Views of instructors towards students learning english public speaking at a malaysian university
Public speaking was one of the most feared situations faced by many people, including
public speaking in the English language. Speaking English in front of the public was
really a daunting task for many people, including students of universities. This study
addressed issues related to English public speaking at the university from the views of
instructors who taught the English public speaking course. Some topics discussed were
the common weaknesses of university students in delivering English public speaking,
the causes of the weaknesses and some recommendations for students to improve
their English public speaking. This was a qualitative research design where eleven
instructors teaching English public speaking were interviewed and the gathered data
were analyzed using thematic analysis and presented using Atlas. ti version 7. One of
the theories employed in the study was the Uncertainty Reduction Theory that made
their anxiety level increase. The study revealed that some common weaknesses of
students were lack of confidence, limited vocabulary and grammar. Some contributing
causes of the weaknesses were lack of reading, lack of ideas, and lack of self-esteem.
Some recommendations were then forwarded to solve the problems such as giving
the motivation to the students to speak, read and think in the English language and
make a lot of practices
Bioactive compounds in Cucumis melo L. and its beneficial health effects: a scoping review
Cucumis melo L.. especially its seeds and peels, possesses numerous medicinal and nutritive functions due to the rich sources of biological moist compounds it contains. However, the processing of Cucumis melo L. can generate a huge amount of by-products that can threaten the environment. This study aims to explore the bioactive compounds present in different melon parts and the fruit's beneficial health effects. A methodological framework proposed by Arksey and O'Malley was used to conduct the scoping review. An electronic database search for English academic articles was conducted using PubMed, Scopus and ScienceDirect encompassing yeah between 1999 and 2019. All types of studies excluding systematic review or review papers were eligible for inclusion. Out of 602 studies identified. a total of 18 studies were included. Both Cucumis melo L.., peels and seeds were rich in phenolic compounds. The seed oil contained rich sources of tocopherols, while B-carotene ands vitamin C were found in the flesh. In addition. the main beneficial health effects included antioxidant. anti-Inflammatory, anti-ulcer. anti-angiogenic, anti-diabetic. anti-bacterial and anti-hypothyroidisim activities which were attributable to the presence of bioactive compounds. In summary, Cucumis melo L., particularly its by-products (i.e. seed. and peel), exhibited various health benefits. This was indicative of the potential of incorporating these by -products into various food and nutraceutical applications to create novel functional food or dietary supplements
Analysis of Individual Factors on Employees’ Perception towards Safety Culture in the Malaysian Manufacturing Industry
The manufacturing industry has now become one of the most hazardous industries worldwide. Workplace safety
remains a field of interest in the manufacturing industry due to the increasing number of accidents in the workplace. Higher number
in workplace accidents in this industry has lead to the question of whether the employers commit enough care to the employees’
safety and health in striving to optimize productivity. The objective of this paper is to measure whether there is a significant
difference between individual factors towards manufacturing employees’ view regarding safety culture. The target respondents were
employees working in the manufacturing industry in Peninsular Malaysia. The quantitative method was applied in this study. The
data collected were analyzed using IBM-SPSS Statistics. This study showed that different individual factors are essential in
determining safety culture at the workplace. Everyone should be accountable for the prevention of injury at work or for the care of
those affected, directly or indirectly. Occupational safety and health (OSH) requires everyone in the workplace to be involved,
including employers, employees, their families and the government, to cooperate as a community with the common interest of better
prevention and care

The era of artificial intelligence in malaysian higher education: impact and challenges in tangible mixed-reality learning system toward self exploration education (SEE)
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is the creation of a smart machine that has human behaviour and response. AI in the education sector
is able to interact, assist, and guide students through Self-Exploration Education (SEE) in Self Determined Learning (SDL) or
Heutagogical technique, such as current, but semi-automatic learning systems. Malaysian higher education institutions are forced
to adapt to such a radical change in order to stay competitive and fulfill their stakeholder needs. Everyone is born as a genius,
with curiosity to explore the environment through experiments. This study examines the effect of SDL on SEE in Tangible
Mixed-Reality Learning System until 2030. It does that under two different lenses: First, the effect on the value proposition and
the business models of the SDL. Second, it identifies hurdles for the implementation and draws strategic implications for the SDL
Tangible Mixed-Reality Learning System. However, in practice, SEE is still very much focused on spreading facts rather than
encouraging personal exploration. Conducting exploration of learning in the classroom can be complicated for adult learning or
