Untitled Book Stack
This book stack was created by a first-year student at Ursinus College participating in a Common Intellectual Experience event. After a group Stacks on Stacks activity in Fall 2024, students were invited to submit their own individual creations in Spring 2025.https://digitalcommons.ursinus.edu/cie_stacks/1088/thumbnail.jp

There\u27s a Method to This Physics Madness
Physics tends to be seen by the general public as scary and unattainable, especially for students who are non-STEM majors. However, at Ursinus College (as well as many other institutions) the professors employ the use of specific problem-solving strategy instruction to mitigate these fears and further general problem solving skills. This study reviews previous experiments evaluating the merit of this strategy and analyzes its results as it relates to Physics on Screen, a physics class at Ursinus geared specifically towards non-majors
Investigation Into New Organic-Based Compositions of Glass
This research explores the development of novel organic-based glass compositions, focusing on optimizing melting and heat treatment protocols to enhance material properties. By refining thermal processing techniques, we aim to improve the homogeneity and stability of these glasses. Characterization methods, including density measurements, optical transmission analysis, and thermal history evaluation, are employed to assess structural integrity and functional performance. The study provides insights into the feasibility of organic components in glass manufacturing, paving the way for advanced applications in optical and functional materials
Developing Model Systems to Study Enveloped Viral Pathogens
This project studied the effects of PEG-conjugated single-wall carbon nanotubes on the infectious process of the bacteriophage Phi6 on its host, Pseudomonas syringae. Moreover, after observations that carbon nanotubes strongly inhibit the growth of P. syringae, the project also focused on cabon nanotubes’ interactions with other Pseudomonas species, to better understand the inhibition mechanism of the nanotubes on P. syringae bacteria
