedback on the new task-based
logbook to assist learning during family medicine posting.
Method: At the end of the posting, feedback was obtained regarding the new logbook. There
were 4 questions; 1. It was useful to guide students, 2. It was more effective to help learn
theoretical knowledge, 3. It was more effective to help learn clinical skills and 4. It was time
consuming to complete. The response was in the form of scale from 1 to 5, from ‘strongly
disagree’ to ‘strongly agree’. Data was analysed for mean and standard deviation.
Results: By December 2017, half of year 4 students have done family medicine posting.
Response rate was 85% (25/29). The mean (SD) for questions 1,2,3 and 4 were 4.32 (0.90),
4.44 (0.92), 4.36 (0.81) and 3.84 (0.99) respectively.
Conclusion: Students perceived that the new logbook is useful and more effective in guiding
them to learn family medicine than the old logbook. However, it is time consuming to complete.
The logbook may need to be improved to suit medical students’ time
Locus of control and association with emotional stability among the medical students
Locus of Control refers to the extent to which people feel that they have control over the events that influence their lives. It has been realized that internal locus of control goes hand in hand with emotional stability. Current study aims at finding out the association between internal locus of control and emotional stability among the medical students. This was a cross-sectional study carried out on medical students of University Sultan Zainal Abidin; the participants were 100 included preclinical and clinical medical students of Year I to Year V of academic session 201712018 selected by using simple random sampling technique. Data were collected using levenson's Locus of Control scale and Eysanck personality inventory to study the association between Locus of Control and emotional stability. The data was statistically analyzed using SPSS Version 21. Out of 124 participants 100 students responded adequately among these respondents 34% (34) and 66% (66) were males and females, respectively. Pearson Correlation test showed significant association between internal locus of control and emotional stability is at the 0.01 level (2-tailed). The emotional stability was coeficient with locus of control. Internal locus of control found with -.910 in the lower bound and -.730 in the upper bound. Medical schools should make effort for realizing the significance of internal locus of control since it has its close association with emotional stability. These insights may be helpful in promoting healthiness in budding doctors. And also scope for related studies such as changing locus external to internal

Social and environmental accounting disclosure: a review of recent literature
Sustainability accounting or so-called social, environmental and economic accounting
has received increasing attention in recent years from researchers, communities, governments and
investors. This is consistent with the growing demand and sensitivity of all stakeholders in
understanding how companies plan and manage the sustainability issues in their operations. The
literature on accounting disclosure is very rich and addresses a wide range of disclosure related
issues such as corporate practices in disclosure, type and level of disclosure, as well as factors
affecting disclosure. Many studies have focused on determining which factors contribute to
influence the disclosure level and they can be grouped into three categories. The first group
examine the characteristics of companies, the second group studies the governance attributes and
the third group looks at the ownership structure of companies as determinants of social and
environmental accounting disclosure. The purpose of this article is to review very recent studies
and examine the consistencies in findings of the factors affecting the disclosures in different
countries, and business sectors. The results reveal a number of similarities as well as differences
in the research findings of these most recent works. The present study contributes to the existing
literature by highlighting the complexity of the accounting disclosure issues in corporate reporting
and provides a direction for future research on corporate sustainability reporting