andragogy and is limited by virtue, money and work infrastructure. But what if we can create a middle ground between learning
and fiction, the world in which adults learn and explore in ways that may be impossible in real life but still true to the transfer of
knowledge? The project is to craft an imaginative and accessible tool to help adults develop scientific minds and practices
through self-exploration or Do-it-yourself DIY with a mixed reality learning system that empowers adults to know the invisible
and investigate hard through exploration. By 2030 the likeliest scenario is that fully Self-Exploration is solely available for
particularly high-value use cases, affecting the value proposition toward provision of education services, an increase of
stakeholder and value-centric value propositions fostered by continuous interactions between the Heutagogical technique and the
stakeholder
The effect of photomultiplier tube glass entrance window on plastic scintillator case sheet photon dosimetry: a monte carlo study
Plastic scintillators are commonly used for medical dosimetry due to the density
and effective atomic numbers that are closer to human soft tissue. When a photomultiplier tube
(PMT) is used with a thin scintillator, reflected photon and electrons as a result of Compton
scattering either inside the scintillator or PMT entrance window, might contribute to a
significant source of additional absorbed dose. Monte Carlo simulation was used to study the
effect of different PMT window materials on the absorbed dose of a 0.5 mm plastic scintillator
cast sheet for parallel photon beam energy up to 1 MeV. The additional dose in the plastic
scintillator from 400 keV to 1 MeV due to sapphire and LiF glass are increases from 11 % to
47 % and 8 % to 31 %, respectively. Despite of the lower density of Quartz among other
materials, Quartz and MgF2 demonstrate almost similar trends of additional dose throughout the
energies, which is closer to the sapphire. This may due to relatively low effective atomic
number and density of LiF, and hence producing less reflected dose. To reduce the unexpected
additional dose, a plastic scintillator with a considerable thickness of a PMT window should be
adopted for the ‘soft-tissue’ dose response

Fat versus Lean Mass Ratio: A New Anthropometric Indicator in Predicting Metabolic Syndrome Among UniSZA Malay Students
This study aimed to address the literature gap on the interactive effect of fat mass (FM) and
lean body mass (LBM) by developing a cut-off value for fat versus lean mass ratio (FLMR)
in predicting MS; and to investigate the association between this indicator with MS and its
components. Subjects comprised 238 Malay adolescents (?% male, ?% female) aged 18 to 19
years old. Anthropometric comprised weight, height and wasit circumference. Body
composition was measured using bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) techniques and
blood pressure was measured. Fasting blood glucose (FBG), total cholesterol (TC),
triglycerides (TG), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-c), low-density
lipoproteincholesterol (LDL-c) were determined from an overnight fasting blood sample. MS
was diagnosed based on IDF (2007) definition for adolescents aged 16-year-old and above.
Receiver Operating Characteristics (ROC) curve analysis revealed that the optimal cut-off
value for FLMR was 0.441 with AUC of 0.874 (95% CI: 0.825, 0.913). FLMR were
significantly associated with high WC (p<0.001), low HDL-c (p<0.001) and MS (p<0.05).
However, there were no significant association between hypertension, hyperglycaemia and
hypertriglyceridemia with FLMR. Binary Logistic Regression analysis revealed that
adolescents with high WC, low HDL-c and MS, respectively had 43.4 (95% CI: 9.7,193.9),
4.7 (95% CI: 2.3,9.8) and 13.3 (95% CI: 1.5,121.2) odds of developing FLMR higher than
cut-off value. In conclusion, FLMR possess good discriminatory ability in predicting MS
among adolescents. Significant association exists between FLMR with MS and some of its
components. Intervention programme is needed urgently to reduce the level of body
adiposity among UniSZA Malay students
Single-sided magnetic particle imaging using perimag magnetic nanoparticles
This paper presents the design of a simple, low cost single-sided magnetic particle imaging (MPI) scanner with
Perimag magnetic nanoparticles employed as tracer material. The electromagnetic coils of the developed scanner were
designed in the form of the solenoid to combat the cost and sensitivity limitation of the Helmholtz coil arrangement
which reduces the image resolution. Liquid and immobilised Perimag nanoparticles samples were exposed to the
superimposed magnetic field generated by the excitation and selection field coils at the field-free point. The
nanoparticles (MNPs) responded with a non-linear magnetization, which is recorded in the form of a voltage signal by
a gradiometer pickup coil. The second-harmonic component of the recorded signal is extracted by a resonant circuit
and logged into the computer. Contour images of the MNPs distribution were obtained via solving the ill-posed
image reconstruction equation using the Kaczmarz method, with the system matrix determined using model-based
approach. The contour maps for one sample imaging revealed the position, shape, and size of the Perimag MNPs
samples in the XY-plane at distance of 10 mm, 20 mm, 25 mm and 30 mm under the pickup coil. However, the results
of two samples imaging indicated constructive interference effects, as the two samples cannot be distinguished at 20
mm below the pickup coil. The developed scanner has a spatial resolution of less than 1 mm and 42.1 ms image
acquisition time. Thus, the outcome of this research showed that the developed single-side MPI scanner has a
potential in the detection of MNPs, which could help in sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) for breast cancer
