The Impact of Extrinsic Motivation on Intrinsic Engagement in the Workplace

    No full text
This literature examines the association between extrinsic and intrinsic motivation in the workplace, more specifically how extrinsic motivators alter employees’ perception of job satisfaction. Autonomy, competence, and a sense of connection to work are necessary components for intrinsic motivation (Aljumah, 2023). Intrinsic motivation is often not utilized by employers due to established leadership styles. Ineffective leadership styles can cause a lack of intrinsic motivation and lead to a lack of engagement from employees (Zhang & Liu, 2021). To increase motivation, employers often engage in extrinsic rewards. Imposed extrinsic motivators can lead to decreased feelings of autonomy for employees. By investigating why extrinsic motivation causes a decrease in intrinsic motivation, employers can better understand the need for fulfilment in work and increase employee engagement

Lost In Time and Sacred Space

    No full text
This research project explores the parallels between fandom and religious experience, examining how media can serve as a spiritual outlet. Drawing upon scholarship that identifies similarities between fan relationships with pop culture and religious devotion, this study investigates the transmedia storytelling of the folk band Lord Huron. Scholars focused on fandoms have identified striking similarities between fans\u27 relationships with pop culture artifacts and religion. One extreme example of this would be the modern religion Scientology. For better or worse, scientology grew out of the science fiction stories of L. Ron Hubbard. For this project, I will present the findings from research on this topic, along with my personal experiences. The fandom I will focus on is the community that follows the band Lord Huron. Lord Huron is a folk band that creates stories through transmedia. These narratives are complemented by surreal themes that provoke thoughts related to existentialism. Drawing from this research, I will explain how media can provide a spiritual outlet for fans while creating a sacred space for self-discovery, and a better understanding of our place in the universe

Dr. Taylor “Tay” Rogers (Governors State University) presents a screening of their award-winning short film NOA: A Music Film, which is a companion piece to the contemporary folk album “NOA” (released by Tay Rogers in 2019). NOA is a highly collaborative project which includes movement, poetry, music, and improvisation. The film weaves together nine tracks off the album, forming a non-linear story that strives to understand how we can embrace our grief and losses for purposes of inner and outer transformation in a modern context. The film features seven on-screen independent Chicago-based artists, each of whom brings their own perspectives and unique knowledge to this multidisciplinary exploration of our emotional lives. With each musical turn, the film introduces the viewer to a new character, drawing on different modes of creative expression as a vessel for grief and a source of healing. This film brings viewers into an experience of deep feeling, infecting them with the same kind of emotional bravery exhibited in its storytelling

Exploring Interprofessional Collaborative Practice and Occupational Therapy’s Contribution

Interprofessional collaborative practice (IPCP) occurs when multiple healthcare professionals from various professional backgrounds work with clients, families, and communities to provide high-quality care. Occupational therapy (OT) therapeutically uses everyday occupations with persons, groups, or populations to enhance or enable participation. IPCP in healthcare involves collaboration with OTPs, PTs, SLPs, nurses, doctors, case managers, and others to ensure efficient, high-quality care to optimal outcomes. Evidence consistently supports IPCP’s role in improving patient outcomes and experiences and enhancing the quality of care. Participants report high proficiency (87.93%) in IPCP, indicating strong preparedness from collaboration across various healthcare settings. 100% of participants recognized OT as a vital member within an IPCP team, validating OT’s contribution to interdisciplinary healthcare teams 92.98% of participants noted better provider experiences through IPCP, which can lower turnover rates and improve patient outcomes. 94.7% of participants agreed that IPCP contributes to equitable healthcare by reducing gaps in individual care. 92.98% of participants believe that IPCP improves provider experience. Interprofessional education (IPE) promotes skill-sharing, shared values, and mutual respect among multi-disciplinary professionals

