Effects of Gender on Lactate and Fatigue During Resistance Training
No full textThe purpose of this study was to examine gender differences in performance, lactate response, and perceived fatigue during resistance training. Fourteen participants (7 male, 7 female) completed a warm-up, a one-repetition maximum (1RM) test, and four sets to failure of squat and bench press at 75% of 1RM. Blood lactate, squat jump performance, and self-reported focus, energy, fatigue, motivation, and enjoyment were measured at multiple time points. Results showed no significant gender difference in squat performance or perceived exertion; however, males completed significantly more bench press repetitions than females. Males also exhibited higher blood lactate concentrations and greater reported fatigue. Additionally, squat jump performance declined only in males. These findings suggest that men may experience greater physiological and perceptual fatigue during resistance training. Understanding these differences can help guide individualized training and recovery strategies to optimize performance across genders

No full textGrace Maccarelli and Fabienne baking tarte à la rhubarbe in the kitchen. Fabienne is a French native, who hospitably welcomed me for a weekend in the countryside. Here are three hallmarks of a French home in the countryside: a garden in the backyard, cooking with seasonal ingredients, and always leaving room for dessert! The tarte seen here was made with rhubarb stalks that we snipped straight from the garden.

Le Kabary et le Fokonolona au Grand Écran
No full textThe cultural elements of kabary and fokonolona have played varying roles in Malagasy society and history. Once appropriated by the forces of colonization, these elements today occupy a liminal space in Malagasy culture but undoubtedly represent parts of the island’s heritage. In this project I argue that film can be seen as a new kind of kabary wherein Malagasy films become the cultural expressions themselves not only through their representations of the essential elements of the kabary, but by their inherent tendencies towards social, political, and environmental activism. The community that these filmmakers create represents a modernization of the traditional form of local governance called the fokonolona, with their individual works acting as contributions to the discussions that the fokonolona fosters
