Effects of Prozac on Voluntary Wheel Running in Mice
Approximately 13% of adults in the US are prescribed antidepressant medications. Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRIs) are one of the most commonly prescribed antidepressant medications, with fluoxetine (i.e., Prozac) being one of the most well-known. Previous literature has established some interesting yet inconclusive findings with SSRI use on exercise performance and skeletal muscle including enhanced fatigue, decreased muscle weight, and enhanced substrate and mitochondrial metabolism. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of oral administration of fluoxetine on physical activity in mice
The Silent Identity: Asexuality, Aromanticism, and Convention in Le Roman de Silence and The Story of Silence
Le Roman de Silence is a 13th-century French romance about Silence, a woman raised as a man to protect their family’s inheritance. Heldris of Cornwall, the author, develops a rich inner world to help the audience connect with Silence, allowing them to experiment with gendered, sexual, and romantic boundaries. This romance intrigues modern scholars, especially feminist and queer researchers due to narrative pressure on conventions like gender and sex. In 2020, Alex Myers, a transgender author, updates Silence’s tale in The Story of Silence, where Silence explores their identity in greater detail. Silence eventually identifies themselves as non-binary and refuses marriage to the King, living instead as a knight with no romantic ties. This project builds upon Silence’s refusal to conform to gender, sexual, and romantic conventions. Ultimately, I argue for a reading of Silence that is both aromantic and asexual, despite some complications posed by Myers’ alterations to the original romance. While most readings acknowledge Silence’s transgender or non-binary identity, reading Silence as aromantic and asexual further highlights their desire to exist outside of social barriers and suggests a fluidity in all aspects of Silence’s character, not solely in reference to gender
The Effects of Athletic Culture on Intersectional Identities in Higher Education
Athletic culture thrives on a basis of oneness that habituates spaces designed for athletes. Unfortunately, the concept of unity employed within athletic settings disregards intersecting identities that shape how many student-athletes navigate their lives, allowing biases to go unchecked and harmful rhetoric to permeate formerly safe environments. This project will investigate the experiences of student-athletes in higher education to uncover the environments curated by teams, individuals, coaches, and academic advisors. Moreover, focusing on institutions with dominant group demographics will help identify the pervasiveness of oppression and illuminate the stories of students who are often overlooked

Pacific Surfliner Train 765 Los Angeles to Ventura (One-Way): 10:33 AM (Covers)
These are a selection of photos taken out of the train window from the 2-hour journey between LA and Ventura, California. The series ends up showing the changes and similarities in landscape and culture between stops - going from a city area to suburbia to agricultural areas to the ocean, but having graffiti, palm trees, washes, desert, and warm tan tones be consistent. I took around 400 photos on this trip, not paying attention to framing or lighting, just looking out the window and capturing whatever caught my eye.