Beyond the Sitcom: An Examination of Grief in WandaVision

Television shows are often a medium people turn to for relaxation. However, on rare occasions, certain shows can take on deeper meaning and symbolism. WandaVision, though rooted in superhero media, is one such show that transcends its genre. While television often serves as an escape from reality, the context of the COVID-19 pandemic heightened the show\u27s nostalgic presentation, resonating with viewers on a more profound level. Throughout the series, viewers witness Wanda Maximoff\u27s journey through the stages of grief. As a result, many viewers can relate to her experience, finding their own sense of healing as they progress through these emotional stages alongside her. Additionally, the series demonstrated how superhero narratives can be used as a medium for processing emotional trauma, broadening the appeal of the genre and contributing to deeper conversations about mental health

Mentorship in Higher Education: Building Connections for Student Success

    No full text
Mentorship plays a vital role in higher education by fostering academic success, professional growth, and personal development. This presentation explores the significance of mentorship in academia, with a particular focus on faculty-advisor mentorship and its impact on student retention, engagement, and career readiness. Traditional mentorship models have evolved into structured, peer, and technology-enabled approaches, broadening access and support for students. Faculty mentors provide academic guidance, professional development, and emotional support, helping students navigate institutional challenges. However, mentorship programs often face institutional silos, limited resources, and lack of coordination. Implementing collaborative mentorship networks and culturally competent approaches can enhance inclusivity, particularly for underrepresented student populations. By ensuring equitable access to mentorship, institutions can foster a stronger sense of belonging, improve graduation rates, and contribute to long-term institutional success. Effective mentorship is a cornerstone of student achievement, shaping future leaders and strengthening higher education communities

“Griefworks”: Integrating Emotional Processing and Meaning-Making into Grief Therapy

    No full text
In recent years, we experienced a global pandemic, which forced us to face grief in myriad ways. To stress the magnitude of our collective experience in the past years, the scientific community decided it is time to introduce another diagnosis for grief (prolonged grief disorder) in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition, Text Revision (DSM-5-TR), specifically to address what is expected to be a common occurrence for years to come as a result of the loss, grief, and trauma we experienced during the COVID-19 years. With this ever-growing need in mind, we want to present a model of working with grief addressing two aspects of processing loss that we found paramount for successful outcomes in therapy: emotional processing and cognitive/meaning-making. To exemplify the two components of grief work, we created a composite case with aspects from different real cases we have worked with over the years.https://opus.govst.edu/fac/1118/thumbnail.jp

Intercropping Improves the Yield by Increasing Nutrient Metabolism Capacity and Crucial Microbial Abundance in Root of Camellia oleifera in Purple Soil

Intercropping system influences the endophytic microbial abundance, hormone balance, nutrient metabolism and yield, but the molecular mechanism of yield advantage in Camellia oleifera intercropping with peanut is not clear. In this study, the C. oleifera monoculture (CK) and C. oleifera-peanut intercropping (CP) treatments in purple soil were conducted, and the physicochemical properties, gene expressions, signal pathways and crucial microbial abundances were investigated to reveal the molecular mechanism of the yield advantage of intercropped C. oleifera. The results showed that the intercropping system increased in contents of pigment, carbohydrate, available nitrogen and phosphorus in leaf and root, as well as the abundances of Burkholderia, Ralstonia, Delftia, Pseudoalteromonas and Caulobacter, enhanced the relative expression levels of CoSPS, CoGBE, CoGlgP, CoGBSS/GlgA genes to promote sugar metabolism, decreased the relative expression levels of CoASA, CoTSB, CoPAI, CoTDC and CoCYP71A13 genes for inhibiting IAA biosynthesis and signal transduction, as well as microbial diversity, Fusarium, Albifimbria and Coniosporium abundances in root, ultimately improved the fruit yield of C. oleifera. These findings indicate that intercropping system improves the fruit yield by enhancing the nutrient metabolism capability and crucial microbial abundances in root of C. oleifera in purple soil.https://opus.govst.edu/fac/1022/thumbnail.jp
