The Fekete-Szegö theorem for a certain class of analytic functions

    No full text
In this paper, we discuss a well known class studied by many authors including Ramesha et al. and Janteng, few to mention. Next, we extend the class to a wider class of functions f denoted by , which are normalized and univalent, in the open unit disk D={z:|z|<1} satisfying the condition: where g ∈ S* (b),g(z) ≠ 0 is a normalized starlike function of order b, for 0 ≤ b < 1. For f ∈ we shall obtain sharp upper bounds for the Fekete-Szegö functional |a3 – μ | when μ is real

Effect of plasma power and flow rate of silane gas on diameter of silicon nanowires grown by plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition

    No full text
Silicon nanowires (SiNWs) have been synthesized by plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD) at different power for generation of plasma and different flow rate of silane gas. Silane (10% SiH4 in Ar) gas with flow rate ranging between 6-15 standard cubic centimeter per minute(sccm) were employed as the source and gold colloid as the catalyst. A p-type Si (100) wafer was used as substrate in this experiment and the substrate’s temperature was 370°C.The plasma power range was 12-17 watts. The grown silicon nanowires were analyzed using field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX). FESEM results show that some silicon nanowires are cone like and some of them are cylindrical. The EDX result revealed that the existence of silicon and oxygen elements in the nanowires. The silicon nanowires obtained have different diameters and lengths and the SiNWs consist of silicon core which are surrounded by oxide sheath. It has been found that the plasma power and flow rate of the silane gas influence the size of silicon nananowires growth by PECVD. The diameter of wires decreased from 140 nm to 80 nm averagely when plasma power was increased from 12 to 17 watts. The diameter also increased about 90 nm to 150 nm when the flow rate of silane gas is increased from 6 to 15 scc

Magnetization and electronic structure of FeAs layered material

Magnetic induction in the superconductor (B=H +4πM) in the zero field cooled samples (ZFC) is not equal to zero. Depending upon the chemical environment it has negative value in some and positive values in some others. In the field cooled samples, the magnetization becomes paramagnetic. We have calculated the band structure of one layer of FeAs lattice with spin polarized as well as unpolarized orbitals as a function of doping by Li atoms. For n number of Li atoms (n=0, 1,…, 4), we calculated the band gap at all of the k-points as well as the Fermi energy. The reduced normal state gap was found to lead to superconductivity

Survivin expression in uterine cervical exfoliative cells as diagnostic test of cervical malignancy process

    No full text
Papanicolaou test is a diagnostic test for uterine cervical cancer screening and routinely examined. It has limitations. A better technique is needed to identify true cervical malignancy process. Molecular cancer marker detection may have high the sensitivity and specificity in detecting cancer. Survivin, a marker candidate, is upregulated in many malignancy processes. Ninety women have joined in this cross sectional study by consecutive sampling. Survivin expression was examined by indirect immunoperoxidase method. It was predominantly found in metaplastic cells. Correlation between survivin expression and Papanicolaou test results was calculated by Fischer’s-exact test. Using Papanicolaou test result as an indicator for the presence of uterine cervical abnormalities, the performance indicators were calculated. Fischer’s-exact test showed that survivin expression was not significantly useful as cervical cancer molecular marker. Survivin expression of the uterine cervical exfoliative cells cannot be used as a diagnostic test for uterine cervical malignancy process

Allicin-induced cellular destruction of haemoflagellate protozoa, trypanosoma evansi in mice

