    No full text
Mudarabah refers to a partnership investment where rabb-ul-mal (financial provider) provides fund to mudarib (entrepreneur) so that the latter may invest the fund in profitable commercial joint-ventures or economic enterprises. Mudarabah products are very significant and offered by almost all Islamic financial institutions. This kind of partnership-investment product is yet to be included as major instrument to be implemented under poverty alleviation programs. Historically, poverty mitigation schemes have been implemented since the birth of independence in Nigeria. Late discovery of Islamic banking concept and products across the nation imparted several challenges on the economy of the country. Different programs had been introduced with the goal of reducing poverty in Nigeria, but none of them showed significant success. Thus, this paper aims at adopting mudarabah instrument into the existing schemes with the hope that poverty will be significantly reduced amid the society. The paper is a qualitative-based research. It uses various documents and content analysis approach to understand and analyse the process of incorporating mudarabah instrument into poverty alleviation programs across the country. Findings showed that the agenda of reducing poverty are achievable if financial institutions and depositors can give their full cooperation on one edge, and proffer their maximum support in incorporating mudarabah instrument on the other. In the light of this, this paper proposes that mudharabah, which is essentially a profit-sharing contract of Islamic banking, should be extended to the ordinary people so that they will become independent in their sustenance. Also, with the implementation of this free-interest mechanism, rich people will be relieved from direct extreme demands with no ideas and projects. Therefore, with a view of moving the country forward economically, people just need to overlook any religion propagating an idea and concentrate on the benefits the instrument will result in after its implementation

The competitive situation and challenges within the tourism industry worldwide entailed a better understanding of destination loyalty’s determinants in achieving Malaysia’s aspiration to retain its international reputation as one of the most desirable tourist destinations in Asia. Literature proved that factors such as perceived value, service quality and tourist satisfaction could influence in improving destination loyalty. In view of this, there is a need to examine the influence of several constructs namely perceived value, service quality and tourist satisfaction that can contribute to the loyalty of international tourists towards Malaysia as it was suggested in the literature review. Therefore, the main objectives of this study were to examine the influence of perceived value and service quality on tourist satisfaction, which in turn would influence destination loyalty. In this study, tourist satisfaction was treated as the mediating variable. The proposed model was tested using structural equation modeling on a sample of 337 foreign tourists selected using random sampling method. The study was conducted from August 2014 to October 2014. The proposed model achieved acceptable goodness-of-fit. The requirements for reliability and validity were also met. The results of the empirical study indicated that perceived value influenced tourist satisfaction and destination loyalty. In addition, the findings revealed that service quality had a significant effect on satisfaction. However, service quality had no significant effect on destination loyalty. Moreover, the findings indicated that tourist satisfaction had a full mediating effect on the relationship between service quality and destination loyalty. The study contributed to a better understanding of behavioral factors that would represent a sustainable source for increasing customer retention at the level of individual providers as well as a destination as a whole. Individual providers should focus on delivering quality services related to accommodation, information and facilities, health and hygiene, and shopping that were associated with the visitor’s travel experience. Aspects of perceived value identified in the study could be used as a strategic tool in managing tourism offerings which could enhance the destination’s competitive edge

Integrated Reporting is now trending in advanced countries but in Malaysia, it is still a voluntary practice. The new reporting approach was introduced to overcome the weaknesses in sustainability reporting. This is achieved by including non-financial information in the integrated reporting. Many challenges come with the integrated reporting implementation and one of them is related to the efficiency of Accounting Information System (AIS). To improve the public sector reporting quality, investment in AIS has been given the highest priority by the Malaysian government. An electronic system known as ePBT was introduced and adopted by the local authorities to address the reporting issues. In the Malaysian local authorities, reporting quality is still an on-going problem and deserves a proper study. This study discusses the level of ePBT adoption and its weaknesses. Challenges to the implementation of integrated reporting at the local authorities were also presented. A qualitative approach using face-to-face interviews was adopted in order to obtain primary data from the users of the ePBT system. The sample consists of six selected local authorities and each of them was represented by an accountant or assistant accountant. Semi-structured questions were used during the interviews. The results show that only 50 per cent of the respondents have implemented the ePBT system. Two major weaknesses of the ePBT system were identified namely, lack of financial support and low level of technical skill for system integration. This study highlights issues for local authorities to consider in its future implementation of the new integrated reporting

Methods: This is a cross-sectional community study involving 349 eligible residents aged 15 years and above in Kampung Gong Penaga sub-urban village in Kuala Terengganu, Malaysia. Data were obtained via face-to-face interviews using a standardized, self-administered questionnaire. Multiple logistics regression with forwarding likelihood ratio method was applied to explore the factors associated with the prevalence of smoking among the respondents. Results: The overall prevalence of smoking was 27.2% (95% CI: 22.5, 31.9). The respondents’ knowledge score was ranged from 14 to 57 with mean score of 47.15 (6.89) meanwhile the attitude score was ranged from 50 to 133 with mean score of 102.13 (11.93) regarding tobacco smoking and its effect on health issues. Multiple logistic regression analysis revealed being male (p <0.001), being employed (p =0.025), having smokers in the family (p =0.002), having colleague or friend smokers (p <0.001) and total attitude score were found to be significant associated with prevalence of smoking among the respondents. Conclusions: The prevalence of smoking among Malaysians aged 15 years and over, remains high despite the implementation of several anti-smoking measures over the past decades. Tobacco smoking and its effect on health among Malaysian residents were directly influenced by overall attitude and their peers and their family smoking behaviours.
