Rethinking Apologetics as an Entry Strategy for Missions in Europe

    Get PDF
“Does apologetics play a role in modern-day missions at all?” When discussing this question with current missionaries, the answer became apparent: apologetics can be an effective tool to aid in missions, but it does not prove effective or even beneficial in every cultural context. This realization begs the following question: “In what kind of cultural context can apologetics help rather than hinder missions?” Through my research, I found that the post-modern, secular context of Europe provides a ripe harvest for apologetics in missions. Throughout my paper, I explore a broad biblical framework for apologetics in missions then expound specifically on the need for apologetics in European missions. A critical aspect of this thesis includes excerpts from the interviews I conducted with missionaries, cross-cultural strategists, and missiologists, as their insight ultimately enabled me to draw my conclusion that apologetics can be an effective entry strategy for European missions

The Link Between Intellectual Disability and Juvenile Delinquency

    Get PDF
The correlation between intellectual disability and juvenile delinquency is striking. Across the globe we see a higher number of offenders with an intellectual disability. Youths with intellectual disabilities may be more likely to engage in delinquent behavior. Early identification and intervention for intellectual disabilities, along with support for social and emotional development, could be crucial in reducing the likelihood of juvenile delinquency

Stressin\u27 Me Out: A Comparison of Stress Levels in College Student-Athletes and Non-Student-Athletes

    Get PDF
We investigated whether stress levels differed between college student-athletes and regular students. Participants filled out background information, such as age, ethnicity, classification, and student-athlete status. They then filled out a questionnaire to obtain a raw stress score intended to evaluate stress levels. Student-athletes and regular students showed little difference in stress levels. These results indicate that, although student-athletes and regular students share different demands in their everyday lives, both are impacted equally by stress. These results may impact the treatment and attention to the prevalence of stress for all collegiate students

Development of Specialty Histological Staining Methods for Zebrafish

    No full text
Danio rerio (zebrafish) have become a useful animal research model having a high similarity to humans with regards to their histological makeup. Standard protocols relating to the care and use of zebrafish were compiled and adapted for implementation for Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee review of the Ouachita Baptist University animal facility. These protocols include all facets of daily maintenance and care of the animals through euthanizing, emergency procedures, lab personnel training, and website development for public feedback regarding animal welfare. An additional part of this project was the optimizing and adaptation of histology protocols for zebrafish necropsy, tissue preparation and staining procedures for standard hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) staining as well as Masson’s trichrome staining. These procedures will be used to yield histological samples during undergraduate coursework in histology in the fall semester as well as support future research. The specific staining procedures, which use detailed protocols adapted from current best practices, will be used to visualize and distinguish various tissue types for examination and comparison in future research. Furthermore, zebrafish breeding protocols were optimized for studies concerning sex determination of zebrafish in the early embryonic stages of development

The Evaluation of Multiple Myeloma in Immune Competent and Immune Deficient Mice Using a SAC and Herbal Treatments with Genetic Analysis

    No full text
This research aimed to find which treatment worked better for mice with a complete immune system: the herbal treatment or SAC treatment when treating multiple myeloma. Previous studies have shown that the HE treatment improved life expectancy in mice with a compromised immune system. It is expected that the HE treatment will enhance the life expectancy of the mice at a greater rate than the PBS or SAC treatments in immune-competent mice. Unfortunately, this research was unable to be finished and given results will be quantified using cBioportal analysis of the genes DIS3, CCND1, COL1A1, and FGFR3