Allicin or diallyl thiosulfinate (C3H5SS(O)C3H5), an active compound of garlic (Allium sativum) is known for its pharmaceutical properties. In this study, the cellular destructive effects of allicin on a haemoflagellate protozoa parasite Trypanosoma evansi was investigated. Groups of male ICR mice were infected with a lethal dose of the parasite (1×105 parasites per mouse) and each group was either treated intraperitoneally with berenil (0.01 mL per mouse, a commercial anti-trypanosomal drug) on D+3 post-infection as the positive control group, treated orally with allicin (0.1 mL of 15 μg/mL allicin solution per mouse) for 30 days starting from D-7 pre-infection as the experimental group, or left untreated as the negative control group. Thin-stained blood smears were prepared from each mouse every alternate day, starting from D+3 post-infection and continued until the animal succumbed or until D+90 post-infection. Parasitaemias were determined using light microscope. Unstained blood smears were also prepared for direct observation under Phillips XL30 and Leo 1450VP scanning electron microscopes. All mice in the negative group succumbed to the infection with drastic increase of parasitaemias while all the positive control mice had minimal parasitaemias and cleared from the infection and survived for more than 100 days. On the other hand mice in the experimental group, experienced a prolonged suppressed parasitaemias which became patent later and caused death to all mice. Micrograph observations of parasites in the positive group showed that the parasites had adverse morphological changes due to berenil treatment which lead to cell destruction and death within 5 – 6 hours post-treatment. Likewise parasites in the experimental group too had undergone profound physical damages which caused cell death. This is the first report which shows that allicin actually induced cellular damage to haemoflagellate cells of T. evansi in vivo

Opportunistic insects associated with pig carrions in Malaysia

    No full text
Flies from the family Calliphoridae, Sarcophagidae and Muscidae are usually found on human cadavers or animal carcasses. However, there are many other families of Diptera and Coleoptera that were found associated with animal carcasses, which have not been reported in Malaysia. In this paper, we report dipterans from the family Micropezidae: Mimegralla albimana Doleschall, 1856, Neriidae: Telostylinus lineolatus (Wiedemann 1830); Sepsidae: Allosepsis indica (Wiedemann 1824), Ulidiidae: Physiphora sp. and a beetle (Coleoptera: Hydrophilidae: Sphaeridium sp.) as opportunist species feeding on oozing fluid during the decomposition process. They did not oviposit on the pig carcasses, therefore, their role in estimation of time of death is of little importance. However, they could provide clues such as locality and types of habitats of the crime scene

Penterjemahan kata kerja Bahasa Cina-Bahasa Melayu: satu analisis ketepatan makna padanan

    No full text
Makalah ini membincangkan kajian padanan kata kerja dalam terjemahan antologi cerpen bahasa Cina-bahasa Melayu. Antologi berkenaan berjudul Cerpen Pilihan Sastera Mahua III: Dalam Hujan Renyai. Kajian ini bertujuan meneliti ketepatan makna padanan kata kerja. Sebanyak sepuluh (10) kata kerja bahasa Cina dijadikan data kajian.

Sub acromial debridement surgery with acromioplasty for chronic shoulder pain - biomechanical challenges in physical rehabilitation

    No full text
Arthroscopic sub acromial debridement surgery with acromioplasty is one of the shoulder surgeries performed to treat chronic shoulder pain. This surgical procedure is usually indicated in sub acromial impingement syndrome of shoulder, degenerative rotator cuff tears, severe functional limitation of shoulder joint and often surgery was performed in cases where all the conservative management had failed in the treatment of chronic shoulder pain. Even though the patient would be referred for early rehabilitation, post operative management of this surgical condition is highly challenging. Movement of the shoulder joint is often related with scapulo-thoracic joint, acromio-clavicular joint and sternoclavicular joint and the shoulder movements are governed by various different muscular forces from these joints. Failure to understand this biomechanical complexity of shoulder joint during post operative rehabilitation results in failure of the surgical outcome and might cause severe functional limitation with recurrent shoulder pain. Often in clinical practice, greater emphasis is given to achieve and regain movements in shoulder joint at the expense of the joint stability. However, inadequate scapular stability might further predispose the shoulder joint to excessive loading and results in repetitive injuries leading to chronic shoulder pain. This might affect the surgical and clinical outcome of the acromioplasty and result in surgical failure. Hence, surgeons and clinicians need to understand the biomechanical contributions in the post operative rehabilitation of the shoulder joint. The present case report emphasises the biomechanical model of post operative rehabilitation of a patient who had arthroscopic sub acromial debridement with acromioplasty
