Because they recognized us : Triangulated perspectives of Syrian mothers\u27 resettlement experiences in the Eastern United States.
Get PDFResearch indicates that post-resettlement experiences can be particularly challenging for people with refugee status. Despite finding safety in and adjusting to their new home, former refugees have indicated that this time can be stressful and even traumatic. The current Syrian crisis has created the largest wave of refugees ever known, and Syrian women are amongst the most vulnerable. However, women’s needs and preferences are often not taken into consideration during the resettlement journey and when they are, there is no distinction between mothers and their childless counterparts. As social workers strive to empower the individual person within their environment, it is beneficial to understand the perspectives and preferences of Syrian mothers with refugee status regarding their post-resettlement experience. This qualitative study provides insight into factors affecting two Syrian mothers post-resettlement and triangulates the perspectives of these women with those of local resettlement workers and state agency workers to understand similarities and differences in their views. The outcomes provide overarching themes and recommendations for change in both policy and practice from the participants responses, as well as implications for future research

“I Feel Disconnected … but Do I?”: University Students’ Sense of Belonging in Time of Adversity

Using data from two public universities, we ask: How do students experience belonging in times of adversity? What factors affect their experience? “Feeling Disconnected” emerged as the major theme describing negative changes in belonging. The theme “Seeing Value in the Pandemic” emerged for students reporting positive changes. IoT Based Antenna Positioning System
No full textAntennas are fundamental to every form of wireless communication system. Antenna placement is crucial for successful wireless communication, according to satellites and transmitters. So, to enable the use of IoT for remote antenna deployment, this paper provides an IoT-based antenna placement solution. In this case, this paper examines the transmitted orientation of each antenna over the Internet of Things using a sensor-based system that includes a motor on each antenna. When a satellite\u27s or transmitting station\u27s orientation changes, it is necessary to reposition the antenna. The receiving antennas might be located in different parts of the world, at great distances from each other. So, extremely long-distance antenna placement is within the realm of possibility because of modern technology. Online visibility of antenna sites is available to the operator in charge of the IoT. The antenna monitoring GUI system is utilized by the IoT. With IoT-based antenna placement solution technology, the antenna\u27s orientation can be monitored and updated coordinates provided to the motor, allowing it to position the antenna correctly.https://opus.govst.edu/fac/1134/thumbnail.jp
What Drives Renewable Energy Consumption in Asia
No full textIn more recent years Asia has had the highest level of investment in renewables and the highest level of electricity generation from renewable sources. This paper analyzes the determinants of renewable energy consumption in Asia and the Pacific from 1996 to 2018. It explores the major challenges this region has faced in moving towards a more environmentally friendly generation and use of energy. We find that the renewable electricity output, GDP per capita, merchandise trade, the value added of the manufacturing sector and the income share held by the poorest population boost renewable electricity consumption. On the other hand, energy use per capita, access to electricity, energy imports, broad FDI, population growth and the income share held by the richest population lower consumption of electricity from renewable sources. Trade openness and being an island do not seem to have a statistically significant impact in our sample over the observed period.https://opus.govst.edu/fac/1018/thumbnail.jp
