The Safe Passages Program as Approach to Combat the Heroin Epidemic: Case of Will County, IL

    No full text
This research analyzes the police departments’ unconventional approach to fighting heroin by offering treatment instead. Police departments implement a program, the Safe Passages, that allows an individual addicted to heroin to enter the police department without fear of arrest or questioning.https://opus.govst.edu/fac/1031/thumbnail.jp

Sentences Are Key: Helping School-Age Children and Adolescents Build Sentence Skills Needed for Real Language

    No full text
In this article, we present key concepts pointing to the importance of targeting complex sentences for school-age children and adolescents with developmental language disorders (DLD). Drawing on current treatment research, we argue that the sentence is a crucial but often neglected piece of the puzzle when it comes to understanding relationships between DLD and academic outcomes. We provide detailed suggestions for how clinicians can focus on complex sentence structures in natural academic contexts to bridge this gap. Method: Background information on sentence complexity is presented, along with a rationale for targeting complex sentences with school-age children and adolescents with DLD. Intervention methods from a variety of studies targeting multiclausal sentences are discussed in relation to current accounts of language learning and language processing models. We provide a robust catalog of suggested strategies for targeting sentence complexity in a manner that is aligned with research findings to date and integrated into real academic contexts.https://opus.govst.edu/fac/1004/thumbnail.jp

Improving the High School and College Classroom Experience for Learners with Refugee Status: Theory, Practice, and Change.

    Get PDF
Refugee populations are increasing globally, and children make up more than fifty percent of those displaced. Unique experiences that come with forced migration including fragmented education, trauma, family separation, grief, and adverse other effects can impact learning in the classroom for refugee students. Existing data indicates that schools lack sufficient protocols to meet the needs of students with refugee status who consistently face risks associated with ill-prepared learning environments, and therefore must rethink possibilities to address this. By adopting strategic decolonized approaches, educational leaders can create supportive environments which improve instructional methods and learning outcomes for these students as they navigate colonized educational institutions to attain academic achievement. This conceptual paper utilizes decolonizing educational theory grounded within the context of recognizing intersectionality to identify the challenges faced by refugee students in secondary education and their transitions to college. The authors offer theoretical and practical recommendations to school leaders in order to support students who are refugees towards their educational goals

    Event Management System

    Get PDF
The main aim of the event management system is to provide a platform for the users to view information about the events that took place in the past and the ones that are about to take place shortly. The application enables the user to view and book an ongoing or upcoming event in a particular locality. Users should register themselves to log into the account for online booking of tickets. The users can be administrators, event organizers, and customers. They can first log into the website and see through the information such as details about the events. The administrator can log in and update the information, delete any unwanted data, and arrange the information accordingly. The event organizer is the one who organizes events; they will upload event details. Customers can view events and they can book events. There is a secured mechanism is there for payments. This web application also gives some suggestions to the customers based on their previous bookings. Customers can view or send feedback on particular events. A Centralized database is used to store all the details of the admin, event organizer and customer details. Event Management System is developed using HTML, CSS, and Bootstrap as the front end, MySQL database as the backend and Java as a programming language. We will develop this web application using the Spring MVC framework. Tomcat server is used for deployment

COVID-19 Trends in India: Nationwide Insights & Maharashtra Focus

    Get PDF
This project presents a comprehensive analysis of COVID-19 data for Maharashtra, one of the most affected states in India. Utilizing advanced data processing techniques, the study focuses on understanding the progression of the pandemic through time series analysis and predictive modeling. Initially, the dataset, consisting of confirmed cases and deaths, is meticulously filtered to isolate data specific to Maharashtra. This subset is then transformed into NumPy arrays, facilitating the use of Python libraries for visualization and analysis. The research employs a variety of visualization techniques, including line plots and histograms, to portray the temporal trends and frequency distributions of COVID-19 cases and fatalities. Key to the analysis is the implementation of a Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) neural network, tailored to predict future trends based on historical data. The LSTM model is rigorously trained and tested, with its predictions plotted against actual data to assess its performance. Furthermore, the study delves into the day-to-day changes in the pandemic data by calculating first differences, providing insights into the daily fluctuations in cases and deaths. These differences are visually represented through scatter plots and histograms, elucidating the pattern of peaks and troughs indicative of the pandemic\u27s dynamics. The outcomes of the analysis are twofold: a detailed understanding of the COVID-19 trend in Maharashtra and a predictive model capable of forecasting future case and death counts. The model\u27s predictions, alongside the visualizations, offer critical insights into the progression and potential future trajectory of the pandemic. The findings of this study are significant for policymakers and healthcare authorities, aiding in strategizing effective responses to mitigate the impact of the pandemic in Maharashtra and potentially in similar regions

Cybersecurity for Cloud-Based Systems and Applications

    Get PDF
The rapid proliferation of cloud computing has transformed the way organizations manage and deploy their systems and applications. This paradigm shift, while offering numerous benefits such as scalability, cost efficiency, and accessibility, has also introduced a plethora of cybersecurity challenges. This thesis delves into the critical aspects of cybersecurity in the context of cloud-based systems and applications. It provides an in-depth analysis of the unique security considerations that arise from the shared responsibility model between cloud service providers and their customers. A comprehensive review of various cloud deployment models, including public, private, hybrid, and multi-cloud configurations, offers insights into how security considerations evolve across these landscapes. Additionally, thesis addresses compliance and regulatory issues that organizations must navigate, especially when dealing with sensitive data or industries subject to stringent requirements. Furthermore, the study research into emerging technologies such as containerization, serverless computing, and edge computing, and discusses their implications for cloud security. It also emphasizes the importance of DevSecOps practices, where security is integrated into the development and deployment pipeline, fostering a proactive security posture
